into a police station parking lot. the delaware county man alle allegedly told police he was hammered and went to the police department for a safe place to pull over. after driving over the curb and slamming into the security gate officers met the driver outside and arrested him. i'm erin coleman. >> and i'm rosemary connors. upper darby police say the suspect was too drunk to stand up and perform field sobriety tests. according to investigators he told officers he had a few drinks in trenton and drove to philadelphia where e he briefly stopped and had a few more drinks. from philly he went to upper darby. his entire route was 47 miles. steven fisher spoke to police about the suspect's sobering moment. >> 53 years of experience i have never had anybody drive into a police station. this is video on wednesday morning about 4:00 a.m. from the

upper darby police station. rides up on the curb and brushes the entry gate. the driver parks around back, officers watch this unfold, but they couldn't believe what they found. >> he told police he had 12 to 14 beers. and he was whacked out. he was in ineeb reeuated. >> the driver 45 told police he was looking for a safe place after admitting he had been drinking. he stopped for drinks in new jersey and then philadelphia before ending up at their back-door. >> you can smell the alcohol, efs unsteady getting out of the car. he tried to do the field sobriety test but hen couldn't stand up. >> it's crazy that they pulled into the police station. >> while most try to run from the cops, he went right to them. his car is now impounded but he did make bail. people say they are glad he ended up where he did. >> they felt the guilt and they

were like i'm in trouble. just go right to the station. maybe he would have gotten into a car accident instead of going to the police station. e he could have hurt somebody. >> reporter: i did speak with him today. he told e me he is embarrassed and. can't believe he did what he did. he was going to be getting help, but also we found out he's had trouble with this in the past. he told me he looks to get better and hopes others will learn from his mistakes. steven fisher, nbc 10 news. more breaking news. president trump issuing a warning for north korea concerning its development of nuclear weapons. >> if north korea does anything this terms of thinking about attack of anybody that we love or we represent or our allies or us, they can be very, very nervous. i'll tell you what. they should be very nervous. things will happen to them like

they never thought possible. >> the president issued that warning while he was addressing reporters at his golf club in north jersey just before a security broefing with top advisers. he said the warning he had for north korea earlier in the week may not have been strong enough. you may remember on tuesday the president warned if north korea made anymore threats against the u.s., the north would be met with fire and fury. instead north korea announced a detailed plan today to launch a barrage of missiles toward guam. the island is a u.s.er territory in the western pacific ocean. they are preparing to fire four missiles over japan and into. the waters surrounding guam. if carried out, this would be north korea's most provocative missile launch to date. others are not intimidated. >> i feel that the military presence on guam is safer for

us. i think they are here to protect the island. >> japan and south korea have vow ed a strong reaction if the north were to go through with that plan. still more breaking news from president trump. he now says he will declare the opioid epidemic a national c crisis. e he made that announcement during an appearance outside his golf club this afternoon. an opioid commission urged him to declare a national emergency. a declaration would give the white house more power to pay for treatment programs and make overdose reversing drugs more widely available. you know what that music means. are you ready for football? we are. nbc 10en counting down until kickoff of the eagles preseason. the birds will take on the packers in just about four hours. the wait is is almost over. >> nbc 10 is the official eagles station and the only station you'll find all of the preseason competition. nbc 10 and csn traveled all 700

miles from philadelphia to green bay to bring you an all access pass for tonight's first preseason game. keith jones is live at lambeau field, home of the packers. >> something tells me e he didn't mind the 700-mile trek. the weather not necessarily cooperating, at least right now. >> reporter: you're 100% right. wisconsin is a lovely state. green bay is charming. right now the weather just stinks. it has been raining hard on and off. in fact, at a couple points, small pelts of hail came down. this is historic lambeau field. as you can see, they are blowing hot water on the field. they have it covered with this giant white tarp that stretches the whole b length from end zone to end zone. and we are just standing now waiting, locking to the hens at

heavens at a gray sky. sometimes it breaks up, sometimes it dumps heavy rain on us. our first alert weather team before we came out here and flou the 700 miles, warned us about this. it was the one circumstance i wish they had gotten it wrong. the eagles and packers are going to come out here and play i hope in an hour or so. they are going to remove this tarp. the big concern at this point is lightning for the players' sake and our sake here on the sidelines. but we're going to bring you behind the scenes. at 5:00, we're going to tell you about fans that drove ten and a a half hours just to see one player. they drove from bismarck, north dakota, all the way here to see philadelphia eagles quarterback, number 11, carson wentz. you'll hear their story at 5:0037. we're live in green bay, which is dry at the moment and lovely. keith jones, nbc 10 news.

