two women are wanted by the fbi for trying to rob a bank in these outfits. right now at eleven. harveys wrath. the tropical storm making its mighty presence felt again across southeast texas. bringing historic flooding and threatening to cause more damage into next week. good evening i'm jim rosenfield. >> i'm jacqueline london. the storm is moving back out in the gulf. round two could be coming soon for millions of people in its path. the storm has been blamed for at least seven deaths so far. more than 3,000 people have been rescued by police. including a thousand in the last ten hours. texas and louisiana will face record rainfall in and flooding until at least the lay br day weekend. right now around 290,000 people are without power. nbc10 national correspondent has latest from houston.

>> reporter: the rain keeps falling. nearly three feet in some areas. and there's concern. it's going to get worse. resources have already been stretched to their limits. response teams deployed across the city have pulled 2,000 to safety just today. lurking from the air. and on the water. hundreds of volunteers using their own boats and neighborhood swallowed by the flood waters. some going door to door to find those trapped inside their homes. >> i'm not staying. i want to leave now. but we didn't know how to get out. >> reporter: any vehicle that can cut through the water and carry survivors to higher ground is being pressed into action. >> these guys are heros to me. they came and we're out the situation. >> reporter: tens of thousands are now filling area shelters. >> such a relief to have a place to go. i felt really comfortable being

last. >> reporter: with flood waters covering neighborhoods the needs for so many start with getting to safety. but the needs will grow. >> the call came down this morning that yes indeed we're going to pull the trigger. >> the salvation army in philadelphia sending the first of its crews. focusing on emotional and spiritual help. disaster services director sfwl they're going through the highs being rescued. absorbing what's going on. some point in time that will change and the reality sets in. >> reporter: while the salvation army is mobilizing its response on ground. remembering research lost after hurricane sandy and katrina. offering his lab to those who need it. >> taking care of animals for you. if that means sending a student so they don't have to lose progress on their thesis.

moisture in. it's not over dry land. this is not a good thing. it's still fairly stationary. it's kicking up a lot of rain near alexandria and lake charles. gal ve ston to houston again under the gun for the heavy rain. it's shy of houston. south of houston where the heaviest rains are. in the last six hours we have seen five inches of rain. lake charles has about 8 and a half inches of rain there. and nothing but watches and warnings along the gulf coast from houston to new orleans. we'll talk about where this is headed and when we may see some of the rain from this. and a system that could be called ir ma before the night is over. >> doesn't know when they'll be able to return home. >> we live in the first -- that's right after this.

>> burling ton county native and her daughter came to town before the storm hit. roads in the neighborhood are flooded. homes have been torn apart. >> it's never been this bad. we have never been flooded in our neighborhood. i had no idea we would thot be able to get back. >> the family is looking on the bright side. so far they have heard of new injuries in their hometown and of course they hope it stays that way. two people who survived hurricane sandy are. after a 60 foot oak tree toppled on their old house in sandy. another survivor lives in a neighborhood just outside houston. he says he's been through this before. >> feels like it's almost following me. these big events. but sandy prepared me dramatically for this event. >> it's unbelievable that the rain is still coming down.

six years behind bars. tonight, unprecedented storm in texas. harvey continues to dump historic rainfall and flooding forcing hundreds o of thousands into shelters. >> jay gray is live in houston. jay i know you have been covering this storm for days now. what can you tell us tonight as we continue o hear the rain? >> yeah, it is coming to the end of a third day of driving rain in the houston area. the flood waters continue to climb in the storm still far from over. in fact forecasters saying we could see this rain continue for at least two more days here in the amount of rain we have seen could double by the time this is all said and done. dozens of neighborhoods in the houston area are under water. in fact we were drifen out of one neighborhood by the water today. climbing so quickly we had to move to higher ground. there's an issue with shelters here. people getting to them is

difficult because of the water in the area. and they're starting to fill up. what the mayor today said is as well as the police chief is they're going to have to find room for more because they expect more evacuations to come in the coming days. they evacuated more than 3,000 yet. again more than 3,000 today. they opened up the convention center in downtown houston as a shelter here. and there's a megashelter in dallas. four hours away. they're urging people to drive the distance. >> so much uncertainty and fear. but the helping hands of so many. nbc10 traveled to houston today for the firsthand look of the damage sdp destruction. earlier today he went along with volunteers who came in from austin, texas with their boat. to help those left stranded in flood waters. randy will have more live from houston tomorrow. >> right now tracking irma. another tropical system heading

our way that will bring rain to the region. >> tammie souza is timing out this storm for us. >> i'm going to time them both out. we could see rain from both before the weekend hits. let's look at what's going on. once again with harvey down here along the gulf coast. it's drenching houston right now 45 miles per hour winds moving east southeast. it's over water. pulling more water and rain in across the houston area rmt look at what happens. it will make another land fall up along the texas and louisiana border. and then it's going to shoot up across the country perhaps through the midwest. you notice this giant cone could be any where in there. it could actually be arking towards us to bring clouds maybe rain by the time we get into the weekend flt we'll have to keep an eye on that. that could mean umbrellas for the holiday weekend. then we switch gears off the carolina coast. 35 miles per hour winds.

disorganized but there's the potential for this to be the next named storm. all of this moisture will be flooding up the coastline. what's interesting is you take a look it's way back here, south of where most of the moisture is that we see the area of low pressure. it's pulling the moisture in and up along the coastline. charleston moving up through wilmington we're watching for period of heavy rain and winds. you notice the pockets of much heavier rain just off norfolk and look at this, we get up here into southern delaware we could be looking at pockets of heavy rain by the time that we get into tomorrow night. even philadelphia could see rain before this system simply arcs out into the ocean. it's not going to make a direct land fall for anybody. but the question is how much rain is going to push this far north for us. so let's go ahead and let's take a look at the hour by hour. an on shore flow tomorrow. very chilly out there temperatures generally in the 60s. look what happens by 8:30 a.m.

rain already crossing the area. we see perhaps heavyerer rain tomorrow and afternoon before the system is gone. with e get to the winds coming from the north and northwest. which is going to be a mild air mass for us. so we'll actually dry out and get back to perhaps sop 80s by the time we get into thursday. that's very good news for us there. take a look at how much rain we could see from this. maybe in delaware and jersey shore. upwards of an inch and a half and two inches of rain. your ten day on ten looks something like this. it is going to be bluster and soggy tomorrow. cooler. 69 with some wind out there. 78 on wednesday. 83 on thursday. friday at this point looks dry. but saturday and sunday those are the days we could see the remnants of harvey coming our way. before at this point what looks like a nice dry labor day holiday. back to you. armed bank robbery caught on camera. but it's the suspects outfits that are turning heads.
