third public statement on the violence in charlottesville, and tonight it has people on both sides of the aisle pushing back. the response on twitter has been swift. we've seen leaders of the republican party speak out against the president directly or contradict his comes. we haven't found any who publicly support him tonight. and check out this video of the president's own chief of staff, john kelly with his head down and arms crossed during today's remarks. a senior white house official says the president went rogue and members of his team are stunned by the president's comments. good evening, i'm jacquelyn london. we have full reaction from leaders to community figures and voters. let's begin with the president's own words. keith jones is live in the breaking news center. >> this was a 180 from what the president said just yesterday. reporters were shouting, so, too, was the president at a time when many hoped he would unite the country.

violent. is it george washington next week and thomas jefferson the week after? you really have to ask yourself, where does it stop? >> reporter: new jersey congressman and women on both sides say it's time for both sides to unite. >> i don't think president trump has shown us the kind of respect or leadership that you would expect from a president of the united states. he's a disgrace. >> we need to come together as a country. yeah, call out racism for what it is. it's despicable. but let's not make it worse. >> i was very upset with the press conference today, because once again, president trump came out and equated these two groups as equals. >> reporter: the president was also asked today whether he plans to visit charlottesville, he responded by saying he owns one of the largest wineries in the country there. live in the breaking news center, keith jones, nbc 10 news. from the grocery store to the radio waves, a lot of people are talking about the president's speech tonight.

here's of solomon jones. >> he has said that on the one hand that he condemns white supremacy, that he condemns neo-nazis, that he condemns those kinds of things, which are great, but on the other side, he seems to say both sides are to fault. >> to compare black lives matter with any of those bigots is an outrage and completely disrespectful to those who are putting their bodies on the line in the black lives matter movement. >> that was the black lives matter p.a. he says his organization has never killed anyone at a rally. also in bucks county, leaders spoke to the crowd gathered at this vigil in yeardley. they gathered at the 9/11 memorial to call on the nation to move forward in the spirit of diversity, inclusion and peace. >> our values are far more resolute, and may i say, far

more american at their very core than any of the values that were espoused by those hate-filled groups. >> the group also remembered heather heyer, who was skilled duri -- killed during the protest. the business world is having a mixed reaction to the president's response of charlottesville. a fifth group dropped out of the manufacturing jobs council. the ceo of campbell's soup is taking a different approach. the company has condemned the violence and racial ideology, but the ceo says it's important to have a voice on issues affecting its industry and employees. her decision has led critics to push for a campbell's boycott. and we want you to join the conversation. what do you think of the president's comments? post your thoughts under this story on our nbc 10 facebook page. the protests in charlottingville have also sparked a debate over statues.

you heard the comment over confederate leaders, but here it surrounds a former mayor. we are live in center city right by the statue of frank rizzo. this is a topic that divides many people in philadelphia. >> reporter: just in the hour, as we were setting up for this, someone put a sign and threw an egg at the statue. you're going to get met with passion on both sides of the fence. a call for possible vandalism led police to the statue in center city tonight of officers didn't find anything significant but it has gotten attention in the past. the statue stands across the street from philadelphia helen gim's office. >> it's painted by racism of some of the most violent sorts. >> reporter: she suggested they

move it to a museum. >> it's part of a history that's philadelphia and we shouldn't look away, but it's not one that belongs in the heart of our city. >> reporter: supporters of the police commissioner believe it should stay in place. >> it's very near and dear to my heart that the statue stay and the mayor's legacy live on. >> i believe this was on cash avenue. >> reporter: jodi is one of thousands who signed a recent online petition to keep the statue in place. de la barba doesn't think he was racist. >> integrate the police cars with a black and white officer in the cars. is that a racist? i don't think so. >> reporter: for robert vogel, his feelings on the statue are mixed. he says rizzo gave the tribune xl access for the first time in 90 years but that rizzo didn't always do the right thing. >> i think those that permitted the statue to be put there who represented citizens of philadelphia should be

