>> tonight this monster storm is packing a punch on islands across the caribbeans. take a look at the winds in st. martin. st. thomas and puerto rico. >> you can see debris scattered and roads flooded here in st. martin. some of the worst damage could come from the i lan. here's where. the satellite image of hurricane irma passing directly over it. leaders say the islands is barely habitable. we know hurricane irma is responsible for at least three deaths. >> irma is not alone. we have three hurricanes. formed in the gulf of mexico and jose in the ocean. tonight it's hurricane irma that has people in the u.s. on. >> tammie souza just received new information on the storm and where it's headed. >> the good news the track hasn't shifted a lot. people are getting confidence. the bad news it's still over the united states and florida is right there in its cross hairs. it's right now actually moving

off to the north and west. almost ready to pull away from p puerto rico. it is a good distance from land. the eye itself is smaller. this eye was about 50 miles wide at one point. a very large eye. that's where the calm winds are. the eye wall 185 miles per hour winds exist. you can see the out flow from the perfectly shaped hurricane. on its way to probably turks and cay co. let's look at the latest path. 185 miles per hour winds. the pressure up just a little bit to 960 mill bars. moving to the west and northwest at 16 miles per hour. now it looks like tomorrow it will be moving through the turks as a powerful category five hurricane. not expecting it to diminish. passed cuba over water perhaps on friday evening still a category five. and possibly weakening to category four. the winds will be close to 155

miles per hour as it possibly makes land fall in miami. but this cone any where in the cone between the west and the east coast and even over to the bahamas is where we're expect lg to see land fall. possibly a second land fall on monday. in south carolina. we'll have more on this and some interesting facts about this particular hurricane. when i come back. the meantime it's a race fwens the clock. people trying to escape areas that could be in hurricane irma's path. >> keith jones live at philadelphia international airplane. time is running out quickly. >> this is a busy place right now. take a look. you can see everybody coming off of their flights. i talked with a south jersey man from puerto rico. he was huddled in a hotel ballroom with other guests. as irma battered the u.s. territory. that's what florida is preparing for. that's why people are getting out of town. >> reporter: tornado like winds, flash flooding.

and historically powerful and deadly hurricane. baring dun on puerto rico and heading for south florida. >> the vacation place said get out now. >> she evacuated from key west. thankful to be out of the storms path. >> there was panic in their voices. they were scared. >> last night they said get out. and take what you can. and board up your house. and pray. >> reporter: they evacuated from key lar go. >> it's scary. everyone is scary and the club is getting all the associates out. and all the employees out. and it's a ghost town down in the keys. >> i was going stay. but things are not looking good. >> reporter: they flew from miami beach to be with her son. waiting for luggage. wondering what she'll come home

to. >> it's pretty catastrophic. >> all right back live now. hundreds of flights are expected to be cancelled. airlines are waiving change in cancellation fees. some are caps flights at $99 too. like jet blue and american airline. one local woman actually reached out and said she was trying to get her daughter back from tampa. and one airline was trying to sell a ticket for $700 one way. we're live. >> that hurts. all right. first responders in company from across the region are headed south to help with hurricane irma. a task force left for a staging yar in alabama today. they'll be sent to the hardest hit areas in florida. 19 philadelphia firefighters and search and rescue dogs as well. more than 100 national guard members from new jersey are taking trucks down to florida. out fitted with big wheels to get around flooded areas. and workers will try to keep the

lights on in hurricane damaged areas. a storm restoration sent a team of 100 people to florida tonight. as hurricane ir ha gets closer to the unitenb0 for the updates. tim furlong is already in south florida to help people prepare for the storm. >> we flew down today and fou t of miami. this gas station had a being crowd all day. trying to get the one last fill up. the highways heading north were packed. mandatory evacuations already in place. and in the keys. we were able to get some things. we could not get cases of water. the shell was were empty. we'll have much more as south florida prepares to handle irma. >> our spannic language station will be reporting from south florida. hurricane irma approaches.

lock for their live reports right here on nbc10. here at home. u date on a story we were first to report a delaware county mother is out of the hospital tonight. she was tied up, held at gunpoint after two men tricked their way into her home. >> drew smith was first on the scene. he joins us life. it looks like the attackers were posing at delivery men. >> that's right. police are investigating that possibility. saying these guys walked up to the door, knocked with a box. neighbors didn't know anything was wrong. until they heard the screams. >> reporter: detectives carried out evidence from the clover lane road home the spot where they found a woman tied up. >> she's across the street. help, somebody help. please. she was screaming. >> reporter: he called 911 twice and told them to hurry. >> she was tied up and they were beating on her. when they were done, they left.

