minutes. 20 minutes of nonstop news continues with a meltdown for a south jersey man accused of murdering his wife. his first court apoerns was delayed because he had an emotional breakdown. prosecutors say long was worried his wife was going to leave him. cydney long was the only tv reporter in court for today's hearing. this hearing almost didn't even happen. >> reporter: i can tole you we sat in the courtroom wondering for a long time the hearing ran almost two hours late. that's because we're told long put up a fight and had to be forcibly brought here by sheriffs deputies for today's proceeding. norman long appeared in court for the first time today. he showed almost no emotion as attorneys discuss how he killed his wife michelle inside their home june 21st. >> it was a violent attack by him. the medical examiner found that

there was bruising on her hands consistent with defensive wounds. there was a struggle. >> we know more about the motive, the time line and evidence that will be used to prosecute long. they were looking at homes for sale on the computer moments before she was killed. >> this is what happened as a result of him finding out about that. >> reporter: michelle's last text was a the 5:00, her death occurring between 6:15 and 7:00 p.m., which left a wood floor soaked in blood. then prosecutors say long put hearse body in the pool and drives by this car wash twice before spending a half hour at this. apple bees three miles from his house. >> he removed himself for a time period. came up with the story he found her in the pool. >> loved ones shook their heads and shed tears as they asked for leniency. the judge ultimately ruling the

alibi and body in the pool was an obstruction of justice. he called it a cover up that makes him a flight risk and danger to the community. since the murder in june and his arrest on august 12 nd, long still has not gone to jail. that's because he continues to undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determine if he is fit for incarceration. we asked but neither norman long orlong's loved one chose to spo today. a show of support for a sexual assault victim. several groups are planning a run. that's the park where a jogger was attacked earlier this month. no one has been arrested. police are offering a $10,000 reward in the case. there's no fee to join that run tonight. but organizers hope runners will donate to the victim services center of montgomery county.

a fight over medical marijuana. sydney bass called on the state to revoke the permit. plans are in the works to turn an old bank building into a medical marijuana dispensary. some neighbors and the councilwoman are worried about traffic and safety near an all-cash business. >> we feel this is a very inappropriate location. this is a residential neighborhood. and medical marijuana ought to be placed, i believe, on a commercial corridor or if possible, on or near a medical facility. >> company owners say their facility will be extremely safe and they believe the business will make the community safer. the neve you of a local boxing legend is arrested want issed of murdering a man in a north hampton county bar eight years ago. jacob holmes jr. is the nephew of larry holmes. prosecutors expect to charge the

back to our first alert weather and the uncomfortable conditions that made their return. taking a live look down broad street. if you're on the sunny side of the the street, it was a little hot. >> if anything, it's going to get more humid for the next couple days. especially on friday. you may be welcoming the rain with the humidity that high. 87 in philadelphia now. fairly humid. but look at that skyline. we had dense fog this morning. we told you about it yesterday. it was going to happen. all that rain yesterday kept the temperature in the 0s. and we've got temperatures in the mid-80s across the entire

area. we had a land breeze for much of the day. youen don't get temperatures like that with a 77 degree ocean without being a land breeze. now you can see the effect of the sea breeze. the clouds have moved inland. you can see it all coming down from the northwest. in it's cloudy, it's not going to last. we have moisture back to the west. it's in kentucky and illinois. it's not exactly racing here. and is is it going to get here by the time the eagles are playing. there's really not going to be anything tomorrow morning. even by midday, we don't really have anything. but then we're starting to see a

a couple showers popping up here and there. and now we're near the start of the game. that means the chance of rain falling right over that ballpark is just not that high. if the game goes on long enough, we could see more significant rain later on at night. then into friday, things really get nasty. we have lots of humidity. really florida-like humidity. that's going to lead to florida-like thunderstorms. some of this rain on the heavy side going into friday night. some of the models keep it wet through friday night and clea g clearing it out on saturday. but it's certainly looking like saturday is an improvement. a big improvement over friday.

out by police had to be taken offline. the reason, a security issue. the app called property lock box allowed users to joup load information of photos and personal belongings in case they were ever stolen. the problem, users could e see not only their items, but their neighbors too. the security expert warned police and that app was taken offline. it's time to peddle in gloucester county. they launched their new bike shair program today. it features a e kiosk with ten bikes. kiosk is right near the new health and fitness trails. they are free to ride and you have to download an app. you get a code to unlock one of the bikes. entertaining the kids comes at a ko. dorney park wants to change that. starting today through the 2018 season the park is offering pre-k passes that allows kids between 3 and 5 to get into the park for free. parents have to go online to register for the pass.

blo blocks out the sun will spread from oregon to south carolina at 1500 miles per hour. let's take a look. the eclipse will begin here in oregon at 9:04 a.m. pacific time just after noon our time. then it's going to move east. carr bonndale, illinois is is a key point. the town will be in the dark the longest, two minutes and 38 seconds. the last city will be charleston, south carolina. that's at 2:46 in the a.m. the most recent eclipse to move partially across the u.s. was in 1979. there was plenty of excitement back then. the "today" show was there for that one. >> i'm sorry we have to wait around for 2017 before we can do that one again. >> here we are 38 years later and the warning remains the same. you will risk permanent eye damage if you look at the eclipse without the proper protection. 80% of the sun will be covered in philadelphia. a local family plans to set up camp in the path of totality in

removal of a statue of former mayor frank riz sew, a police officer who served alongside the late leader opens up to 10. i'm jacqueline london. >> and i'm keith jones. all of this talk to remove statue started this week from a tweet from a councilwoman. she said, philly, we have work to do, take the rizzo statue down. that's following the national outcry of race relations that came to ahead in charlott charlottesville. rizzo was a a controversial figure. some consider him a symbol of racism. he became police commissioner in 196 and later served two terms as mayor. he integrated police cars with black and white officers and criticized after the police department raided the offices of the black panther party. tonight a barricade stands around the statue in center city protecting it after this man egged it this morning.
