tv. now to breaking traffic news. sky force 10 over a crash in delaware that continues to cause problems this afternoon. the accident involved several cars including an overturned tractor-trailer. you see it right there. this happened around 2:00 this afternoon along route 1 in middletown. this is roigt near the toll plaza. at last check the northbound and southbound ezpass lanes are closed. there are injuries in the crash but it's not clear how serious they are. we are going to follow this and monitor the situation. >> at the 50, 45, the 20, the

we have some fair weather cumulus clouds around. there are some showers in delaware. but those have been moving straight to the east. we're going to follow them and make sure they don't come up toward the stadium. there's a slight chance that a shower could move in there. this is the hour by hour as we go through the evening. you can see a a couple little tiny dots there. if you do get any rain, it would last a matter of minutes. it's later on tonight after the game and after you get home that we're expecting showers and thundersto thunderstorms. as it goes through the night, 87 degrees. only dropping to the upper 70s. by 10:00, that's still pretty warm. especially considering that the humidity is going to be high. if you think the humidity is high tonight, wait until you see the forecast for tomorrow.

>> in a series of tweets today, the president says sad to see the history and culture of our great country being ripped apart with the removal of our beautiful statues and monuments. robert e. lee, who is next? also the beauty that is being taken out will be missed and never able to be comparably replaced. we follow the clashes where white nationalists protested the removal of a confederate statue. they were med meth by counterprotesters. the president has been criticized for suggesting both sides deserved equal blame for the voi lens. some of that has come from republican leaders. >> it's a tremendous political and perhaps a moral dilemma for republican leaders, which are the party of lyincoln.

>> senator colorado ree booker is leading a push to remove stat statues honoring soldiers from the u.s. capitol. he plans to introduce a bill in congress to have them taken down. there are ten statues in the capital. the artist who created the statue of former mayor frank rizzo is speaking out. this is a live look at the statue from city hall. i think protesters demanded that it be removed. rizzo promoted a culture of police brutality while in office. why he thinks taking it down is not necessarily the answer. that's still ahead at 4:30. >> the family of a college-bound freshman shot and killed in a road rage incident came face to face with the man accused of gunning her down. >> i don't really care about why he did it. there's no excuse. you can't justify why he murdered by daughter. >> the gunman waived his preliminary hearing.

look ed at us. >> no gesture or word could ease their pain. roverson said his family will pursue a civil lawsuit. >> he took something away from us. we want our daughter here. >> we reached out to the attorney who had no comment about the proceedings. the case moves to the court of common plea. aundrea cline-thomas, nbc 10 news. >> now to another road rage incident. a man is recovering after he was stabbed roigt in front of his son. according to investigators, the victim pulled up behind a parked car along mulberry street. several men got out. one of them stabbed the driver as his young son looked on.

al lentown city council is stepping up efforts to remove the mayor from office. they approved a measure to hire a lawyer to force the mayor to leave office. he has denied charges he took campaign bribes in exchange for city contracts. the trial in the matter is is scheduled for january. now to the latest on the tensions with north korea. secretary of state rex tillerson and defense secretary jim mattis are stressing u.s. military action against north korea is still on the table. the two made the statement while mattis hosted top officials from japan today. 30,000 students in guam return to school today. last week north korea threatened to lob four missiles into the water near guam, which is a u.s. territory. but this week the north said it would wait and watch before deciding to order a launch. boarded up bwindows and doos are not coping criminals out of an abandoned property.

the police department is urging neighbors to report anybody trespassing inside these vacant homes. the property are a magnet for crime and a danger for the neighborhood. >> it festers into something elsewhere it becomes drug activity, criminal activity starts to begin. things of that nature. >> about 1600 properties are currently unoccupied as camdenen continues to jushd go revitalization. volunteers helped demolish a vacant house. neighbor works america decided to team up for the event. volunteers painted a a colorful mural at the park. it is back to school for some college students. >> one local camden is you shus in a new era. 200 students moved in. this is the first dorm at the

location. the cost of paying for college continues to grow. but this year two colleges have teamed up to ease the financial burden for students. we'll tell you about the new scholarship program making that possible. now back to our breaking news in spain. president trump is condemning today's terrorist attack there and offering america's support. >> a speeding van jumped the sidewalk and plowed into a crowd gathered in a popular tourist area of barcelona. 12 poem are dead this afternoon. more than 80 others are hurt. police have arrested two people. isis claimed responsibility for the attack. in a statement released a short time ago, police have closed stores and train stations in the area.

