what are you learning from police? >> at this point police believe it was accident stal. we do have a lot of questions about how exactly it happened. we saw them carry four rifles out of the home. this morning detectives are still outside the home where a young boy was shot in the face with his family's own revolver. neighbors on this block say it's a tragedy. the 11-year-old can expected to survive. police say it appears he got his hands on his family's handgun. >> we found a large amount of blood on the floor and on the walls. we also did find the gun we have

>> first tell us about campfire fly. what is it and why is it focused on children? why is it so important? children very often don't have a voice for the grief. nurses decided 12 years ago to start this camp for children in burlington county because we saw this need. >> that had been a previous camp and we decided to pick up that task. >> and there are still grieving children out there. >> and you were telling me just a few moments ago you lost your grandfather. >> yes. >> after his passing it was a good place to be going to campfire fly. >> and being with all of the other kids who were my age, some

even younger than me who had been through the same tlihing a me and it was easier to be with a lot of other kids who were like me and it made it easier for me to get through. >> you felt like you had a voice in talking about that? >> yes. >> we had some things to do. >> yes. we went canoeing. we had a bonfire one night. that was really fun. i made lots of friends there too. >> do you keep in touch with them? >> yes. it is sort of incorporating a camp-like atmosphere. there are important lessons for them to learn as they go through the grief process. >> absolutely. we have grief activities. one of the activities we have is making a boat which we will put

police want to know what lead to an 11-year-old child getting shot in the face early this morning. we are live at the scene with new information. >> reporter: police do believe it was an accident. they have a lot of questions about how the 11-year-old boy got ahold of the gun. about 30 minutes ago we spotted detectives bringing out a number of rifles that were inside the

house. police say this 11-year-old boy accidentally shot himself in the face with a revolver. neighbors say it is a horrible accident. they have about four children. some neighbors are concerned how that child got ahold of the firearm in the first place. >> it is scary the child has access to a handgun that isn't locked up. >> i feel horrible for the parent going through that and the child. i can't even imagine. nbc 10 news. >> good news there. thank you. let's get a check of our nbc 10 headlines. we begin with breaking news. family members are mourning a sailor who died following the collision of u.s.s. john mccain.

>> yes. >> my mom is 77 years old. you can imagine what she had to go through. >> a surge in demand. the new jersey hate has no home here chapter tells us it sold 50 signs which is a record for that chapter. police have arrested a man accused of spray painting graffiti throughout coatsville. they say he vandalized a store front of garage and a car as you see with nazi symbols and racist language. there is a town hall meeting. this all comes after someone there spray painted racist graffiti. in other news this morning a jury is in place in the

corruption trial. attorneys have selected six men and six women. he was accused of taking campaign donations in exchange for political influence. that doctor is on trial. opening statements are scheduled for september 6th. a civil rights lawsuit accuses a pittsburgh area school of creating a culture of excessive force. according to the plaintiff it allowed resource officers to shock students with stun guns and body slam them. take a look at this video. the video is from 2009. it shows an officer appearing to slam a student against the locker and hitting him with a stun gun. two others were released back in may. attorneys representing five former students say this is proof of a long-standing problem. >> why wasn't anything ever

done? how could any administrator, anybody in charge, look at those videos and not hold somebody accountable? >> that officer was removed as a school resource officer but remains ton police force. torns for the officer insist it was reasonable for the situation. this shows you how to safely administer narcan. it is in response to the opioid epidemic. it starts in about 20 minutes at the tyler school of arts. one of the top ranked high schools in north jersey d disbanded its football team. the school sites parent safety

social environment was better. it literally changed my life. >> so you're hoping to impart this on other students? >> yes. so art changes lives, period. we cannot afford for them to be eliminated for the lives of our youth. we are all painfully aware. so we are really kind of saying we we are not waiting for the government to do anything. we ourselves have skills and tools and resources. we have the responsibility to pay it forward in the lives of our youth and our own communities through mentor ship, yeah. >> is this going to be district wide in philadelphia or in specific pockets throughout the city? >> it will be all across the city. yes. we are targeting youth between the ages of 8 and 12 and mentors who were artists to be involved in the program. >> so it could be someone who is
