gait.margate. beach goers have been trudging through stand iing water. i'm keith jones. >> and i'm erin coleman. high levels of bacteria has been found in that water. you're looking at ted greenberg live for us in margate. some are calling this a health hazard. >> reporter: and this is what people are finding at several beach entrances. tonight they are closed off with yellow caution tape in sections where that water is still ponding on the beach. and even more beaches will soon be off limits. on this first day of august, entrances to more than a half dozen margate beaches shut down. >> it's pretty bad. >> including the one they are renting for the month starting today. >> it's certainly disappointing

in the timing. >> reporter: the city closing off areas from ponds of standing water remain between street ends and newly constructed dunes. >> it is hard to believe. >> city leaders say preliminary test results reveal elevated levels of bacteria in the water which have been slow to drain after 5 inches of rain fell over the weekend. >> as a precaution, we shut access to people are not walking through those areas. >> contractors for the u.s. army core of engineers began. pumping the water today. ing additional concerns about health and safety. as a result, starting tomorrow, every margate beach from the vent nor line will be closeor l. >> there's some consequences that lock like a nightmare for the city.

>> in the meantime, the army corps says its experts are considering making changes to how the beach protection project is designed. a project bitterly opposed by many here in the first place. >> i'm not an expert, but i will tell you we can see it's behind me. >> additional pumps will be arriving tomorrow. it's the same day city commissioners will hold a special meeting on whether to hire a lawyer to potentially take legal action against the new jersey dep and army corps of engineers. a tip from a witness is helping police close in on a dangerous fugitive wanted for a murder on the main line. today police announced the man in this surveillance picture is 24-year-old derek rollins. he's wanted for two separate shoot where one person was killed.

police say they came up empty. >> we think he still has that gun. that's what concerns us so much about this individual. he fired 17 shots at two individuals over nothing. and it speaks for itself. >> one of the victims was killed saturday night. police believe rollins is hiding somewhere in philadelphia, but say he has contacts outside of the state. it you see him, don't approach him, police say. call climbing about 500 feet up philadelphia city hall. the city calls it concerning, dangerous and illegal. jacqueline london joins us live in the breaking news center. police just gave an update.

what have learned. >> police are exploring possible trespassing charges for this suspect. police say this owe was posted on july 30th. tfts titit was titled exploring with carson. you can see the person climbing a at the top of city hall. police are working to determine when the video was shot. at this point they aren't even sure if the act was illegal. this is video of that scaffolding. you can see how dangerous it can be. especially since it's unclear if the climb er had a safety harnes on. >> it's very dangerous. i can't b stress that enough. >>. >> police say city hall was already under a security check from homeland security and video will evaluate any potential safety weaknesses. jacqueline london, nbc 10 news.

it was a day in bethlehem splashing around at memorial pool. so nice baseball weather in delaware. a look at the stadium. they play in about 90 minutes time. it's staying hot for awhile. >> that's exactly right. we're looking at those typical summer temperatures and conditions. humidity is going to kick back up a bit and seeing the afternoon thunderstorms in the forecast day after day. so look at our temperatures roigt now. e we made it up to 91 degrees in philadelphia. that's our high so far today. 88 in vineland and wilmington. 86 for coatesville. 87 a at the airport.

check out the water temperature. 79 degrees, feeling nice for those at the shore. we look at the radar and satellite view, this is different than yesterday. we got some action on the map this time. not a lot of cloud coverage spotty clouds across the region. and as expected some ice litted showers and thunderstorms. most are along the northern edge of the viewing. they are not moving much as they are just sticking along the northern edge. we are seeing a little action in the lehigh valley and the poconos as well. as we get into tomorrow, it may be more widespread across the area. coming up in a few minutes, we're going to track out the storms and talk more about the heat. right now, a rally to try to save the nation's first historically black college. >> the group heeding cheney's call, the delaware county school is facing an uncertain future

attorney general who criticized the epa for needing it needs more information before implementing the new smog standards. just say no, that's what philadelphia officials want the state supreme court to say about repealing the city's soda tax. the beverage industry wants the high court to overturn the city's tax on sugary drinks arguing it violates the state's constitution. the city calls the action a needless delay that will harm early education programs funded by revenue to pass the legal challenges to stop the tax that failed take a look at this video that shows a worker at the grocery store in north philadelphia being terrorized by a man with a knife demanding money. it happened on july 23rd. when the employee refused, the man ran off. the suspect later returned with two men and a woman who ransacked the store. if you know who they are, call police. meanwhile in center city, video shows several people crawling into the restaurant on south

