groups and the symbols they celebrate. the latest sign of the erupting tensions spilling over from a deadly weekend of hate. this confederate statue pulled down by protesters and stomped on by anti-hate groups, taking a stand against white nationalists. >> facing mounting pressure he did not explicitly condemn the role of white supremacists in deadly protests. president trump addressed the country again today. >> racism is evil. those who cause violence in its name including the kkk, white supremists and other prahate groups.

hatred, bigotry in violence on many sides, on many sides. >> the driver who police say was behind the wheel of the car, 20-year-old james alex fields denied bail on charges of second-degree murder, malicious wounding and hit-and-run. heather hire was killed. 19 others injured. memorials growing for lives lost and protests demanding change. members of one local community also took to the streets tonight to rise up against hate and violence. nbc 10 for a vigil in response to this past weekend's. this rally was organized by rise up for racial justice. they are speaking out against the tone of racial justice and racism sweeping across the country. despite the outcry nationalists groups say i they plan to hold

more events across the country. richard is asking to speak at the university of florida. a monument to robert e. lee. texas a&m university says it has cancelled a white lives matter rally that was cancelled next month. experts say the number of people involved in these groups has not grown significantly. they think it is now more publicly acceptable. they si president trump's overrated made them think their hatred is no longer taboo. we took a closer look at the rise of hatred in our area. you can watch his investigation on nbc10.com. we have full coverage of the response to charlottesville on our web site as well. also tonight new video from a marijuana house in west philadelphia. nbc 10 was there as police

brought out bags and bags of the drug. nbc 10 was first to report on the bust which forced some to evacuate their homes. keith joan is following the latest from outside the home, keith. >> a neighbor said it smelled like a dead body inside this home. instead authorities found marijuana on all four floors. more than 3,000 square feet, more than 100 marijuana plants one by one in bags removed by police who scoured every room, one for seedlings and another for shipping. it surprised neighbors. >> little kids didn't want to come look because they were afraid it was something terrible. i knew wasn't fire. i wasn't sure what was going on. >> when neighbors found it it was pot. >> you know, unless people are doing harm to other people -- and i know there's a drug

problem but in the scale of drugs marijuana i wouldn't see as a terribly dangerous drug. >> police disagree. they say extension cords are all over the house. >> one spark could take the whole block down. these homes are so close. >> the scene sparked conversation. >> i think marijuana should be decriminal sized and it should be taxed and sent to the philadelphia schools. >> the owner was not home. police know who he is. he is facing drug charges and risks catastrophe. keith jones, nbc 10 news. >> now to your first alert weather. the nbc 10 radar shows rain over parts of the region tonight. the wet weather could hit your neighborhood by the morning. glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with an update.

>> yeah. we have wet roads already. we are not talking about heavy rain overnight tonight. there is i-95 and a little bit of wetness on the road. if it's not wet know where you are it's likely to get that way. look at this area of rain coming in. it is mostly on the light side. it is coming into philadelphia now, chester county, northern delaware. there's more on the way as we go into the morning. let's go through the morning and you can see by the morning rush another area of mostly light rain coming through. lots of clouds and a chance of thunderstorms in southern delaware and south jersey. that is late morning towards noon. so it's not going to be raining over the entire area for the entire day but it is a cloudy day, a relatively cool day and relatively wet day as well. temperatures are in the 70s for the most part now. it can't warm up with clouds and

rain but it will heat up during this week. i'll have more on that coming up. a quiet community shaken after police say an 84-year-old woman was tied up with a belt inside her own home in philadelphia. family and friends are thankful this 84-year-old woman was not harmed. police say a man in his 30s broke into her home around 2:00 this afternoon. he then tied her up with belts in the basement and tried to rob her. after he ran off the womanaged to untie herself and call for help. >> he had her tide up in the basement. she untied herself and went up and yelled fire. >> it seems like a free thing. i have to assume it's not a trend. >> the victim was naturally shaken up but willing okay. the guy who did this has not been caught. staying in south philadelphia where police have a double murder mystery on their hands. they say they were found dead

