and now to philadelphia and the ben franklin. we're not going to leave philadelphia out we'll see some rain as well. you see the cloud cover out ere now. it's dry, but noths going to stay that way for long. it's going to hammer some places and others won't see much at all. that's why we're going to look at this neighborhood by neighborhood with team coverage. drew smith is in long port, new jersey, which could catch the brunt of this. let's go to glenn "hurricane" schwartz with the latest on the rain already hitting the area. >> you saw that on the camera at cahe area so that we don't have to alert everyone for a generalized storm. so our first alert does not include lehigh valley. the area. this is until 3:00 saturday. heavy rain and flooding is

main threat. you can see over the last hour it's getting more and more grgr. the yellows and reds is the the heavier stuff so you can see it's starting to increase across central delaware and also near cape getting into a little bit heavier rain. you can also see delaware bay and out toward the southern of new jersey it's spreading up the coast. it's going to be a nasty friday night at the shore. some of the the heavier rain come into parts of chester county. even some of the area in the first alert will get periods of heavy rain. it's going to pile up the most in delaware and south jersey.

we're talking about multiple inches of rain. so we can't handle this. from philadelphia southward, look at that. a solid area of heavy rain early in the morning andn't cos hour after hour. we'll have moren on the amounts of rain to be expected coming up. more on the impact now the engineer shore may be one of the hardest hit areas. >> we know it's coming so we're just enjoying every last minute of dry weather that we have. i want to show you the ocean. thes have been churning up over the last hour as winds have been picking up. down in the end of here, we see some people hanging out on the beach. mostly heading inside after the dark clouds started to move in

delaware and south jersey. we haven. saying for days. it's going to get worse as we go later ob during the night tonight. you can see there's p it on the radar. with the radar being so close, we can get right into that neighborhood and see just where that heifer rain is going. . when you're close to the storm, you're not shooting up into the cloud. you're shooting into the rain that's coming down. so it's right near lynn boulevard and there's a lot of you that will be familiar with these city and names and street south. that's just the beginning. there's going to be a a lot more

of that to come. here we are in cape may. you can see some heavier rain moving in there. you didn't see the rain yet farther up to the coast. but that's just the beginning. we're seeing some of that heavier rain now in central delaware where the rainfall r rates have been a half inch to an inch per hour. there's that little pocket of heavier rain that we showed you from storm ranger 10. here's some lighter rain in chester county. that will be moving in later j started. look how heavy that rain is out in western pennsylvania. and expand the radar. to see where some of the heaviest rain is. so we have a front setting up in sosh parts of the area. that's going to focus the heaviest rain and the stormself virginia. so we have to wait for this low to get over here before we see the worst of the rain.'s dpoigo

that to happen. watch through the night. more and more of this red showing up as the low pressure center moves in, pulls in the moisture from the ocean and a l rain right in the middle of the night the early morning hours . heavy rain that doesn't ovee h saturated from the wet july, you ed up to a flood threat here. here's 9:00 a.m. we still have rain around. so ite awhile before delaware and south jersey clears out. it will be over with in nn sooner than it will be in delaware and south jersey. the amounts of rain we're still talking about multiple inches.2

corridor. the track is farther to the north. this it area expands north and could expand to the south. but the general trend, again, is for more rain to the south and less to the north. there's still a lot of rain for philly. and that's a day and night in allentown. not nearly as much rain as what we're talking about for the southern area. so saturday is a nasty day, but lehigh valley is nothing but sunshine. the jersey shore is in the worst shape. not only with the rain saturday they have wind. new r ck in 2014 a nurse returned to new jersey after caring for ebola patients. she was forced into quarantine the minute she arrived back. she tested negative and was allowed to head on to maine.

cloudy skies over that area right now. we have this first alert in effect. >> it does include the jersey. and our latest radar does show the rain over cape may itself and up toward wildwoodthat it's moving northward pretty slowly. you can see it as part of a large area of rain back across washington, d.c. and western pennsylvania and look how heavy that is. if any of that comes this way shs we're going to be seeing some flooding in parts of our area. it's mainly delaware and south jersey. so saturday is the worst day of the weekend. sunday we have improving conditions everywhere. and still not a great start to the day at the shore. but sunday afternoon should be better. and then. so we had extreme heat.
