tonight or early tomorrow morning. but the hurricane is already bringing rain to texan tonight. this is a live look at conditions in galveston. over the last few hours, we have seen cars pass. these winds keep getting stronger tonight. here's what we know right now at 6:00. this storm is expected to make landfall 10:00 tonight and 2:00 a.m. tomorrow. it will batter texas with major winds, record setting rainfall and catastrophic flooding. en seven counties are under mandatory e evacuation. 8 million people are under evacuation warnings. here's jay gray with more on victoria, texas. >> reporter: let's take a look at corpus christi. they will get the brunt of hurricane harvey before do. you can see from this overhead picture that it's cloudy and rainy and a bit windy with the

camera shaking at time. as a storm makes landfall, we'll see the worst of it overnight. once it's here, it's likely going to stay for awhile. even before landfall, harvey is already unleashing furry on the texas gulf coast. >> this is a hurricane that will come inland and then it's expected to hover for a long period of time. driving rain and sustained winds of more than 110 miles per hour, it's the strongest storm in almost a half century. >> we could see storm surge between, 10, 12 feet. >> the mideast severe hit from the storm is expected overnight leaving those in the path leaving little time to move to higher ground. >> we're targeted the areas encouraging people in the strongest language to get off the island. in other words just get out of dodge. >> that's what thousands are doing in corpus christy.

>> they are material things. we can always get that back. i'm not willing to risk my child's life. >> the same push is underway where bus loads of people and pets are being shuttled to safety. financially, we don't have the money to take that ride out of town. >> plenty of canned foods and the essentials. >> reporter: bracing as hurricane harvey inches closer to the coast. now the national weather service is forecast calls for 32 inches of rain here over the next several days. that's the latest live from victoria, texas. back to you. >> this is the pass which is about 30 minutes northeast of

corpus christi. you can see the storm here on the first alert radar. the team coverage with erika martin. the storm will make landfall overnight. what's really interesting and intriguing is that the last time we saw a major hurricane make landfall is hurricane wilma back on october 16th, 2005. a category 5 hurricane over 4,000 days ago. so this is how impressive hurricane harvey is right now as a category three. it'sen strengthening as it does make landfall. so what can we expect landfall right around midnight with up to three feet of rain for some. probably more for others. tornado watches and warnings have been issued. we already have reports of tornadoes in galveston. and what i do think will happen here locally in the mid-atlantic

region is we do have a building ridge that will move eastward and that will allow a will the of the moisture to move into our area. that's how hurricane harvey will affect us here locally. coming up, i have more on your weekend forecast. philadelphia rescuers and volunteers are headed south to help with the hurricane. firefighters from philadelphia are part of the national teams being deployed by the government. the red cross has already sta started taking calls from people looking for help. this call center is one of only a handful in the u.s. they will transform into a national call center where as long as mshlg help is needed. the first impact from hurricane harvey we're like to feel will be at the gas pump. a gallon of regular is going for $2.69. that can can still be changing. it's anticipated that refineries among the coast will shut down until harvey passes. that could disrupt gas supplies and cause prices to jump across the country.

members demand answers in the death of david jones. police shot jones. this cell phone video lasted an hour. but people are still talking about the protest. hours ago state representative martina white said it is shocking to me that police commissioner richard ross allowed this illegal occupation to go on for hours without taking any action. white proposed a bill to e release the names of officers involved in shootings after 30 days or a complete investigation. surveillance video from june shows jones shot in the back after a confrontation. jones had a gun and rode around illegally. yesterday a couple protests fired up the president of the

local police union. he said, once you take it to someone's house, they should have been arrested. a protest organizer is a punk who didn't have respect of decent protesters. we got a statement from black lives matter within the hour. e we must love and support one another. live in the breaking news center, brandon hudson, nbc 10 news. a guilty plea from ab ex-philadelphia officer who admitted to giving out drugs for sex. today stanley davis pleaded guilty to federal drug distribution charges. they eventually had sex with both women and gave them heroin and crack. davis is said to be sentenced in december. new details on a story we have been following since nbc 10 news at 4:00. nine people are being held after a smokey fire ripped through the

apartment building in cherry hill. 15 fire crews were called in to fight that fire. they are now saying they probablien won't be able to salvage anything. >> my boyfriend called me and your whole apartment is on fire. i was like, oh. and that's when i left work i came here and saw the damage. i lost everything. >> one woman is being treated for smoke inhalation. there was an explosion in the back of the building and it could have come from the deck. if you live in this area, you might have the power now. crews are working to fix that. a new law went into effect today here in pennsylvania. first time drunk drivers could now be forced to have interlock ignition devices put on their cars. the legal blood alcohol limit in pennsylvania is .08. but if you're a first time offender and it's .10 or higher, you'll have to lose your license or have to use ab interlock

that's going to keep everything really where it is positioned. this is why in one moment when i show you hurricane harvey is going to behave, it's going to meander right around the texas shoreline right around the gulf coast. conditions are definitely going to be nasty for the next several days. 10 miles per hour northwesterly. and the central pressure is 941 milliba millibars. you at home might not unthat, but 943 means this is getting a lot stronger. that's what i want to explain to you at home. as we continue hurricane harvey and track it for the next couple days, i'm going to go through wednesday at 1:00 p.m. 40 miles per hour sustained wind speeds. this is still considered a tropical storm. so a lot of punch here packed into this hurricane. so here is the expansiveness of

the system. the width of the circulation is over 600 miles. that means it's wider than twice the size of the width of pennsylvania. now locally, a live look outside. we see some fair weather clouds. a great evening for us here and temperatures are really mild, really comfortable, not very humid at all. i say ideal for a friday evening. wilmington current temperatures 78 degrees. and the winds are variable. your neighborhood planner, notice how we're seeing clearing skies through the overnight hours. a little chilly for some. tomorrow at 5:00 a.m., 64 degrees. not bad for that morning run. by 1:00 a.m., 62 degrees. 5:00 a.m., 59 degrees. keep the jackets and sweaters handy. i know i will. lehigh valley, mostly clear skies. 58 degrees at 5:00 a.m.
