you plan to watch &'s solar eclipse. right now, at 11:00, up in flames. damaging storms roll through our region tonight knocking down power lines and sparking this fire in southier si. good evening. i'm jim rosen feld. that's some of the damage by the storms. chester county, this tree came crashing down on bell ve deer circle. and take a look at this. a car just stuck there under water. nbc 10 viewer sent in a picture of the station in bucks county. fire crews tell us several cars had to be towed from the area tonight. in new jersey, two weather elements kind of collided here. watch the right side of your screen as lightning flickers across this rainbow. let's slow it down for you to see it again maybe. the bright flash came after the storms cleared up this evening. nbc 10 first alert meteorologist

eric erica martin is tracking the storms. >> we are done, jim. this is the one-hour loop. we can see everything clearing offshore. we are not seeing watches, warnings, advisory. these are remnant showers moving off of the jersey shore. i want to touch on what you talked about. the damage reports, we talked about at it at 4:00, 5:00 and 6:00. several downed trees. really strong gusts for new castle county and kent county, as well. right now what we are tracking are the remnants of those showers across our area and big story for today, how strong those storms were. those line of storms. and now, the great news is, jim, we are preparing for a fantastic weekend with plenty of sunshine. so coming up, in just a bit, of course, i have your weekend outlook. back the you. >> all right. well'll see you soon. now the latest on the terror in spain. police made several arrests in connection with two deadly attacks there and still looking

for other members of a suspected terrorist cell behind the carnage. investigators believe a terrorist network had deadlier plans. two u.s. senior intelligence officials say the attackers planned to build a truck bomb in barcelona but when the bomb making fact ri exploded two days ago, they went low tech. police detained at least four people in connection with the attacks and isis is claiming responsibility. philadelphia international airport, this afternoon, emotional reunions as travelers returned from spain. this woman embracing her friend. another woman described to us the chaos she witnessed. >> we were on a bus. like one of the tour buses. and you just see the children running. >> what was that like for you? >> it was horrible. like people texting me i had no idea and where are you? you could have got killed. i'm happy to be home. >> an american was among the 13 people killed in that van

attack, 42-year-old jared tucker here of california was celebrating a first wedding anniversary with his wife heidi. she was pushed out of the way and her husband was in the direct path of the terror. nbc 10 sent a team of journalists from philadelphia to bars will that yesterday. i rice delgado from our sister station has the latest on the mood of the city. >> reporter: it is well past midnight here in spain. we remain atlas ramblas in front of this very emotional vigil. people have come and gone through the last past hours and they've stayed here crying, praying, meditating, simply just showing support for the victims of this tragedy. all of this as the city slowly progresses to getting back to normal. some of the roads have been reopened to traffic. and businesses, they're open. however, slow. people have simply come here to

here at home, police remain on guard tonight for vandals who have been targeting the frank rizzo statue in center city. a live look. officers arrested the man that spray painted black power on the statue last night but the debate continues over the future in philadelphia and nbc 10's brandon hudson is live in center city. are officers still out there tonight? >> reporter: jim, police left within the hour. they were watching for vandals and it appears that there's a different kind of crowd here at the frank rizzo statue. it is quite a week for the statue behind me. it's been egged, spray painted and spit on and noticed tonight that more people are coming out here with the phones and taking pictures with the statue. the longer people debate the future of the frank rizzo statue -- >> wanted to get over here. >> reporter: -- the more high profile it is. >> i'm happy to share it. >> reporter: the watson family of south jersey did late night

especially around issues of freedom, liberation, fighting racism. >> reporter: at last check, the man who spray painted the rizzo statue in jail on $25,000 bond. reporting live, brandon hudson, nbc 10 news. hundreds gathered in phoenixville, chester county tonight at a rally for peace and equality coming in the wake of charlottesville, virginia, last weekend. a moment of silence for heather hoyer killed when a white supremacist drove his car in a crowd of counter protests. steve bannon has come to the end of the road as president trump's chief strategist. the conservative news website says bannon is back as the executive chairman and let an editorial meeting tonight. bannon left more than a year ago to join mr. trump's campaign. bannon's departure brings to a close a rocky tenure in the west

ringleader in the $28 million scheme and faces up to 10 years in prison. police in camden county help you track down a burglar with a bike helmet. here he is in video only on nbc 10. the crook used a crowbar to break into a heating and air conditioning company and made off with $2,000 of stolen merchandise. police say before that he stole this cadillac from a car dealer. well, powerball fever spreading across the country and the region tonight. tomorrow night's jackpot up to whopping $535 million. and as you might expect, ticket sales are up. we saw dozens of potential future millionaires picking up their tickets in mt. laurel today. we'll have the winning numbers for you tomorrow night on nbc 10 news at 11:00. a life saving decision caught on camera. how this new jersey state trooper came to the rescue after a woman stopped breathing on the side of a highway.

new jersey state trooper may have saved the life of a woman with a medical emergency on the garden state parkway. all captured on the dash cam yesterday afternoon. the trooper pulled over to check on this van in middle township, cape may township, realizing the 70-year-old joan murphy wasn't breathing and revived her with cpr right there on the shoulder of this busy road. murphy's in the hospital tonight and told she is doing okay.

dangerous rip currents could leave you beached at the shore this weekend. lifeguards logged more than 120 rescues in atlantic city alone this week. one of those rescues on mississippi avenue beach thursday night. the lifeguard on after hours patrol spotted two people struggling in the water. authorities say the mother was on the beach at the time. lifeguards left the regular posts for the day. >> underneath of the water, unsafe for the kids. >> swimming while we're off duties plain stupid. i can't put it any other way. >> authorities believe beach replenishment projects are partially to blame and the army corps of engineer said they didn't see any evidence linking the two. the countdown is on to the event of the summer. monday's total solar ellipse and already an oregon city can't quite eclipse the traffic backup as thousands of vehicles head

there to witness history. in our area, the eclipse has a local hospital emergency on high alert and they're getting the word out so you don't end up there. drew smith live to explain. drew? >> reporter: jim, this should be a fun event at the franklin institute. they're advertising the programming for monday. but today it was busy inside the gift shop with people clearing out the entire inventory of those special glasses. tonight, this is just one of many places sold out. >> not good. good. >> reporter: retina surgeon showed us the difference of regular sunglasses and special solar eclipses. >> can you see anything? >> me either. >> they're specially approved. you can find the rating on the side and you will want to double check. amazon warned customers about fake glasses that don't meet standards. important because they block the dangerous rays of the sun. >> just a few seconds, you can get permanent damage. >> reporter: it does happen.
