rush. for kirby smart, huge victory, big one. defensive guys get to put those on and celebrate the big plays and bellamy earned with that one. a couple of knees to take and this one will be done. georgia will head home to play stanford and a run of sec games against mississippi state, coming to athens in a couple of weeks. in the conference, they don't have a crossover game against 'ba 'bama, no cross i don't evover t lsu. every week is tough in the sec but this is a big opportunity for georgia to build momentum as the season goes on. before notre dame without those

big conference games, they've got to take care of business in these big matchups. by no means does it ruin the season. i think the irish know they can play with anybody. if you think georgia is going to be a good team in the sec, they'll be in the next five weeks only home once against ohio. to boston college next week, then to spartan state, miami of ohio here, usc will come in, stanford and miami toward the end of schedule. it was tight, it was close. georgia made the plays on defense at the end. and the trip up north for georgia will mean a very happy return. win one for jake fromm in his first opportunity as a starting quarterback. all these georgia fans have made a weekend out of it. some are heading back to chicago

bracing for the worst. tonight at 11:00, hurricane irma barrels towards florida with damage and destruction. a new break in the case of a father murdered in front of his daughter in philadelphia and it involves a 16-year-old boy. a local good samaritan tries to save a life, but it nearly ended up costing his own. right now at 11:00, bracing for hurricane irma. the major storm is growing stronger as it gets even closer to florida. meanwhile, tens of thousands are packing shelters across the state after leaving grocery stores cleaned out.

good evening, everyone. we are hours away from hurricane irma's landfall here in the u.s., but the storm is making its presence felt across florida. here's what we know right now. at least 170,000 homes and businesses in florida have already lost power because of the hurricane. the florida keyes and southwest florida could see the worst of irma with storm surges of 10 to 15 feet and tornados are now a threat in parts of florida. we are in florida for a firsthand look at irma's impact. >> reporter: it has been an absolutely crazy night along florida's coast. the wind and rain we've had it all in florida. it's a nightmare out here. there's an evacuation order

under effect for all of the florida beach towns. anybody that's out police are coming out telling you to get out. the wind and rain is coming horizontal. most areas are closed off. they don't want you coming over. they've blocked most access roads. they're transporting homeless people to get them off the street. there are tornado warnings. our phones went crazy earlier tonight as the warnings came across our phones. there was an actual tornado towards broward county, florida. we're all hanging in there hoping as it gets worse, it doesn't get too much worse. nbc news. >> for those looking for a flight out of florida, time is up. final flights out of miami, ft. lauderdale and orlando left at 5:00 p.m. we found two lucky ladies who

were able to get out of tampa in the nick of time. >> when we took off, everybody applauded on the plane. they knew we were the last flight out. >> we were supposed to be in cuba for two days. we stayed for one day and they said we're going back. >> most commercial carriers moved their planes out of florida to avoid any potential damage from irma. at this hour, irma is closing in on florida. we are tracking the hurricane's move. erica. >> right now, hurricane irma is a category 3 hurricane. the one good thing i can say is that moldels are trending towar a category 3 landfall for irma. we have seen reports of tornados and that's one of the impacts that we'll see as hurricane irma makes landfall. it's going across the florida keyes and now we're seeing a

northwesterly movement at approximately six miles per hour. central pressure, 933 millibars. it's turning northward and now we'll see a category 3 hopefully landfall. the winds are 120 miles per hour, so at least not a category 4. let's track out hurricane irma's path as it crosses the florida keyes. it's expected to cross the florida keyes sometime early sunday morning and make landfall on the florida peninsula sometime tomorrow later in the morning or by the early afternoon hours. models are still not picking up the exact time, but when it does make landfall it looks like a category 3. initially it looked like a category 4 so that downgrade is an improvement, however it still hugs the coast to the west and it keeps on staying in that warm

water in the gulf. so what we're looking for is at least for it to maintain its position mainly on land and get weaker as it continues to work its way south to north. coming up in a bit, we'll talk more about irma and about our weather here locally that's pretty nice. back to you. >> thank you. more than 100,000 homes and businesses in florida are already without electricity because of hurricane irma. utility crews from new jersey and delaware are set to head south to help with a massive effort to restore power. 154 employees are being sent to florida for a deployment expected to last three to four weeks. atlantic city electric are sending 70 employees and 180 contractors. we are with you every step of the way as we track hurricane irma's potentially historic devastation.