people at the beach. >> the beach is crowd ed. the weekend almost here. children enjoy cooling off in the fountain. meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz has a first look at the forecast. >> you can see how clear it is along the beaches. so it's even better there. there's some of the high clouds racing through. and some fair weather clouds around the philadelphia area. farther out to the west, there's more moisture and so there is rain in the forecast. we head to the weekend. there's that rain that keith was in in green bay. that one cell just went through there. then we have a break and there's one other big thunderstorm to the west. but those things would not be

lasting long. 85 degrees in philadelphia. 87 in northeast philly. temperatures in the 70s at the shore. the ocean temperature 75 degre degrees. it's going to be dry. it's going to be comfortable. it's just beautiful. probably wish it would stay this way all the way through the weekend, but it won't. i'll let you know when the rain is likely to come and where in just a few minutes. >> thank you. 20 minutes of nonstop news continues with a sheriffs deputy now out of the hospital after he was burned by a molotov cocktail. he was trying to serve a search warrant at the time. >> nbc 10 followed this breaking news from delaware county all afternoon long yesterday. this morning police handcuffed the suspect. he was wearing the handcuffs that belonged to the deputy he's accused of injuring. he's being held on $1 million cash bail. >> george spencer is live at the

apartment complex where this all unfolded right around this time yesterday. george, police think this is no small miracle that more people weren't hurt. >> reporter: no doubt about that. things much calmer than just about 24 hours ago. authorities say the. suspect actually cracked open the inside white door here just across the street and tossed a molotov cocktail at the law enforcement team there to serve ab arrest warrant on him. they ended up only being able to arrest him after a standoff. sheriffs deputies escorted him into his arraignment this morning wearing the handcuffs and shackles of the deputy he could have killed yesterday. >> they are the unsung heros. >> reporter: the police chief proclaimed a heroism this

morning of the warrant squad of police officers and sheriffs deputies who were serving an arrest warrant ob jones at this apartment yesterday when he cracked open the front door and tossed a cocktail. >> witnesses told us they were stunned. >> scared to death. his colleagues rushed to put out the flames while jones barricaded himself back inside the house. starting an hour-long standoff that it drew nearly 200 officers. >> the crew that was there, their train iing came right in. >> jones was arrested and inside the apartment authorities say they found five more of the home made bombs. he was rushed to the hospital with second and third degree burns. his release today earlier than expected happens to coincide with his 33rd birthday.

>> his life was truly in danger. he's very lucky. we're all very lucky he's still here. >> jones is being held at the delaware county prison unable to post his $1 million cash bail. a judge has also ordered a mental health evaluation as he awaits trial on these four counts of attempted homicide. the office of the man looking into russian investigation is adding staff and will reveal how much he's spending on the probe. there are now 16 attorneys on staff working the case. that's an increase multiple reports say the operation is running out of a building not far from the fbi's washington field office. and close to the courthouse in washington where there is reportedly a grand jury seated. money for this this investigation comes out of the justice department budget.

the special counsel must report the spending after september 30th. and that information will be made public. just yesterday fbi agents searched a search warrant at the former campaign chairman. special counsel mooueller is investigating manafort for his part in russian meddling. a sense of calm has returned to a philadelphia neighborhood after police went door to door this morning looking for a home invasion robbery suspect. officers chased him into overbrok. they spotted his car on city avenue around 2:30 this morning. the man was wanted for robbing a family inside their house in mount airy last night. according to investigators, he crashed the family's car he stole and took off running. officers caught him. neighbors are still shaken. >> it was at night. i have a son who plays outside. every once in awhile something

crazy happens. residents of margate may learn the fate of a a construction project that some say has plagued their shore community during the height of the summer season. a judge is expected to rule by the end of today. yesterday both sides argued the issue in federal court in camden. an expert for the army corps of engineers testified that large ponds of water formed near the dunes after a recent storm and they are only temporary. the environmental engineer claims this is the worst public health hazard he's ever seen. members of a shuttered fraternity are back in court to determine if they will be tried for the death of a pledge. 16 of them arrive d in court ths morning. two others have already waived the hearing. some are accused of involuntary manslaughter. others face less serious charges. the charges stem from the death inside the house back in february. he died after a night of

drinking and several falls including twice down a flight of stairs. this is actually day four of a hearing that began back in june. it could wrap up tomorrow. when it does, the judge will decide if there's enough evidence to send the case to trial. taylor swift took the stand today in her sexual assault trial. here's some quotes from her testimony. and intentionally grabbed her backside during a meet and greet in denver. swift said after the incident she tried to get as far away from mueller as she could. in delaware there are new concerns about what's happening inside the prison where inmates took guards hostage earlier this year. nbc 10 learned nine staff members from the correctional center have been placed on administrative leave. the department of corrections is investigating a new incident involving an inmate who went to the inferm ri. the departmenten wouldn't reveal

