"nbc10 news at 11" starts right now. nbc10 breaking news. >> now at 11:00, racist rhetoric and deadly violence. a white nationalist rally is now blamed for deaths following a car crash and a helicopter crash. >> and i have a message to all the white supremacists and the nazis who came into charlottesville toot. our message is plain and simple. go home. >> i'm denise nakano. here's our first look at the driver, 20-year-old jamesfields junior from ohio is charged with second degree murder. police say he drove his car into protesters. some members of congress call a terrorist act. this is new drone video of the time the car crashed into a group of protesters. the charlottsville police chief says it was premeditated.

here's what we know right now. one woman died in the crash. 35 others were hurt. different groups of protesters clashed with white nationalists, kk members, and neo-nazis. two members of virginia's state police died when their helicopter crashed in the woods. tonight, no foul play is suspected in that crash. also, president trump is taking heat for condemning the violence on "many sides," and not taking a tougher stance. nbc national correspondent chris pallone is followingtant's developments. >> reporter: after one of the country's largest gatherings of white nationalist since the civil rights era, virginia governor terry mcauliffe had a message for them. >> go home. >> reporter: it came at the end of a second day of violence as they brawled with people who opposed their message of hate. police shut down the unite the right protest before it started as hundreds of white nationalists carrying weapons, confederate battle flags and

snaz nazi symbols clashed with counterprotesters. >> this event is an unlawful assembly. >> reporter: two hour later a car plowed into a crowd downtown. sending bodies flying. one woman died. police arrested a driver. a witness called it terror. >> this was a terrorist attack. what happens in france when pedestrians plowed into intentionally it's called a terrorist attack. >> president trump at his new jersey golf club. >> we condemn this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides, on many sides. >> reporter: several congressional republicans went further than the president condemning white supreme yifs and branding their tactics terrorism, as well. >> oh, my, it is. >> reporter: a virginia state police helicopter which had been monitoring the protests crashed late saturday afternoon killing both officers on board. the end of a violent and deadly day in a city on edge. chris pallone, nbc news.

the rally and violence outraged people across the delaware valley. tonight, people took to the streets to demonstrate from bucks county to center city. drew smith joins us live from city hall and drew, what was the message tonight? >> denise, demonstrators filled this whole area of dilworth park and wanted to show they stand with the people of virginia and said these types of hate and racist behavior can happen up in this area and they want it to stop. >> we should all be angry. >> reporter: from the shadow of city hall to the streets of center city, demonstrator margined among cars and rain drops, their mission to call out racism. >> let's send this out to charlotte,sville. >> reporter: in bucks county, david mizer told us he has family in charlottesville. >> to have something like that happen in that town is horrific. >> reporter: marlene prey says some members of her group,

riceup doylestown travelled to counterprotest the rally in virginia. >> when i said good-bye to one guy i knew was going, i believe i put my hands on his shoulders and said please be safe. ♪ >> reporter: tonight, back home, they sang songs and lit candles hoping for peace. >> i'm distressed it's happening in 2017. i'm sad we're still here. >> reporter: earlier this year, people here found kkk fliers on their doorsteps. more recently signs like these were vandalized. >> this goes on in our own neighborhoods. >> reporter: today some people heckled the rally. leaders here say they need to work on bringing people together. >> i think we're very divided. i hope it doesn't get worse. i think it can only get better. if we all do things like this and work together. both sides. >> reporter: and there were some significant track issues during

and now to the do you know debacle in margate. today, the arm corpse of engineers continued to put up a fence around the ponding area. earlier this week a judge ruled the do you know project could continue but a fence must be put up. an nbc10 viewer sent us these pictures from the beach where workers moved sand to the current project. tomorrow there is a rally planned to save the beaches. residents plan to meet on the beach to show their anger that the dunes project is still going on despite the recent lagoons that have formed. the benchmark twilight cycling class got underway tonight in westchester. 125 pro cyclists raced through the streets. several amateur races are being held throughout the day. the main race started just before 9:00 tonight. next at 11:00, the eagles

latest developments out of charlottesville, virginia. just minutes ago, the fbi announced it is opening a civil rights investigation into what happened today. now, you're going to see a picture of 20-year-old james fields junior of ohio. police say he was behind the wheel of a dodge charger that ran into a group of white nationalists protesting in the street. one person was killed, 19 others were in the hospital. fields is charged with second
