you can hear the shear force of irma's 185 mile per hour winds as the storm pounded st. martin. right now it's not clear how much damage is left behind, but it is believed to be significant. let's take a live picture from st. croix where you can see cloudy skies, choppy surf out there and irma approaches. >> we have new video from u.s. vir gin islands. palm e trees bend in the wind. you can hear that wind. meteorologist tammie souza is here with the storm's latest path. >> we just got the update. it's not a lot different, but it's a little more clear. it's just move iing to the nort approaching puerto rico. it's not going to make landfall with the eye on the north shore. nonetheless, they will feel the storm force winds. it's moving past the virgin islands and you can see how e enormous this eye is. a lot of these islands will fit in the eye. a picture mosted on our facebook

page that shows the middle of the eye. and here's why. imagine this. we're going to do a comparison. this is the category 5 hurricane with winds about 185 miles per hour extending outward 50 miles from the center. then they turn into lesser winds all the way outç to the site. so imagine you're right here and you're enduring that. you're not doing it like a tornado. that would be an ef-4. maybe a weak ef-5 if there's such a thing. that moves by very quickly. it's through. but imagine that you are now having to endure thoeds winds for 30 or 60 minutes as this slowly passes by. now yacnot only get them coming but you get them going. that's a comparison. as to the power of this and what you would have to fwo through standing in a tornado for 30 to

60 minutes. that's pretty much what these folks have had to go through in parts of the islands and approaching puerto rico. now right now, 185 mile an hour winds moving west to northwest at 16 miles per hour. the pressure has dropped. it's 9:14 so it's intensifying. i thought it would be doing an eye wall change, but that hasn't happened. as it approaches cuba as it passes into the straits of florida, then perhaps weakening right up along miami. the latest track takes it right up along the east coast of florida. and perhaps into either georgia or south carolina and that would be early on monday morning. this is a very latest track. but anywhere in this huge cone is a possibility and this is going to shift a little before it approaches. >> tonight first respond es from our area are preparing to head to florida and assist with irma. >> new at 5:00, erin is live

nemeeting with employees from a electric company. this crew has a large task ahead of them. >> everything you see around me is headed to florida to fight irma. tonight i'm told all of these workers will leave in two different waves starting just about right now within the hour. also again around 9:00. folks from as far as washington and oregon on the west coast will be coming here to go fight irma. talking to local first responders from national guard members to firefighters to the red cross, it seems like everyone is getting ready. for olivia meyers, heading into the unknown can be unsettling, but she's ready for the challenges. >> i was very nervous today coming in. everybody has treated me well. erbe takes care of you here. >> reporter: the search and rescue dog are working hurricane

disaster relief. now 40 other first responders are headed to maxwell air force base in alabama for staging. >> we want to help out. >> from alabama these men and women will be sent to the hardest hit areas in florida. nbc 10 was there with them as they came to the aid of strand stranded victims. >> they want to be where they are needed. that's what e we think. they did a lot of work.

tim will be joined by christian as we cover hurricane irma. find their reports on air and on the nbc 10 app. we're following breaking news out of delaware county. the past few minutes, a woman says she was tied up inside her own home. drew smith is live in upper darby. what have you learned. >> reporter: detectives are taking photographs inside the house. we spoke to some shocked neighbor who is heard the loud cries for help and called 911. they had to call back because they said they were just too long they were hearing these loud cries for help. one of the neighbors got a chance to tack to the women after police entered.

she was helped into an b ambulance. men had tied her up before running out the back-door. >> i could hear it from here. help, help, help, somebody help leez. she was screaming. >> reporter: i got called into police for more information about how the men got into the home. the neighbor said the women appeared to be walking her unow power but did go to the hospital for treatment. >> we have more breaking news to get to now out of north philadelphia. the video you're about to see into the newsroom happened moments ago where police are investigating a shooting. a man was shot several times in the chest and rushed to the hospital. he's in critical condition. so far there are no arrests. we are going to work to get you that video as soon as we can. in the meantime, we're going to turn to local weather. gray skies and more rain is

expected on and off throughout the night. chief meteorologist tammie souza is back with a look at your neighborhood and what you could expect. >> umbrellas and ugly shoes because we have had rain today and still have rain on the way. it's slowly moving eastward. so charlestown and westchester, you're looking at steadier showers. all of this is going to spread toward philadelphia in the next several hours. they with us through much of the evening and into early tomorrow morning before 8:00 in the morning. you can see the general motion up north with a little bit of a jog east. there's some lightning out th e there. we're not expecting storms like last night. here's the main body of the storm system. the center of this low spinning around counterclockwise across the great lakes region. it's not going anywhere because it's blocked by the high pressure in the atlantic ocean

over here. that's the same steering mechanism for hurricane irma. it just keeps going west because it's stuck under the high. so we'll continue to watch this as the evening progressings. we'll talk more about what's going on with irma. nbc 10 is looking for answers in the cases of two sexual assaults where women were targeted while exercise iing. the first happened on august 1st. a woman was attacked while jogging. the most recent happened late sunday night. a wosm was forced into her car and drin to another location where she was sexual ly assaulted. deanna durante is live tonight. some neighbors had no idea a predator was out there. >> they didn't hear anything or see anything. it's to have happened on a residential street, but