any further details. back to our breaking news in lehigh valley. we have been following crews on the scene of a huge fire in bethleh bethlehem. >> i have been here for about 15 or 20 minute nous. this plume of smoke can be seen for miles. this appears to be a large warehouse building in the majestic bethlehem industrial park that is currently under construction. and what it locks to be burning is up on the roof. if i can see those large containers of things t appears to be roofing materials that may be on fire. and earlier we could noe not see

water being pumped on the fire. and apparently there was some water issues here because the fire department are located on this corner. there aren't any down in that area. . this building since it's under construction has not had any sprinklers installed yet. so they are bringing in other tanker trucks from outside the city. so this may elevate to a second or third alarm as time progresses. excuse me, one second. >> we see more fire trucks coming. any idea how large this response is? earlier we could see some of the firefighters on the roof there kind of checking this thing out. i don't see any water going on

it right now. are they kind of in a holding pattern? are they waiting for the tanker trucks? >> there's some water going on the fire now. i can see signs of lighter-colored smoke, which is a good sign. that means there's some type of water going on there. but i don't see water coming out of the ladder trucks currentlien of the east side roof. there are trucks connected to hydrants, but i can't tell if these are using water yet or not. either way they are bringing in tanker trucks and hopefully there had been under control soon. >> we're going to stay on top of the breaking news and continue to update you as we get more information about this massive fire under construction in north hampton county. >> no injuries there. as you heard they could use some

water. no rain today, but we are expecting some in the first alert neighborhood forecast. e we check in with glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> we'll have to wait until tomorrow night or saturday to see the rain that would help put out the fire. the wind is out of the south at 7 miles per hour. there isn't a strong wind to blow it in any one particular direction other than slightly to the north. it's warmed us up a bit. it was 86 an hour ago. well into the 80s across much of the area. a lot of the area has sunshine. as we showed you a little while ago, it's nothing but sunshine at the beaches. the sea breeze has helped push even the fair weather clouds inland. it's 78 in hol gait. that's two spectacular days in a

row. tomorrow will be okay. just not as nice as the last two. you see the higher clouds across pennsylvania. nothing on the radar. it's ab indication the atmosphere is starting to get more moist. in through tonight, things are fair. during the day tomorrow, it's generally dry. even though the clouds will be there, maybe a little threatening at times. then tomorrow night the system comes in from with the west. a lot of the computer models insisting the heaviest rain in delaware and south jersey and this is saturday morning. this model keeps the rain in even until the afternoon. other models do have it moving

sparks were literally flying at a city council meeting. a battery inside a woman's purse burst into flames. she stood up quickly but not fast enough to escape any injuries. investigators b aren't sure what the battery belonged to, but they say it was not the woman's cell phone. take a look. you see the silver suv. a 2-year-old boy was the only person inside that suv when the car tumbled 150 feet down a hillside. and he remained calm throughout the entire orr dole. >> it happened tuesday afternoon just outside pittsburgh. the boy somehow knocked the car

we want to take you back to this breaking news out of the lehigh value e lee. a massive fear here at a building under construction. this is on commerce center boulevard. it's unclear exactly what this building is under construction will house. trying to get water up on to the roof where it appears towards the flames and smoke is coming from. now we have video from sky force 10 which flou over the scene. we'll get you a better picture in a moment. as you can see, it's a massive building there. an industrial park in bethlehem on commerce center boulevard. we're going to watch this. no injuries reported and anybody

we had a severe storm move through green bay in the past hour. you saw keith drenched with it. we have another shower near black creek. these back to the west right now look like they are tracking to the north of green bay. but that's the area that i'm going to be watching most carefully. the futurecast hour by hour continuing to show scattered showers. as long as you just have show showers, you can play through that. through the evening there's less ask less and less because it's partly related to the heating of the day. so the threat for any kind of shower or thunderstorm will be closer to the beginning of the game and for every minute that you go through the game once it starts, the chance of rain and thunderstorms goes down. >> nbc 10 is the only place to watch tonight's action. john and keith jones will get you start ed with eagles preseason kickoff. a full hour of eagles features and analysis to get you ready