>> reporter: police checked arou around back. where they believe the men went. >> you can see the keys were still in the dead bolt. the men didn't get in by force. >> a neighbor says just last week she had somebody claiming to be a delivery man come to her toor. >> i didn't order anything or get anything. so i let them know no one in this household ordered or delivered anything. >> she yelled through the window and didn't let the man in. >> i have to be careful now. >> there is a surveillance camera around back of the home. police have not said if they have suspects. it's unclear if anything was taken from the home. meanwhile, that woman is out of the hospital. she understandably didn't want to give an interview about the traumat traumatic experience. we have new details rabbit this dirt bike hit and run in

atlantic county. authorities have arrested and charged a 17 year-old boy. the sdin was captured on video back in august. it shows the rider drive up on the sidewalk and hit a woman standing along main street. she was seriously hurt. a philadelphia woman who plotted to travel to syria to aid isis. has been sentenced to eight years in prison. she pleaded guilty last year to attempting to provide material support to a terrorist organization. before she was sentenced today, thomas told the judge she's not an evil person. but was misled. >> new details about the accused of killing temple uniform uniform. and how he tried to cover up the crime. new police documents related to the case. one affidavit details injuries police found on the suspect. when they questioned him. it reads in part, his right hand had several lacerations on it. he had linear scratches on the left side of the neck.

documents reveal the suspect grandfather discovers burly's body on the family property in wayne county. officers reported he then checked the shed at the water front to make sure there were snakes in it. there was a large blue colored tote on the floor. he observed a deceased female. he killed her inside the north philadelphia apartment last thursday and brought her body to his mother's house. before later moving her to his grandmother's property. he's charged with murder. continuing coverage now on a murder that rocked the main line. tonight we spoke exclusively with the mother of the victim as the suspect was arraigned in court. police say john lee a 28 year-old temple grad was gunned down by rollens on july 29. today he was arraigned on first degree murder and other charges. lee's mother had this message. >> i pray for him.

and i forgive him. i just want to miss him. my son is still alive. >> facing charges for shooting in a park 20 minutes before lee was murdered. coming up, six months. that's how long the murders of this mother and son have gone unsolved. now police are making a new push to find their killer. plus, a tiger on the loose. how this dangerous animal got onto the streets and how one family's dog tried to take it down.

representatives overwhelmingly passed a $8 billion aid package to help victims of that storm. a dozen dogs arrived in philadelphia from the flood zone in texas. five puppies and six adults were in a shelter. they will live with foster families. >> also tonight a south jersey community is desperate for answers. the murder of this mother and son in purling ton county has gone unsolved for six months. police are making a new push to find the killers. brandon hudson shows us friends and neighbors are making sure their memories aren't forgotten. >> stay focussed, stay true, stay positive. dream big. >> reporter: he maybe gone. but his words aren't forgotten. >> that's something i carry with me every day. >> reporter: derrick taught the six yeerd mixed marshal arts. >> he learned all his drills. very quickly. >> reporter: he says he taught him to always smile.

moved out across the atlantic. we have spotty showers from wilmington, philadelphia, trentsen and redding. it's associated with this area of low pressure that is just parked over the great lakes. this cannot move east ward because the high pressure that is steering hurricane irma is in its way. everything is jammed up here. you can see all of this is moving north than it is east. we'll pick up a few showers tonight. maybe early tomorrow morning. if your going to be up around 6 or 7 you may see a few showers. hour by hour look at this. here go the showers. they're out of here by the mid-morning rush. we'll see temperatures in the 50s when you wake up. you'll need to have the jacket. they can maybe ditch the jacket later in the day. we'll see 72. booel be cooler than normal the next few days. could see a spotty shower with a wrap around effect. finally kicked loose friday.

maybe out of the area on saturday. the weekend is nice. just cooler than normal in the 70s. back to hurricane irma. as it moves away from puerto rico the eye is beginning to kind of contract. we may see an eye wall replacement which could lead to weakening with the storm. what i want to do is here is make a comparison. the strongest winds are around eye. in the eye wall. imagine a tiny islands and this moves over you. if you have 185 miles per hour winds, as irma does around the eye wall. that would be like standing in an ef 4 tornado for perhaps a half hour or hour. some of the islands that were really decimated they took the full force of the winds. that were right around the eye. let's take a look at what the path saw. the global forecast model. it wants to keep it just offshore and make land fall in charleston south carolina. here's the european.

it takes onto the tip of florida. up florida. across daytona beach and a second land fall in charleston, south carolina. we'll watch closely the entire cone encompasses florida. we could see shifting. 74 tomorrow with showers earl will in the morning. 75 friday. 71 saturday. a nice day on sunday at 73. we'll look into the midof next week for perhaps some of the remnant rain from irma. football and fate. carson wentz explains why both are such a big part of his life. next.

i'm john clark, eagles game weelk is feeinal here here. four dies away from the season opener in washington. birds started serious preparations today and all 53 are healthy. eagles have lost five straight to the redskins. lost both games last year. wentz got his first taste of the east his first season. i asked him how excited he is to face the division rival in the season opener. >> definitely more excited because it's week one. to go down in washington divisional rival to start the year, couldn't ask for a better scenario. the opener is a very important game. you can set the tempo for the rest of the season. in the first part of the year. >> it can. lane johnson missed both games last year against the redskins and wentz got sacked nine times.