lauren mayk will join us from the breaking news center at 4:30. now to our first alert weather. here's a live look from our kimmel center camera. people look like they are heading home for the day. let's get the latest from glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> we have just issued a first a alert for those storms as they come in during the day tomorrow for the entire area. it should be sweeping through the entire region. generally starting around 2:00 in the afternoon for areas in the lehigh valley, berks county and not exiting until after 11:00 tomorrow night. and this for tropical type downpours is going to be humid

tomorrow. right now, it's warm and humid. not nearly as humid edas tomorr. we're in the mid-80s across much of the area. the temperatures up to 91 in marshaltown. 82348 harmony hills. 88 in ready point. cool in dover. 78 and some rain. fellton at 9. a few of the fair weather clouds coming across the area. there's showers in if delaware. trying to cross delaware bay, but not very impressive. what is impressive is back to the west. and we have one, two, three, four lines of showers and

thunderstorms between us and that upper air low near minneapolis. probably more than one hit of showers or storms in the next 24 hours. tonight things are just isolated showers. that's it. not related. those are maybe some downpours by morning. so let's go into the eagles game this evening. by 8:00 still 81 degrees. and getting more humid as we go through the game. just a slight chance of a brief shower. so not going to interrupt the game or anything. upper 80s. some places near 90 degrees.

100 in philadelphia. this is not going to be a long lasting thing. not going to go into the weekend, but that is quite a shock to the system. then by saturday afternoon, it's the mid- to upper 80s again. it's going to be warm over the weekend. not nearly as uncomfortable as tomorrow. tomorrow morning, we may have some showers to start the day. a lot of clouds. a lot of humidity. sunshine up to 90. and then the thunderstorms come in. we're talking about 44:00 to k. and then they head right through delaware and south jersey. and they may get even stronger as we hit parts of enginejersey

southern delaware. that's not until 11:00 tomorrow fight. so most of the day it's not going to be raining. when it does, it's really going to be coming down hard. then we get the drier air coming in in time for the weekend. good timing with that. so here are the high temperatures. tomorrow, 88 with the thunderstorms. everybody gets hit at some point. on saturday, we're left with generally dry conditions. a little on the humid side over the weekend. nothing like tomorrow. near 90 degrees in philadelphia. even at the jersey shore, temperatures into the mid-80s because we're going to get a mostly land breeze. the latest forecast still looking good around here.

take a look at the top of your screen here. authorities say that gang of moped riders pulled off a a jewelry heist in the middle of the day. they used hammers to smash the glass at the london jowl ri store and grab the jewels and you see them speeding off. many no one was hurt. no those suspects are are still on the run. a a coast guard helicopter crew helped rescue this missing woman. >> the family of the 37-year-old hbt heard from her for four days. coast guard eventually discovered her on the cliff about 80 feet above the water. they battled high winds to bring

back to our breaking news. we're hearing from ab american tourist where 12 people are dead. dozens more injured after a van plowed into a crowd of people on the sidewalk in a popular tourist spot in the city of barcelona. >> e we checked back with lauren mayk who was in our breaking news center following all the developments. >> authorities say they expect the number of deaths to rise in barcelona. a white van jumped the sidewalk and plowed into a crowd of people in a popular area for

tourists. 12 people are confirmed dead. more than 80 are injured. police have arrested two suspects that they are trooeting as tourists. one woman stopped into a restaurant on the same street just minutes before the attack. >> six minutes prior, not even. i just ran in. i was going to catch a cab to visit a friend. i ran in to use the restroom. as i was running out, i couldn't get out. >> isis has claimed responsibility for today's attack. president trump condemned it on twitter. our spanish language sister station is on her way to barcelona to bring us live coverage of the attack here on nbc 10. live in the breaking news center, lauren mayk, nbc 10 news. we'll keep saying it.

the frank rizzo statue. people have protested demanding that statue come down call iing the mayor and police chief racist. >> this is all part of the protest that happened near this center city statue last night. but supporters of rizzo insists he was a man who helped the city. deanna durante brought the debate to the artist who created that statue and e she joins us live from center city. >> he says when he was approa approached about creating this artwork, he says he knew that frank rizzo was a controversial figure. e he also says that when it comes to controversy, ween shouldn't hide it or tear it down, but we should discuss it.

wind over the weekend. so it may be even warmer than this. these are the fair weather clouds around the philadelphia and points to the north. if anything showers are weakening. storms around washington and chesapeake bay they have been blasted. and we have some pretty impressive thunderstorms in western pennsylvania and ohio. another round in wisconsin. and all this is moving to the east. so we're not talking about a steady rain out of this. it's just some scattered thunderstorms. here we go through the night. nothing more than a brief isolated light shower in the next few hours. but it's toward daybreak that we may start to see some more significant weather come iing i. maybe even some thunderstorms to start your day.

how about a little financial help sending your child to college. two schools have now teamed up to create a scholarship program aimed at helping low income students afford a college education. this year money will be raised for the scholarship. >> starting next year, those funds will go to qualifying students. nbc 10's steven fisher explains. >> reporter: college is expensive and colleges like penn state and lehigh carbon have recognized that and are offering financial assistance to students