for a south "jersey majersey ma children. they were reported missing monday. we learned the fbi had been assisting in the search. gloucester township police say all three are safe and no charges have been filed. a break tonight in a deadly hit-and-run case in philadelphia. investigators say they have found the vehicle believed to be involved. police recovered this white jeep today in delaware county. authorities are still looking for this man described as a person of interest in the case. the victim was killed on race street on august 6th. police say she was not in the crosswalk at the time of the crash. a $15,000 reward is on the table if you can help philadelphia police find a arson suspect. investigators say the man in this surveillance video tried to set several city-owned cars and others on fire at a garage located under the 12th district police station. he soaked a sheet with flammable

liquid and set it near cars outside of the building. fortunately, he wasn't able to light it. and police need your help finding him. >> what we're asking the public to look at is the clothing worn, the pants he's wearing, the faded nature down by his calves. and as he leaves the parking garage and how he walks. >> police think he knew the area based on his familiarity with the building. new at 11:00, lead concerns. trenton waterworks discovered 14 homes had higher than acceptable lead levels in their drinking water. the company sent letters to residents. the city has determined the piping is on the line from the water main to the homes, not in the actual main itself. a philadelphia neighborhood is fighting back over a proposed medical marijuana dispensary. resident of mt. airy showed up in big numbers.

stealing her eyesight. >> it's hard to see things. >> reporter: her family fears she'll be completely blind in a few months. they wanted to fulfill her one wish, a trip to disney world. it is now on the back burner. a go fund me page has been shut down by an organizer the family has never met. >> the whole decision was about lexie, her face, her name, everything. >> reporter: the plug was pulled after the site raised $5500 in less than a week, telling nbc 10 it was due to red flags about the family's other fund raising efforts. a statement was sent that said all i could think about was so many children in same circumstances that don't have a fourth of what this family has gotten. he promises to return all the money, including $1800, he says go fund me has already deposited into his account. smith sent us this e-mail saying

the process of recovering the funds is already under way. he writes, go fund me was contacted by me to refund everyone of the $5600 we raised in five to six days. on their own, they've raised about $19,000 for her medical spences and the family's ongoing needs during her treatment. they say the little girl with the strength of wonder woman is showing strength through her disappointment. her dream of going to disney will have to wait another day. >> it's not about the money. it's not. it's just about breaking her party about heart about her dream and a wish. >> i feel really disappointed. i was happy and all. and now i'm just upset. >> reporter: in south philadelphia, denise nakano, nbc 10 news. a hairy situation after a family was served with a warrant for having a coyote pup. spring township police and the

risk in the high category tomorrow. so dangerous swells coming out from that storm. so you may not want to go in the water for a day, even if you're vacationing down there. as we go through the day tomorrow, we start off with the fog, break out into some sunshine. temperature goes up near 90. humidity is up, and that sets up up for thursday. that's when the clouds start to come back in and eventually some rain. now, is it going to get into philadelphia by the time the eagles start? going to be a close call. that's the latest computer models. at least at some point during the game there may be at least a couple showers. and then saturday, it's more than a few showers. it's a lot more rain again. we do not need this rain. it has been plenty wet. tomorrow, 90 in fair mont. 89, 86 in burks county, generally dry, nice, warm breeze

it looks like yeawe're going toe a couple eagles debuts. take a look at carson wentz today. he has stayed after for extra practice and signed autographs. 36,000 bird fans at the link for the last open practice. carson, what do you expect thursday night for the game? >> i expect it to be loud, honestly, for a preseason game, you never know what to expect, but they're hungry. they're ready for it. so i expect it to be rockin'. in the middle of camp like it this when we're kind of toward the end, you just got the defense so many times, you are ready for an opponent. we are ready for that opportunity. >> we are antsy. the birds did release their leading rusher from last year, ryan mathews. his neck injury finally healed.