tonight the confrontation between governor chris christie and a baseball fan could turn into a full fledged fight. >> he posted a lengthy facebook statement with his version of the story. he says an amateur mixed marshal arts group has already agreed to put on an event between him and christ christie. he says it could be mma, boxing or even grek koe roman style wrestling. crist e tee confronted him during a baseball game over the weekend after he was heckled

calling joseph a big shot. . pay back for new jerseyers. governor christie signed a bill that reimburses state employees. they will get pay for those in early july. the state treasury says they will be reimbursed as quickly as possible. governor christie was publicly ridiculed after he was caught on a beach that was closed to the public due to the shutdown. yesterday the state assembly approved a bill to close the governor's mansion on that beach during a shutdown. another keeps state parks open during a shutdown. the health commissioner degrees with the recommendation to declare a national emergency over opioid abuse. the recommendation comes from a commission created by the president and headed by governor chris christie. . it just released a report that asks the president to declare a national emergency and also makes recommendations like getting all law enforcement to carry narcan and mandate

look at cape may point. you're a little inland and there you go with 90 degrees. wood bien at 90 degrees feeling the warmth across the entire region. it's the first day of august. let's look at the temperatures in our philadelphia neighborhoods. we have 90s. 91 at the airport. that's the high for today. we're at 91 in parkwood. these 90s will hold tight for the next couple of days. and we have the humidity kind of pushing upwards as well. when you have the two together, that's when you start to see the storms firing off. so this is the first day of several day period of it. today, most of the action is going to drops. s most of us not seeing anything but a few scattered clouds. let's focus on the northern edge. not a ton to track here, but we

are looking developed to the east of allentown and there's some rain to the south. if you're in the lehigh value e lee, don't be surprised by a a little shower moving through. most of this isn't going to be long lasting. it's stuck in the northern edge. you might see a repeat. that said 90 days so far. . last year it was 24 days. last year we had 1790 degree days in august. doesn't look like we'll see quite as many. we're starting off on the hot side. tomorrow, 90s still. and we're looking at scattered thunderstorms across the region. 9 in long port. and some low to mid-80s along the jersey shore.

it's hot out there. you can see from the mixture overhead, not as clear. look at the valley. now reporting some thunderstorms rolling across the area. >> a heavy downpour with lightning. you go to the west and we have this cluster of storms that's popped up over the northern edge of berks county. these aren't falling south, they are moufing to the southeast. so not a lot of this is going to make it much more south than where it currently is. take a look at philadelphia and chester and delaware county. you see we have isolated showers as well that have popped up across the area. when we do wide picture, there are the thunderstorms mostly along the northern and western elk of our viewing area. tomorrow more likely that many

of us will see the thunderstorms. popping overhead. we'll talk more about that in our forecast in just a few minutes. we're going to turn to breaking news from the capital. the senate has overwhelmingly voted to confirm christopher ray as the next fbi director. 92 votes to 5. it comes less than three months after president trump fired james comey from the position. ray is a former high ranking official in president bush's justice department. e he also represents new jersey governor chris christie in the bridgegate scandal. president trump's proposal to ban transgender people from the military will not impact the care they receive from the department of veteran affairs. in washington va secretary told us he was not made aware of the president's decision ahead of time. he says he heard from concerned veterans since and told them the va has support that is unwavering. >> we are there for a lifetime of commitment. that commitment will not change.

thunderstorms that have popped up over the northern edge of the viewing area. now this would be something we be concerned about if it was dropping south, but it's not. it's stuck where it is. it keeps regenerating over the same area. it means if you're in the valley berks county, you may run into your share of a heavier period of rain. you see just to the north, a little thunderstorm is now developed. by chestnut hill right on through the poconos, some of those storms keep lingering in the same spot. a flood advisory in the edge of the viewing area. because these cells may produce heavy rain to wash out a low lying roadway. if you look farther south, almost all of the viewing area has clouds an isolated shower in philadelphia, westchester and even into burlington county a spot cell that's pop developed.

not much to attract most of the area except for the lehigh valley and berks county. you see well to our west in d.c. and baltimore, they have thunderstorm action. we're able to track the sea breeze with the radar. you can see the breeze is moving now. if this makes it all the way north here to parts of the lehigh value low, storms may gather. that's something we'll be watching over the next several hours. let's take a look at the afternoon highs. the heat of today is not going anywhere. today we hit a high of 91. tomorrow looking a at a high of 90 in philadelphia. same in the suburbs. upper 80s in delaware. the lehigh valley at 88. so all of us still hot. a little humid with the moist conditions that have moved in. we know what happens when we have higher humidity and hot temperatures. we see the storms in the afternoon. we're going to have the potential as we go into your wednesday afternoon. feels like conditions yesterday, beautiful. today, not bad. a a little more uncomfortable. you noticed the humidity have picked up a notch.
