they were wearing suicide belts. they say the explosives on the belts were fake. it began when a car drove into a crowd. six people and a police officer were injured. this morning news that one of those, a woman, has died. it happened hours after a van mowed down tourists. the police saying this morning the second took place in that seaside town 70 miles to the south of barcelona. police say they vague lie shot four people. a fifth died later. you can see behind me there are

are you there alicia? >> i am. >> set the scene for us. >> reporter: a section of barcelona where the attack happened yesterday is a popular part of town. it is filled the tourists. there are stores, restaurants, bars, museums, cathedrals all in that one section. so today i am seeing a lot of people -- they are still out. tour ris are out. people are really coming together. you can see candles, stuffed animal, notes all along that path. it cull minute nates at a large memorial that had hundred of little notes to the individual people whose lives were lost.

iris will be here this afternoon starting at 4:00. we are learning police in finland shot a police after he is expect suspected of stabbing several people. they say several people seen lying on the ground they are looking for more potential suspects in this case. back here at home the controversy over the rizzo statue as it was spray painted. police have a suspect in kcust y custody. we are live with what unfolded. >> reporter: and that suspect hopped out of his car just after 11:00 last night, walked over and began spray painting. take a look. the graffiti is completely gone but so is the police protective detail that was surrounding the detail. the mayor said vandalism has no

place here. city crews with power washers work to clean off the white spray paint after a vandal tagged the words black power. within hours philadelphia police arrested the vandal. >> supporters came and put a blanket. >> i came down to cover it up. >> it defines year of discrimination. we spotted a man placing trash and litter at his feet. rizzo's supporters say he was firm and fair. >> vandalism is a terrible thing. i understand people's viewpoints

victims revently graduated. police say the two had just left an event when they were aproched by an armed man. it is unclear if there was some kind of exchange of words. one person is in custody in connection with the incident. the mayor of charlottesville will make an announcement at the sent center of what has become a nationwide controversy. last weekend white supremacists protests the plan to have the statue taken down. heather heyer was killed and

injured three dozen others. a trooper killed in a hospit helicopter crash. trooper bates and cullin were killed when they crashed a few miles away from charlottesville. the cause of the crash remains under investigation overnight crews removed the statue. he is the supreme court justy by wri justice that denied citizenship. in philadelphia taney street and taney field are named after him. several petitions are circulating to rename all of

them. malcolm jenkins says he will continue to protest the national anthem. this was last night. it was eagles home opener. jenkins began making the gesture to demonstrate against the deadly police shooting of unarmed black men. he and his teammates criticized trump for the racist violence. long is from charlottesville. he did not hold up his fist during the anthem but he did put his arm around jenkins. >> i'm saying i'm here. i support his right to protest and people fighting for equality. >> low income and community of color have different interaction with the system than that of our counter part. you know, in the light of everything that's happening, just continuing that

conversation. >> he has openly supported colin kaepernick who protested by kneeling instead of standing. a dreary day. the temperatures have been climbing in philadelphia. they are rising faster at the shore. this is where we are seeing breaks at the shore. the crowd is growing. i can't rule out a shower or thunderstorm. more likely the storms will hold off in the the evening hours. look at those temperatures. 85 in cape may. 85 at cape may point. 79 and ocean water temperatures are running warmer. inland the temperatures are climbing for delaware and philadelphia. 80 degrees and close to 80 degrees in the lehigh valley. clouds are hanging in there. we could see some breaks of

sunshine. we are likely to see more storms later today. the first round of storms in the lehigh county were from 2 to 3 inches of rain. more rain on top of that this afternoon could lead to flash flooding. that's not the only part of the area that has gotten pretty good rainfall. look at burlington into south jersey. more than an inch of rain. closer to 2 inches in southern burlington county. the radar and satellite show heavy downpours moving through the area. it is coming down at a rate over 2.5 inches per hour. it will accumulate quickly. most of the area is dry. you could see the sunshine breaking through cape may. the wet weather that's moving in for this afternoon is slowly making progress coming our way. it is going to be turning stormy this afternoon. at 2:00 storms make it into the lehigh valley.

