immigrants in half. >> announcer: nbc 10 news starts now. right now at 11:00, our first look at the day-care owner accused of sexually abusing children he was supposed to protect. tonight parents are calling it a sickening betrayal of trust. i'm jacqueline london. >> i'm jim rosenfield. philadelphia police say the victims were just 5 years old. nbc 10's drew smith is joining us outside the day-care in bella vista. drew, the day-care is still operating? >> reporter: that's right, jim. we're told investigators told the owner, duncan round, to stay away. tonight he's in jail, and we've been checking in with neighbors and people who know him. they say while it's a disturbing accusation, they're not totally surprised. parents went into sprouts preschool to pick up their kids

tonight knowing the owner, duncan round, is not locked up. >> this is beyond repair. i don't care what they do, i will any send my kids there. >> reporter: the investigation began with a complaint to the city. >> the children weren't acting right. >> reporter: investigators say round sexually assaulted two 5-year-olds, a boy and girl, inside the day-care. police say they found physical evidence to support that. >> he seemed like a nice guy but who knows? >> reporter: some parents defended the 53-year-old, suggesting he's innocent. >> duncan is a great guy, he loves kids, this is a great place, you feel like family here. this is all just a shame. >> reporter: neighbors remember when he lived here in queens village. one of his former employees told us she chose to quit after feeling uncomfortable. another mother told us she was creeped out by his behavior during a tour of the building. >> he didn't have a good reputation in the neighborhood. >> reporter: the business remains open while round is in jail. >> parents will probably pull

their kids out and look for other places. >> reporter: police are worried there could be more victims out there. police are asking parents to have a talk with their children if they were enrolled in this day-care. drew smith, nbc 10 news. breaking news along kelly drive. right now both directions are shut down because of a deadly crash. a motorcyclist collided with a car near brewery drive. the man on the bike died. police tell us the driver of the car made an illegal left hand turn and hit that motorcycle. also tonight, new video shows the damage from today's summer storms. nbc 10 in wilmington where three trees came down on the same street. several cars and a home on atkins avenue were all hit. the cleanup will cost thousands of dollars. the roads have dried out of after today's storms. this is a live look at i-95 right now. but it was a much different scene earlier today when all that rain caused flooding on i-95 near broad street and other corrodes across the area.

it's the season for summer storms. >> yes, it is. the heat and humidity will stick around. first alert meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with an update on your neighborhood forecast. >> jim, things have quieted down this evening. i don't think we'll get anywhere near the amount or intensity of the storms tomorrow like we did today. we still have some leftover rain in parts of south jersey, delaware bay, from what fell earlier. and there's a new area line in central pennsylvania moving in this direction. futurecast does show that it has a potential to hold together during the middle of the night, so it could be getting some briefly heavy rain. but by the morning rush, it's pretty much gone. tomorrow morning looks dry. and then in the afternoon, remember by noontime today, there were showers and storms all over the place already. not much tomorrow, just some isolated storms across parts of the area, the jersey shore looks

like it's going to be in fine shape. the temperatures getting knocked down by all the rain, in the 60s in the suburbs, not exactly a warm and humid night. but it will be heating up during the day. it will feel like it's in the low 90s. and again, just isolated storms, much less activity than today. we'll see how the weekend is shaping up, coming up. for the second straight day, a police presence at a popular north town park where a man sexually assaulted a jogger. late this afternoon police offered up a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the attacker. police say the man held a gun to a 19-year-old woman and sexually assaulted her at north town farm park yesterday morning. the victim says the man wore a mask and grabbed her from behind. possible witnesses could hold the key to helping police solve a murder on the main line. today haverford township released pictures of three people they would like to talk

to, who may have witnessed the shooting of a man. police continue to look for suspect derek rollins on your screen right there, suspected of killing john lee in haverford and opening fire into a crowd hours earlier in overbrook park. police say lee had just picked up food and was on his way back to his apartment when rollins shot and killed him. new developments tonight on what many believe is a dune disaster. crews pumped large ponds of bacteria-filled standing water toward the ocean. the stretches in between the dunes were turned into ponds after heavy rain fell over the weekend. commissioners voted to seek a court order to halt the half-finished product. >> they have to stop, figure out what went wrong, what's wrong with the engineering, when they correct it, move on. >> nbc 10 reached out to the new jersey department of environmental protection. but we have yet to hear back. meanwhile, a spokesman for the u.s. army corps of engineers says the agency is making

changes to the way the beach project is designed. so how would you like to be in the blast zone? that's the reality for neighbors in chester and delaware counties, where a pipeline is being built by their homes, churches, and schools. complaints have flooded in ever since construction began on sunoco's mariner east ii pipeline. the state has put the construction on hold for now. as nbc 10's brandon hudson shows us, the problems haven't stopped. >> reporter: at this car repair shop in exton, blink and you'll miss clear water turning brown. for detailing cars, it's bad for business. >> this is our livelihood. we need clean water. >> reporter: he claims the water contaminated the well water they used. here is how the water looked after it sat in a bucket over the weekend. >> it actually stains the bucket. >> reporter: although the drilling has been brought to a halt for now, the problems keep

flowing. garrison told us sunoco has been considerate, offering storage tanks with clean water. >> we have 300 gallons left, which is about a day. >> reporter: these guys aren't the only ones looking for answers. these mothers are too. >> our children are asking tough questions, like mommy, what's in that pipeline, and mommy, are you going to keep us safe. >> reporter: the concern is neighborhoods like this one in west chester. this road gets a lot of traffic and you're in a blast zone which clues a handful of homes here and a church and school across the street. chester county leaders met with an auditorium in lineville middle school tonight, up with several schools along the blast zone shown in this map. obligations assured the crowds the odds of an incident are low. meanwhile a company republican tells nbc 10 the company will build a pipeline. >> as mothers we care deeply

[ bell ringing ] >> plenty of clean to cheer after the dow closed above 22,000 today for the first time ever. today was actually the sixth straight day the dow closed at a record high. the end of the week will be key for market momentum when the monthly jobs report is released. critics up in arms tonight as president trump throws his support behind a plan that would splash legal immigration by half over a decade. the plan introduced by gop senators tom cotton and david purdue would consider education, the ability to speak english, and high paying job offers when granting visas. the goal is to limit entry of low skilled workers. the plan is already facing fierce pushback on capitol hill.

