scene of this morning's crash. the ntsb provided its first update less than an hour ago. among the information we have learned, videofrom the crash is on its way to washington. the train cars cannot be inspected right now because of how they are parked. and the total number of people hurt now stands at 33. all are expected to survive. we have live team coverage. mitch blacher is in center city where federal investigators gave that update a short time ago. >> we begin with live in upper darby. you spoke to people having second thoughts about riding the rails. >> we did. some just say they are not going to take it anymore. speaking of that train, since it crashed, it's been sitting here behind me. as soon as this train goes by, you'll see where it's been since the crash.

>> the train on the high speed line collided with a parked train. >> they need to get something straighten out. we find out what's going on. some aren't worrying. >> i'm not worried about it. i'm quite sure they'll get it together. >> septa told nbc 10 the high speed line has automatic train control which slows or stops if the engineer fails to follow speed limits. >> there's stop measures that could be put in and slow down as it's coming in. >> the mayor says he'd like to see the safety measures upgraded to positive train control to help prevent accidents like this in the future. >> i'm going to be pushing to see if we can do something for the safety of the rails. >> we spoke to riders getting on and off that norristown line. some said they won't be riding it anymore, but others don't have a choice. they told us it's really their means of transportation. we're reporting live, steven

fisher, nbc 10 news. our coverage continues now with nbc 10's mitch blacher live in center city. >> the ntsb told us where the investigation stands. still so many questions. >> reporter: the ntsb spent most of its day in upper darby but came here to the marriott to brief us, which happened moments ago. here's what we know right now. the.n ntsb says there is video from two on board cameras that show that accident. that video is on its way washington, d.c. for analysis. we also learn ed that investigators have not been able to get a a full look at the damage because they can't get underthe rail cars. what they have seen so far shows some buckling on the floor of that car as soon as the cars are taken to the rail yard a recorder will be pulled so that should reveal the speed factor. one of the main questions that we asked was about automatic train control.

that's the train slowing safety system that's supposed to prevent a train from overspeeding. investigators say that's now a major focus of their investigation. >> the line just has signals and right now our is signal investigator just arrived. he's going to be looking into that. he's going to be looking into the complete functioning of the signal system the whole protection it provides and whether it was functioning properly. >> the ntsb says more of its investigators are still on the way. one who just arrived as you just heard is that expert on autom automatic train control who will review the system and make sure it was operating as it should have been they are not ruling anything out or willing to commit that speed was a factor. mitch blacher, nbc 10 news. new information this evening about a fugitive wanted for a murder on the main line. today u.s. marshals arrested

derek rollins georgia. he's suspected of shooting and killing john lee last month. more than 750 miles from the township. they found him at an apartment complex there this morning. investigators believe rollins shot lee as the victim left a pizza shop back in late july. the random killing shocked the community. police say it came an hour after rollins fired 20 shots a the two other men e in the overbrook section. now to an approaching weather threat. a steamy day is giving way to what's shaping up to be a stormy night for parts of the area. you can see the storms moving this wayen op the radar. potentially severe weather will

become the focus. our weather team has issued a first alert for tonight. >> let's get to meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz for the timing of those storms and who can expect to see them. >> these are the areas in order of severity, the likelihood of severe weather. lehigh valley and berks county, top of the list. >> new jersey and delaware lower threats because of the time of day. 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. by the time the storms get into delaware and south jersey they should be much weaker. possible damaging winds, frequent lightning, small hail and a severe thunderstorm watch in effect for that area except for philadelphia and delaware county until midnight tonight. for the potential, some severe storms. certainly have been some in western pennsylvania. there's been reports of wind damage here. that's a pretty impressive line.

there's a lot of lightning with it. but it's still 200 miles away from philadelphia. so it's got a long way to go. that little red thing up there is a tornado warning for part of north central pennsylvania. if you time out this line, it's moving at about 50 miles an hour. it still will be after 10:00 tonight before it got to philadelphia. and may not be quite moving at 50 miles per hour right now. a little slower than it was. these are the areas getting hit the hardest. we'll see everybody getting relief from the heat. >> download the app to get alerts for your neighborhood. sky force 10 is live over breaking news in gloucester township. firefighters faced tough conditions battling a house fire in that heat. you can see one of the firefighters on the roof.

that house went up in flames a little while ago. the fire is under control. we're told a lot of the firefighters asked for water. you can understand that because it's so hot out there. the good news here no injuries were reported. now to new developments for bill cosby and his retooled legal team. cosby walked into the montgomery county courthouse this morning and walked out knowing his trial would be delayed. that retrial, a judge granted a trial to push it back to the spring. >> there's still a lot of things to figure out. that was back in june. that was back in 2004. prosecutors say they are ready for the retrial. >> we are confident in our case

and the evidence. >> one legal expert told us today a jury from our area may not react well to the out of town and popular legal team cosby has assembled. >> today navy divers searching a compartment of the john mccain made a grim discovery. they found remains of some of the ten sailors missing after the collision between a warship and oil tanker. one of the missing crew members has ties to our area. one friend tells us he always wanted to go into the navy to follow in his father's footst s footsteps. in a statement, smith's father thanked people for their concern and prayers as he awaits word on his son. the first appointment of fresh american forces will arrive soon in afghanistan. that word from the top commander for the middle east. it could take a few days or a few weeks. the announcement follows