slow moving storms and potentially damaging winds. heavy rain showing up on this future cast. it is moving through the suburbs into the philadelphia area. it shifts into new jersey at 7:00 this evening. there is more wet weather that will be rolling through the evening hours. it's not until 11:00 tonight that things start to settle down and that finally moves offshore overknig overnight tonight. it is from the 2:00 period into 11:00 this afternoon. it will be clearing out for the weekend. sunshine for saturday. high temperatures in the upper 80s. the humidity is so steamy today will be coming down during the day on saturday. it will be a bit muggy in the morning but low humidity on sunday with plenty of sunshine. it means it's perfect weather for clear the shelters.

terror in spain. it was in connection with a pair of terror attacks. none of the men had backgrounds linked to terrorism. the latest happened in cambrils. four of the suspected were killed by the same officer. barcelona and cambrils are about 50 miles apart. they are investigating a third -- the explosion killed at least one person. they found 30 canisters of gas inside. witnesses say they are lucky to be alive. today people left flowers an paid their respects on the

street where the attack happened. 13 people were killed and 100 before injured. witnesses described the chaotic scene. >> i heard screams. i turned around and looked. i was seeing like an avalanche of hundreds of people starting to run. >> other witnesses described people around them in tears making phone calls to loved ones. barcelona with a minutes of silence to honor the victims. the crowd gathered as spain's prime minister lead the tribute. on twitter he said that the meeting was to analyze the latest details of the attacks. the prime minister says the fight is a global battle and europe's main problem. according to the vatican pope francis is worried and is thinking of the victims and their families.

police and soldiers as thousands of tourists wand wandered the facility. she joining us now by phone. as we were talking about in our last half hour and as we have been seeing and hearing in reports, many tourists are still arriving in barcelona coming in not deterred by this terrorism. >> that is absolutely true. i was really surprised. even on our flight there weren't that many empty seats. i was sitting next to a couple who had survived the september 11th attacks. now they live in new jersey. they were heading to barcelona. that couple was actually in the

cafe next to where the car plowed through a group of pedestrians. you know, that couple that was on their way to new jersey, they are traveling with two of their kids. i asked them, did you ever think about saying no, we are not going to do it? the couple said no. this is becoming too common. they didn't want to be intimidated. that was the number one thing that i heard from countless people at the airport. i spoke with another family from delaware also traveling with young children that said they didn't even think twice about coming to barcelona. they wanted to be with their family and they wanted to go on living the way they do. they did say that and they did try to explain what was happening and how it was best to stay close to each other so that they stay in touch, not wander off. they were sad they even had to have that conversation with

chester county. a little bit of sunshine is starting to breakthrough in the reading area. it is only going to help heat things up. it is heating up in spite of the clouds that are with us. the showers are moving on. you can see thunderstorm activity in ocean county. in the next round of wet weather is in the far away. it is just to the west of burkes county. it will be moving in during the early afternoon hours and then the heavy weather as we go through the day, this is a cosl moving cold front. it is a slow mover. it will take all afternoon and through much of the evening for this to make it through the area. it will be coming through the area with some potential for heavy downpours. look at the heavy rain moving in. that rain will be on the move. we could see close to an inch of rain. downpours will quickly rack up

the rainfall by 11:00 tonight. more than 2 inch is possible to the south in dover. well over an inch there. more than an inch and a half. we could see totals higher than that as some of the slow moving storms end up going over the areas that have already seen rainfall. that is potential into new jersey especially. the severe weather threat with damaging winds and heavy rains. downpours with winds possibly gusting to damaging levels of more than 60 miles per hour this afternoon. the good news is it moves out for the weekend. as steamy as it is today we'll see improving conditions for saturday, sunday and monday. the humidity comes down and we'll see lots of sunshine and a nice clear view on monday for the solar i clieclipse. temperatures will be at 84 degrees when it starts by 244 when it peaks in the afternoon.

it is 86 degrees. may see it come down with that eclipse in the afternoon. until we get there steamy weather for today. 88 degrees for this afternoon. stormy conditions for today. drying out for tomorrow and lots of sunshine and a warm weekend. plenty of sunshine on monday too. the steamy weather is back on tuesday, however. 91 on tuesday afternoon. a chance of showers and thunderstorms on wednesday. that's another cold front. it will have more impact on our temperatures. thursday temperatures in the low 80s. look at the temperatures for friday and saturday. we'll be right back.