for the game beginning at 7:00 and then at 8:00 the birds take on the packers followed by nbc 10 news at 11:00. now to more breaking news. police in philadelphia looking for a car that was just stolen and we're told there was a child inside the vehicle. it all happened at roosevelt boulevard within the past 10 to 15 minutes. police are look iing for a silv car with a a child in the backseat. sky force 10 is on the way. and then on the ground nbc 10's drew smith is on the way. we'll bring you new information as soon as we have it. now here's a look at the other stories we're following this it afternoon. county by county at 4:00, in bucks county, a dive team is part of the investigation into a death at the house in upper mayfield township. shorts found the body inside of the house on river road tuesday night. the discovery prompted them to search the nearby delaware river. authorities have not said why or how the victim died. they also have not commented on whether they are searching for a

suspect. let's head to delaware kr county where a man is facing charges for a hit-and-run in brooken haven. the land. skaper jumped on to the hood of the car. after slamming on the breaks, investigators say the landscaper was thrown from the vehicle. he's doing okay. he's now in jail charged with attempted murder. the warnings are coming to an end for anybody violating pennsylvania's new child safety seat rule. the grace period ends saturday. drivers who not do not comply will receive a fine. it requires all car seats to face backwards. it took effect last august. a violation resulted in a warning. a hot spot for birthday parties is blowing out one last candle before closing its doors for

rank. the real threat is coming for the weekend. >> it looks like it's going to be about half and half weekend. sunday definitely better than saturday. 85 in philadelphia today. pretty great day. and second one in a a row. more clouds starting to advance. at least for parts of the area now. keeping the temperatures down a little bit. only 81. newark at 82. middletown at 84 farther to the south, 9. and there it is. 76 at duey beach. we have had a lot of sunshine. hardly any clouds down by the beaches. the clouds are thicker to the north. there's one area of showers getting into west virginia. there's more coming through green bay, wisconsin. and some of that will be headed this way. we have clouds coming in tomorrow with the wind the ocean. the rain looks like it's going to hold off until probably late

tomorrow night. and then on saturday, especially in the morning and especially in delaware and south enginejersey you're getting it. the wind shifts later in the day. pushing the rain out. but it may take a good bit of the day. especially at the shore to get rid of this moisture. so saturday is not looking like a beach day. here's sunday and the drier air is in already. it looks like a lot of sunshine for sunday. for tomorrow it is dry everywhere except to the north. i have some showers in by tomorrow evening. even the daytime hours there will be okay. another pretty good day at the shore, although i do expect some clouds. and for the weekend, overall, saturday is way worse than sunday. less rain at the suburbs and lehigh valley than we're getting at the jersey shore and in delaware. it looks like everybody stays

dry on sunday. jersey shore is fairly warm because there's a sea breeze for at least part of the day. there's the heavy rain on saturday. much nicer on sunday. wildwood, same story. heavy rain on saturday. sunday is warmer, humidity goes down a little bit. atlantic city, similar story. the rain heavy at times on saturday. could be potential flooding. . then sunday we have a great day as well. so half and half is better than nothing. now to that breaking news that we mentioned just a short while ago. this is ab update on the story about a stolen car with a child in the backseat. we just learned that the child was dropped off at a fire house along roosevelt boulevard. the father is now with the

child. you can see emergency responders there, police. the suspect who stole the car that the child was in the backseat, that suspect is still on the loose. this all happened and started at the boulevard. again, a silver car that was taken. the child was in the backseat at the time. e we know the child is safe with his father and police are still looking for the suspect in the case. we'll be right back.

huge complex was a favorite with locals that posted thousands of birthday parties. >> good place for the kids. >> reporter: it's been a fixture since 1981. >> it's hard to leave this area. that's for sure. >> reporter: word is getting out they are going to close its doors come late november no more ski ball, no more deciding what prizes you'll get with the tickets. and no more birthday parties. i watched a lot of parents raise their kids or kids grow up and bring their own kids here. it's been an honor to be here with them. >> reporter: nick lives in florida burks he grew up down the road and had to get his boys in her one last time before it closes. >> i used to love this place. i spent a bunch of my childhood here. >> the owner is selling the land for a german grocery store chain. he took over the sports center and says they are still passionate about it.

force 10 now is live over northeast philadelphia where police say they have found a child who was inside a car that was stolen in the northeast. that thief dropped the child out of a a fair station minutes earlier he stole the car at roosevelt boulevard. you're looking at the father and the child reunited there. officers around them. police are still looking for that thief as well as the car. drew smith is on the way to the scene right now. he's just a few minutes away. but that child has been reunited with his father. we'll have a live report as soon as he gets there. firefighters are try ing in contain a massive fire at a building under construction in bethlehem. nbc 10 was first to bring you live pictures on nbc 10 news at 4:00. now to a live picture from our photo journalist on the ground. fi