inside their home on federal street late last night. police would only say it was a violent scene. they say the home was ransacked but no signs of a forced entry. concerned neighbors hit the streets of chester tonight to call for peace. community leaders handed out streets to people as they passed by. they also delivered messages of hope to people listening in a city gripped by violence. a shootout sent four people to the hospital. it is the late nest what's been a violent month in the delaware county community. >> we have rest in peace shirts all over the place. it effects the community, the kids. the kids can't go to school and learn in peace. you hear gunshots every night. >> there have been 21 homicides in chester so far this year. that's compared to 26 all of last year. the anti-defamation league

condemning an act of vandalism. they captured a man urinating just after midnight sunday. he also made an obscene gesture to the camera. they say until they determine a motive it is too soon to call this a hate crime. late night parking will now be banned at redding's pagoda. it is prohibiting parking between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. people have been complaining about noise and illegal activity lately. the ban is expected to go into ifect later this month. some parents think kids spend too much time on standardized tests. governor tom wolf announced changes to state wide testing. it should shorten the amountd of time kids spent on this by 20%.

tonight the opioid epidemic claimed the life of a 13-year-old boy. he died from heroin and phentanyl. his family and friends are at a loss for words. >> reporter: they would see the 13-year-old boy playing

doesn't know how her son got to drugs. she said two weeks before his death his behavior changed. he was skipping class. she added whoever is supplying these babies with drugs needs to be stopped. my heart is broken, shattered in a million pieces. >> a 13-year-old kid that's not that type of kid, that's not out roaming the streets. >> reporter: nbc 10 news. a hearing tomorrow on a proposed medical marijuana dispins pence di dispensa dispensary. the facility would be on fenton aven avenue. bass said she thinks it should be closer to existing medical facilities and not in residential areas. it is one of the most popular tourists destinations. now authorities uncovered thousands of gallons of tainted alcohol after raids on two hot

spots. they seized 10,000 gallons of tainted alcohol after raiding more than 30 nightclubs in cancun and playa del carmen. police want to know if it happened to you, stalked while shopping. he followed a woman and video taping her in a fitting room as she changed. police believe he has done the same thing to as many as 100 other women. they haven't said what happened to the video to or photos of the other victims. swift justice. taylor swift won $1. a jury ruled in the singer's favor in her case against a radio host.

swift's counter claim was for a single dollar. after the verdict she thanked her supporters and anyone who feels silenced by a sexual assault. anchts swarm of fire flies took over the ben franklin tonight. they were attached to petty cabs. it commemorates 100 years of the parkway. the main event comes to town next month. rain moving in tonight and heat and humidity follows. let's get our first alert forecast from glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> yeah. first comes the rain and then comes the heat. it will take a little while for that heat to come in. it is mostly on the light side right now coming into philadelphia and delaware and chester county. lancaster getting it right now. there's more back to the west and that is what is coming in over the next 24 hours. you can see that area. it's moving right in this direction.

we are going have clouds all day. going to keep the temperature down and then we have waves of rain and showers moving through. here we go. hour after hour there's something on the radar. occasionally a thunderstorm pops up. it's kind of a wet day. as we go into tomorrow night we start to clear out. that sets us up for the heat and humidity for wednesday. we are not seeing the showers or thunderstorms at that point. we are seeing the heat and humidity probably getting up to 90 degrees. of course one of the forecasts we are looking forward to is next monday for the eclipse. right now we are kind of in between weather systems. we are looking pretty good as far as the chances of sunshine. you need the sun to get blocked out for the eclipse. the other things we are watching in the tropics, we have a

hurricane in north korea. it -- in north carolina. it is going to be making a right turn and staying offshore as we go into the next couple of days. 75 miles per hour winds right now. it is going to be strengthening. it is expected to become a category 2. you can see that sharp right turn. there are other systems in the atlantic that could be developing. it will get more and more active as we get into the peak of a busy hurricane season. we are close to 90 dlegrees. we have humidity. a couple of days without thunderstorms and then it returns on friday. you can see the temperatures going up. in the lehigh valley the thunderstorms coming in as well. we'll show you those numbers. thunderstorms friday and into saturday. we dry out on sunday and so that sets us up for decent weather