president trump's address when he recommitted america to the 16-year war in afghanistan. for a rally of his campaign days, he will visit a border patrol facility and meet with security officials there and military members. the white house says the trip is meant to highlight the president'ses to secure the border. the search for the sailors continues with "nbc nightly news" at 6:30. >> police in northeast philadelphia are looking for those responsible for toppling more than two dozen headstones. you see them right there. sky force 10 was over the scene at st. lukes memorial in northeast philadelphia. more than 400 people are buried there. the church was built back in 1861. sky force 10 over the scene of a police chase that ended in a crash in southwest philadelphia. that started around 2:00 at cedar avenue. it all ended in philadelphia on belmar street. police were responding to a

stolen car. officers never found the driver. exciting news for fans of a time-honored sports tradition. the army and navy game will be played here five of the next six years. >> a live look at lincoln financial field. philadelphia officials announced today that the city will be the site of the game for the next three years and again in 2022. the cadets and shipman last faced each other in 2015. phillies hosted the rivalry 86 times. that's more than any other city. it was also announced today that metlife stadium will host the game in 2021. army and navy will square off there on september 11th of that year to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. if you travel in university city, watch out time for students. remember that?

all week the street will be closed between 34th and 38th streets. the closures were on 40th streets. tonight a final steel beam is in place at the newest edition. officials signed for the moin that start hour. the star stands for science, technology and advanced research. it's a high flying event set to attract hundreds of thousands to our area, but there's one popular item you want to leave behind if you plan to attend. the stern warning next on nbc 10 news at 6:00. tracking storms here. after hot and humid day, we're looking for the potential for severe weather in parts of the area. i'll break down the timesing if our first alert forecast.

hundreds of thousands of people expected to pack the beaches of atlantic city tomorrow for one of the resort's biggest events of the year. the ac air show draws big crowds and that will give a midweek boost to the seaside city. pilots took flight for a dress rehearsal. >> bureau reporter ted greenberg

tells us what you definitelien don't want to take tomorrow. >> for her husband and granddaughter, the air show's practice run is just as thrilling as the real thing with far few er people to deal with. >> to take in the sights and enjoy it all without having to get involved with a big crowd. >> indeed many more will be focused on the sky tomorrow. organizers expecting a crowd of about 400,000 people. >> we have a really big screen. we go down past ventor. it's looking like a strong attendance this year. >> the 15th year for the free air show. daryl and his wife haven't missed of them.

>> reporter: for people flying drones or neighboring communities, that ban in place tomorrow from 10:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. >> and arrest the individual who was operating the drone. >> high flying excitement that's prompting a reminder from police to parents about also keeping an eye on their kids. ted greenberg, nbc 10 news. it should be pretty good weather for the show tomorrow. maybe a couple showers in the morning. nice and comfortable in the afternoon. tonight is a different story. we have some issues with thunderstorms. lehigh valley, especially secondary threat in the pa suburbs. and third threat watch covers all of pennsylvania. that's until midnight tonight.

and the first showers are getting into central pennsylvania. but if it continues holding together and tracking to the east, reading after 9:00 and philly closer to 10:30 tonight. so got several hours for that line itself to come in. something develops ahead of the line, we could get at least a shower ahead of that time. as you can see with the latest computer guidance, it comes in late this evening weakening a z it goes through. and that's why the longer we wait, the more likely it is to weaken. but it was still likely to see some showers overnight tonight. don't leave the windows open. and then tomorrow morning we may still have the remnants of that front coming in giving you some showers in delaware and south jersey. so may not be a picture perfect day at the shore tomorrow, but

after that, it's e great. 91 now in philly. we got a high of 92. and the ocean nice 7 degrees out there. feels like close to 100. it did feel like 104 in parts of the area. but nothing like that tomorrow. swanksville at 84. dry weather in all of these places. but showers at the shore especially in the morning hours. once that goes through. that's the end of any rain threat for quite awhile. just incredible weather for the eagles game on thursday night. and the weekend is spectacular. unless you want 90 degree weather and high humidity. in which case you'll be disappointed. highs in the 70s, low humidity. no chance of rain.

and this is across the whole area. to the. temperatures in the other areas, the wind is going to be more out of the west. as we lock through the ten days, thursday, friday, saturday, sunday hardly a a cloud in the sky. monday it's still postally sunny. now we're talking about some clouds coming in. if we're going to get any showers, it will be tuesday to wednesday from a system developing off the coast of florida over the next couple days. that's what we'll be watch iing. we're watching for something a week from fou. it's just going to be incredible starting tomorrow. i'm john clark from csn. how long will starters play thursday night? we're going to hear from carson wentz. and a phillies pitcher is done for the season. highlights, coming up.

showers will cool it off. >> really hot and humid today. feeling like 100. the storms are going to cool us off. they are continuing to head toward the east. berk. s county, lehigh valley get hit with them first. that's later on this evening. and then we could some more showers overnight. but once that goes through, look at the stretch of beautiful weather including the weekend, including the eagles game and even into early next week. it's been a pretty wet summer. but we are seeing a change here starting tomorrow. you'll notice that temperatures way below average. look at the low temperatures. some of them in the 50s.