investigators have released photographs of a car they believe was driven through a lower providence intersection the night of the crime. the photos are grainy. just before 12:30 monday morning, it was a short time before that picture was snapped that a woman was walking on lantern lane alone sunday night. she reported she was grabbed, forced into the car asknd drive to the industrial park. residents say they knew little about the assault. one l we talked to have lived here for 30 years. there's never been any major crime reported here. >> that activity may be limited for now. police there have been investigating a sexual assault

of a jogger. back on august 1st, a woman was sexually assaulted after being grabbed by a man armed with a gun. there's a $10,000 reward for information lead iing to the suspect arrest there. >> they spoke with an accent that shed as being from the k b caribbean. investigators are looking for information in both of these cases. if you know anything, you're asked to call police. reporting live, deanna durante shs nbc 10 news. >> we're learning new details about a murder mystery in south jersey. >> we have learned the fbi is offering a $25,000 reward in the case. cydney long is at the scene gathering new information right now. she'll have a live report coming up. plus a warning to always look out when in a parking lot.

new details about a murder of a temple woman. nbc obtained police documents related to the death of jenna buehrle. her grandfather found the body inside a total in a shed on a property. police say buehrle left a north philadelphia bar together last thursday. investigators say he killed buehrle. then brought the body to his mother's house. he's now charged with murder. a cold-blooded killer, that's how prosecutors describe a man charged with murder. the 24-year-old was arraigned. he randomly target ed a 28-year-old as the victim was walking to the apartment. he faces charges in another

murder. >> the husband of a radio show host has been indicted on unrelated weapons charges. james kaufman is charged with two counts of possessing handguns without perlts. he was arrested in june and they purr sueded him to b surrender. they are fou linked to the murder of april kaufman killed in 2012. back to our continuing coverage of hurricane irma. the category 5 storm is 55 miles away from san juan, puerto rico. the potentially catastrophic storm moving closer and closer to the u.s.land with every passing moment. >> the first strike overnight on the island of barre bu da.

sheets of rain and wind gusts of at least 155 miles per hour as hurricane irma chewed through the virgin islands toward puerto rico leaving destruction and flooding in its wake. the storm now considered the strongest on record in the atlantic. a massive monster of a storm on a collision course with florida. >> the storm is bigger, faster and stronger than hurricane andrew. the storm of this size could have statewide and everybody should be repaired. >> evacuations are underway in the florida e keys. and millions across the state are heeding the dire warnings boarding up and stocking up. some stations temporarily out of gas. >> it's getting low. >> reporter: stores and the governor promising more is on the way. >> supplies should be

area. a live look from our nbc 10 camera at the lincoln south philly. it was a rainy day today and it's a gloomy night out there. down the shore in cape may, definitely not a day for the beach. what can we expect as we head into the night hours? >> we'll see showers. you'll need the umbrella. we have showers that are out there. you can see all of this activity. it is moving off to the north and the east. it's going to continue to do so moving in that direction. a lot faster than it is actually moving eastward. it's got that northward flow. that's actually pretty much the direction that it's going in so i'm going to zoom in and show you who is getting the heaviest shower activity. rattner if. we go up here, pottstown, you can see pretty much spreading across the area. a lot of chester county and even into parts of degetting some shower activity right now.

and some of these are going to be steadier showers like we saw early this morning. so we'll continue to watch all of this press off to the north of us and slide eastward across philadelphia. we still are watching this whole system spin in place. which tells me these showers will be with us periodically all night long and maybe early tomorrow morning because they are blocked by what's going on in the atlantic. so it's all sort of lined up and all these parts are fitting together. tomorrow is going to be a day that we're going to be in the low to mid-70s. about 10 degrees below where we should be. so comfortable, but a little cooler than normal. we will see some sunshine and a mix of sun and clouds. any showers will be early in the

morning. that would be the center of the low pressure swinging by. they want to do that on friday. i'm not sure if it's going to happen. . be prepared. we'll see a mix of sun and clouds on friday. and sunshine returns for saturday and sunday. then we watch for the remnants of irma to head our way perhaps the middle of next week. let's take a look at this system. it's still 185 mile an hour winds. the pressure has dropped to 914. it's moving off to the west. but now we have two more hurricanes to talk about. jose out here very weak. it's going to take almost the same path as irma, but much smaller and much less organized. it's going to become fish food. if you look way over here in the bay, if you look over here along the mexican gulf coast. that's where you're probably going to see katya. it's just become a hurricane with 75 mile an hour winds. that's going to make landfall on

