impose tough new sanctions and president trump spoke with south korea's president discussing the grave danger posed by north korea. janice, what more can you tell us about the situation in north korea? >> reporter: trump spoke with the president of south korea, both agreeing there needs to be maximum pressure on north korea. this is the message that secretary of state rex tillerson has been carrying at the asean forum in the philippines, the fact that in order for talks to start, the tests have to stop. mr. tillerson called the vote on saturday at the u.n. a good outcome. here's more of what he had to say. >> we hope, again, that this ultimately will result in north korea coming to the conclusion to choose a different pathway, and when the conditions are right, that we can sit and have a dialogue around the future of

north korea so that they feel secure and prosper economically. >> reporter: all eyes, of course, have been on china. the u.s. expecting china to use its influence with north korea in order to have pyongyang stop its weapons testing. china's foreign minister meeting directly with north korea's foreign minister. there is about $1 billion in trade at stake, and china is saying the north must be punished for those missile tests last month. back to you. >> china, a linchpin in this situation. janice, thank you so much. president trump wakes up in his new jersey club this morning, in the middle of what aides are calling a 17-day working vacation, as the white house gets a long planned renovation. while far from d.c., the

"the new york times" quoting an aide saying that they want to be prepared to run in case there is an opening in 2020. and it goes on to say that mr. pence is laying the ground work for that. his response, he says that his entire team will focus on advancing the president's agenda. he laughable and absurd. speaking of the president, and the president's agenda, one thing not on it, that russia investigation. but now there are reports that

the special counsel on the russia case has asked the white house for documents related to former national security adviser mike flynn. how is the president feeling about this latest revelation and also the investigation in general? here's kellyanne conway talking about whether or not the president wants to fire robert mueller. >> the president has not even discussed that. the president is not discussing firing bob mueller. >> will he commit to not fire him? >> he's cooperating -- he's not discussed firing bob mueller. >> that's not what i'm asking. >> well, hold on, i'm not the president's lawyer here, but i will tell you, he's not discussing that. >> reporter: of course, we now know there are multiple grand juries involved in that investigation. >> tracy, thanks. tulsa, oklahoma is still cleaning up this morning following a massive damage from a rare late-summer ef-2 tornado.

it's the first august twister in tulsa since the late '50s. the winds ripped roofs off homes and businesses. officials say the tornado struck so suddenly, there was no time for warnings. >> it just happen today quickly. it was just all of a sudden it's there. we didn't have any ramp-up time. >> no reports of deathed relating to the storm. about 3500 peopleai power. authorities are asking residents to stay away from the hard hit downtown area. the fbi and u.s. marshals have joined local authorities in the man hunt for an escaped prisoner from ohio on the run since friday. the paulding county sheriff's office says 32-year-old brandon poul overpowered a deputy and took the deputy's gun. powell, arrested on rape

allegations, is considered armed and dangerous. the u.s. marshals are offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to his capture. chicago is set to make a trail blazing decision later today, going head to head with the president, suing the administration, after president trump and his justice department threatened so called sanctuary cities. it's a move that could have far-reaching implications. for now, we go to ron allen. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. on one side of this is the trump administration determined to crack down on illegal immigrants. but cities like chicago that want to build relationships to help fight crime. chicago plans to sue the federal government, because the justice department said it will noo cis that do not cooperate to arrest and deport people in the country illegally.

>> we intend to use all the lawful authority we have to make sure that our state and local officials who are so important to law enforcement are in sync with the federal government. >> reporter: the feds want access to local prisons to question people in custody about their citizenship status. chicago, where gun violence plagues some neighborhoods, wants more help from the federal government, not less. mayor rahm emanuel call the threat to block funds blake mail. >> chicago will not let our police officers become political pawns in a debate. chicago will not let our residents have their fundamental rights isolated and violated. >> reporter: the mayor said the city will be welcoming to immigrants. but president trump's promise to crack down on illegal immigration is one reason why he's in the white house.

♪ is preparing for a courtroom showdown in denver today. she says david mueller groped her before a concert in 2013. mueller is suing swift for $3 million in damages, claiming her false accusations caused him to lose his job. swift is counter suing for assault and battery. court documents say it is unlikely either side will settle. severe turbulence injured ten people on a flight from greece to philadelphia over the weekend. the plane was over the atlantic, just 30 minutes away from landing, when it was rocked by the turn lansz. it was so violent, drinks splattered onto the ceiling. >> i never experienced anything like it before.

the thought i had was when a plane goes down, this is what it feels like. >> the injured include three passengers and seven crew members. they were hospitalized after the flight landed. american airlines says the fasten seat belt sign was on during the incident. now to a bre of milan where police arrested a man who kidna a a tried to sell the dark web. matt bradley has the details. what do we know about what happened to this young woman, matt? >> reporter: it's a truly sorted story. she was lured to a fake photo shoot in milan, attacked, drugged, bound and gagged, and transported in the trunk of a car to an italian village. her captors, two men, held her for $300,000 ransom. but the story gets stranger. cleary ailing, she was released six days after her kidnapping, only after the kidnappers

discovered she had had a 2-year-old child. so all of this is according to italian police. so why the sudden sympathy from the kidnappers? according to her, her abductos,s called them several the black death and their own code of conduct prevented them from kidnapping mothers. but they said they could deliver her anywhere for a price. one person has been arrested and police are looking for suspects. so we haven't heard the end of this frightening and bizarre story. >> unbelievably frightening. darren daulton has tragically passed away after his battle with brain cancer. the three-time all-star plaord s and voted on to their wall of fame in 2010. friends and fans are reacting on
