trump took office. the house previously passed a health care bill, but the senate has not been able to pass its own legislation. and that includes last week's failed vote that would have started a debate over repealing and replacing parts of obamacare. the votes have generally fallen along the party line with republicans going for it and democrats going against. but tomorrow, we could see the first effort from both sides of the aisle. tonight, new details on the manhunt for a killer after police say he was involved in another shooting just minutes before. take a look. the shooting happened yesterday. but just before that, investigators say the gunman fired shots at a car in overbrook park. so he sent andria klein thomas there to speak to neighbors. >> reporter: the two scenes are only about 2 1/2 miles part. police say the suspect fled in a

gray volvo and now detectives hope that you take a good look at the picture and give them a call. neighborhood children innocently count the circles on the sidewalk that marked bullet shell caseness the 1700 block of 77th street. >> it was scary. >> reporter: saturday, neighbors confronted a man who police say looked like he was casing the neighborhood. when the neighbors asked what he was doing, the suspect started shooting into their car, then jumped into his car and took off. no one was injured. >> the community is kind of in an uproar because we're concerned. >> reporter: 45 minutes later, the suspect is suspected of murdering a man, gunned down in the doorway of a building. >> it's unfortunate it started here and how it ended is worse. >> reporter: video captured the

because they're like, what for? it's going rain all the time. >> anna says she has her fingers crossed and is hoping to make up the difference in august. more bad press for new jersey governor chris christie tonight, and he's not even in new jersey. governor christie was at the cubs/brewers came in milwaukee when someone took a video of him getting into another man's face. you can hear him calling the man a big shot. the man christie is yelling at was heckling him before that. flame s ripped through a hoe on canal road in levitt down. investigator are working to figure out how it started. no one was hurt. investigators are trying to figure out what caused this

deadly accident. the person driving lost control, struck a tree on swede road just before 6:00. police have not identified the driver. new at 11:00, a 13-year-old boy is in the hospital after he got trapped underneath a car. neighbors tell us that the boy was helping his grandfather fix the car when the jack that was holding it up gave out and the car fell on him. it anned in upper marion. emergency crews managed to free the boy. he was later taken by helicopter to the hospital. no word on his current condition. the search for a missing swimmer at point pleasant beach is on hold until the morning. the coast guard says a woman was swimming a friend. the friend told police they got caught in high surf. the national weather service issued an alert today for rip currents. the united states is flexing its military muscle in a show of

force against north korea. the air force dispatched two b-1 bombers over the korean peninsula over this weekend. this was in direct response to consecutive missile tests from north korea. the jets returned to andersen air force base in guam. during a visit to estonia, the vice president called out north korea for what he termed continued provocations. >> the president of the united states is leading a coalition of nations to bring pressure to bear until that time that north korea will permanently abandon its nuclear and ballistic missile program. >> military analysts say the kind of missile north korea launched friday could hit los angeles or chicago. meanwhile, the department of defense says it successfully tested the terminal high altitude area missile defense system. an air force b-17 launched the

missile over the pacific ocean. the missile defense agency says this is the 15th successful intercept in 15 tests. a new sheriff comes to the white house tomorrow as general john kelly takes over as chief of staff. this shows president trump and kelly having a saturday night dinner at trump's washington, d.c. hotel. republicans say they hope kelly will bring stability to the west wing and help the president get his agenda back on track. >> i think he will bring some order and discipline to the west wing. >> what we need now from a chief of staff is ensuring that everybody who works in the white house is on the president's agenda. >> the president was unhappy with former chief of staff reince priebus when he couldn't get the gop to deliver on health care. but he tweeted today, don't give

in north carolina, thousands of tourists have been forced to change vacation plans after the power was cut to a pair of popular islands. the electricity in the outer banks went out thursday. and now tourists are leave big the ferry load and carload. construction crews working on a new bridge damaged all three of the cables providing power to the two islands. >> we slept in the parking lot last night in the camper, waiting to get on the 7:00 ferry this morning. >> officials say they were working to restore the power, but it's not clear when the visitors will be allowed to return.

tonight, a new power play from vladamir putin. the russian president is expelling more than 700 american diplomats from his country. in an interview, putin says the move is a direct response to congress approving new sanctions against russia. congress passed the sanctions to punish russia for interference in the 2016 election and aggression toward its neighbors. sit a major shift in the relationship between the u.s. and russia, with just three weeks ago at the g20 summit seemed to be warming. >> i think you have to go deep into the cold war to remember a time that we were in this level of confrontation with russia or the soviet union. certainly even the end of the cold war was a friendlier time than we are today. >> the political drama around the investigation into the trump team and reports of collusion with russia is complicating tensions. however, putin said that did not play into his decision.

an explosion in venezuela injured police officers as clashes broke out today during today's voting. the officers were riding motorcycles on a street in caracas when the blast went off. the -- more than 115 people have been killed in protests there. if you've ever felt cramped on an airplane, consider this a win. a consumer group is challenging the faa on small seats, saying it's not only a comfort issue, but a safety concern. and an appeals court agrees with it. one of the judges called it the kras of the incredible shrinking airline seats. small seats and rows that are too close together can slow down emergency evacuations. the three-judge panel says the faa needs to come up with a better response for the safety

nascar fans packed the raceways today for dale earnhardt, jr.'s last professional race at the triple triangle. he's retiring at the end of the season. at the finish line, a sign was posted saying "thanks, dale jr." he finished second to last at the race. the boys from upper providence out of montgomery county are the new state little league champions after taking down north allegheny. this is video of the final out of the game. the winner of the state championship game will represent the mid-atlantic region in the little league world series. congratulations. and here's danny with your sports.

be on unit cohesion. >> reporter: according to the report, researchers found transgender people serving in the military would have a minimal impact on health care costs and military readiness. >> what rand estimated is that there are few transgender people in the military. >> reporter: rand put the number at about 2500 out of 1.3 million active service members. 800,000 people serve in the reserves, about 1500 are transgender. the report points out not all of them would be seeking transgender related health care. >> so the actual costs would be somewhere between $2.4 million and $8.8 million, which is a small percentage of the $6 billion that the military spends for health care services for active members in fiscal year 2014. >> that was erin coleman reporting. next on "nbc 10 news," a deadly ride. we have an update on the state fair where a ride fell apart

six people were hurt after this van slammed into a crowd of people in los angeles at a busy intersection. four people were taken to the hospital, the other two had minor injuries. the driver stayed at the scene. police are trying to figure out whether the crash was intentional or accidental. most rides at the ohio state fair are now up and running following wednesday's deadly accident on the so-called fireball ride. today resembled a more typical day at the fair. today, the state agriculture department said it reinspected 71 rides and cleared them to reopen. but the fireball ride will remain closed as the investigation continues to figure out what went wrong. on wednesday, all the rides were shut down when the fireball broke apart in mid-air, killing an 18-year-old military recruit.