>> the biggest flaw in that proposal is the notion that there are long lines of americans waiting to pick fruit and work hospitals. >> the proposal will not go anywhere because it would devastate the economy. >> the bill would limit the number of annual refugee admissions. tonight, a west philadelphia community came together to try to get drugs off the street. people living on north holly street between lan cast err avenue and north 42nd street say something has to be done about the growing drug problem. they say there is a ton of drug activity up and down the block at night. it's so bad, seniors and children don't even want to sit outside. an annual initiative called operation college health put smiles on people's faces in south florida. popular radio personality patty jackson and mayor kenney joined unity in the community and handed out prize scholarships. two students received $500 scholarships. there was another surprise. the mayor says he is doubling those scholarships.

together. >> norman long was also charged with concealing evidence after officers found bloody paper towels in the trash can. the couple had been married for 15 years. it started as a "lyft" home. but it ended with kidnapping and robbery according to two women. police in two cities are looking for the man behind the wheel. nbc 10's keith jones has more. >> reporter: jim, the woman was robbed behind me, thrown out of the car, she ran into the 7-eleven. a worker there lent her his cellphone so she could call 911. the alleged lyft driver peeled off. >> it could happen to a man, it could happen to a woman. you never know who is driving you. >> reporter: that's why this case sets off alarms. the two sisters left a nightclub in center city at 3:00 a.m., using a lyft app. the driver picks them up. >> he says he needs to take his

medication, could she go out and get a bottle of water. >> reporter: the 21-year-old gets out and enters this sunoco in upper darby. minutes later -- >> the vehicle is gone, the driver is gone, her sister is gone. >> reporter: this woman was working inside. >> she said, call the police, right away. >> reporter: for two hours, police said the sister was missing, in the car with the lyft driver. near this 7-eleven, the driver allegedly throws her out of the car unharmed. >> in this neighborhood, i would not be surprised. anything can happen in this neighborhood. >> reporter: lyft say there doesn't appear to be a ride matching the time, location, or vehicle description in this case, but they're working with law enforcement who urge riders to use caution. >> it would be pretty foolish for anybody who is registered like that to do something like that, because they have a record already on the computer. >> reporter: philadelphia and upper darby police are working together on this one.

they're investigating, looking for a four-door vehicle, black in color, possibly a nissan. as for the driver himself, a very vague description here, folks, 25 to 30 years old, with an accent. if you know anything about the case, call police. live in olney, keith jones, nbc 10 news. new details now on that recall involving certain protective cases for your iphone. we're looking at some of the burns suffered by customers using that case. you can see the red bruises that several people reported on social media. the company has retailed more than 200,000 liquid glitter cases. the new jersey-based company says the glitter can leak, causing skin irritation and buns. 24 people have been injured so far. new details on wedding dreams dashed when a bridal company went bankrupt. alfred angelo is telling customers the company will not be cleating any more orders.

the bridal store, with locations across the country and here in the delaware valley, closed without warning last month. the company delivered some dresses but now says it will be impossible to fulfill all those orders. also tonight, hired on the spot. >> hundreds of people now work for amazon after today's job fair in mercer county. long lines wrapped around the block this morning, outside amazon's robbinsville warehouse. 20,000 people applied today. amazon planned to hire 50,000 employees nationwide and almost 2,000 in new jersey. back to our first alert weather. once the rain stopped, it was a pretty nice night for a treat in springfield township, these people enjoying ice cream outside crave creamery. can i have one? we'll be dodging storms this week. >> but we'll have a drier and cooler weekend. glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with your forecast.

>> we won't be seeing the heat and humidity like we saw today. it was building up until 11:00 this morning, and all of a sudden, there come the storms along the i-95 corridor, they were all over the place and really, really heavy. now we're left with a few showers in central pennsylvania. the amounts of rain, pretty impressive. the areas in yellow, at least an inch. the red areas, generally three inches. we saw some of that in chester county and northern newcastle county, gloucester county. this was from last night and today, in parts of philadelphia. burlington county. just scattered all over the  place. and we had damage reports and hail reports all over the place. many of them were around the philadelphia area, including quarter size hail. some trees down, you saw some of those pictures. up in the lehigh valley, you had that as well. this is the new line that's approaching harrisburg.

and it could be into our area in a couple of hours, in the middle of the night, but gone by the morning rush. then we're left with the heat and humidity building up tomorrow. we're not going to have the trigger that we had today. and so i think the storms will develop later. there won't be as many of them. but there will be some of them scattered around and you can get downpours with any one of those storms. there they are into the afternoon. you notice this jersey shore, southern delaware, are dry in this pattern. and then on friday, we start off dry again. the best chance of any showers on friday are to the north and west. if there's less activity friday than thursday, less activity thursday than what we saw today. and then we get to saturday. some showers early. then you say goodbye, because drier air is coming in for the rest of the weekend.