atlantic ocean. the storm continues to churn right towards puerto rico. and chief meteorologist tammie souza has the latest on the track. since yesterday the track has shifted to the east. >> it has shifted to the east making the turn a little harder. the models are not in complete agreement. the eye is moving to the north of puerto rico. it moved over some of the islands. there's a picture on our website and social media. the whole island is sitting in this eye. so we're watching continuing off to the west. you can see the outflow is impressive. this is a huge storm. it's nearly a thousand miles when you look at the complete storm structure. that's about the size of texas. and this storm is going to be looking at a track that's going to be similar to the last track. so it is strengthening. it could be should be a category

dead in their apartment in march. six months later, no arrests. within the last hour, the fbi announced a $25,000 reward for information leading to one. tonight authorities are checking out new leads in that case. >> cydney long is live in where more than 30 investigators are out there knocking on doors. >> reporter: that's right. we're told they have 1500 doors to knock on. now that families are home from work, detectives are going door to door with these pam plets. they are asking for new information in the double homicide. also a promise of $25,000 in reward money if their information leads to an arrest and conviction. >> door to door, some 1500 residents of the fox meadow apartments will be asked to jog their memories. as more than 30 investigators of the fbi and prosecutors office hand out reward fliers in the double-homicide. it happened march 23rd.

. a firefighter badly burned in a deadly house fire nearly a decade ago is back on the job. this is back with his fellow firefighters today. it was actually a year ago. he was burned on 30% of his body while battling a fire last september. three other firefighters were killed when the first floor of the home collapsed. the 27-year-old is charged with starting that fire. investigators say she did it because she was drunk and angry at her stepmother. they were being shoplifted. watch her slip out cuffs after being placed in the the patrol car. she climbed into the front seat and takes off.

she crashed and was arrested again. >> this is body camera video of a police officer shooting a news photographer. it's hard to see what's happening. the deputy fired two rounds. she was setting up a camera to take pictures of a lightning storm. he took the tripod for a weapon. the photographer is okay. the officer is on administrative leave. we want you to see this video. the suv on the right side of the red car there, the driver backs up and runs over three people. they didn't notice anyone was there. it flies up there over the curb. luckily, if you can believe it, no one was seriously hurt.

there. >> we're it's a medium temperature. nothing compared to what everybody is dealing with across the islands and headed toward the u.s. with irma. as we look across the navy ships in south philadelphia, everything is great. you're not going to see sunshine today, but we may get a little sunshine tomorrow. that is the good news across the ci city. we saw just over a quarter inch of rain that has fallen. that was early this morning. i think we'll see more falling overnight tonight. you're at 63. 55 in mount polk though. 66 in atlantic city. the radar sweeping the sky picking up showers.

also chester and delaware county. just moving into philadelphia. and also in berks county and lehigh valley. the heaviest showers are starting to dry out. this is a big picture spinning right here. tz sit oefrg the great lakes. let's break it down. we're looking at steady showers and perhaps even some good downpours across the jersey shore. temperatures dropping into the 50s and 60s. you'll wake up tomorrow and it will be refreshing. we may see an early morning shower and a few peeks of sunshine in the afternoon. temperatures in the low and perhaps mid-70s in had some places. on friday we'll get more sunshine. maybe an isolated shower.

185 mile an hour winds. so it's a record setter. nearly a thousand miles wide if you take in the complete outflow of it. so it's about the size of texas. and it is headed westward right now. you can see this enormous eye. can you imagine if this passed over your island, it did pass over some islands and just in the middle of the eye. you had to take the full force coming ask. going as this moves by. let's compare it to a tornado. how would you feel if you had to stand in an ef-4 or ef-5 tornado for 30 to 60 minutes. look at these numbers. this is a category 5 hurricane. that would be an ef-4 or 5 tornado. it didn't just zip by them. so we have a couple tracks that have updated. this is the forecast model.

hello to charleston, south carolina. this is the european model. almost the same, but its in further south across the keys. the southern tip of florida. then up perhaps even past daytona or orlando, and then once again into south carolina. we don't have just one. we have three hurricanes out there now. two tropical storms that have strengthened. irma, our powerful category 5. just to the east is jose. jose has 75 mile an hour winds. expect it to strengthen but stay out to sea. we have a new one now in the gulf of mexico. katya at 75 mile an hour winds. this is going to make landfall on the mexican coastline there in the gulf of mexico. and bring them a lot of rain. it's very rare that you see two, let alone one, two, three hurricanes at the same time in the atlantic basin. >> it's crazy. >> an understatement it's an active hurricane season. she just wanted to rent a photo booth for her daughter's

this storm. >> it's not too different from the track we saw earlier today. at this point moving just to the north of puerto rico, this very large eye about 50 miles wide, hurricane force winds extend out from the eye about 50 to 60 miles and tropical storm force winds extend 185 miles beyond that. anybody in the path of this storm is feeling the fury of it as it moves past the injure vin virgin islands. you can see the size of this from one side to the other. so this is enormous and why there's so much concern. 185 mile an hour winds continue. that has not had an eye wall replacement. this is a typical thing you'd see. the pressure has dropped to 914 mill bars. expe expected to be a category 5. and into the bahamas. it
