6:17 pm
about the house falling around them. >> just terrifying. >> and kenny chesney wanted to stay anonymous. his sox are going to be on repeat now. our continuing coverage of hurricane jose, the jersey shore is bracing for coastal flooding and beach erosion. it's already triggering wild waves, as you can see in this live camera in cape may. we're expecting heavy downpours starting tomorrow. let's bring in first alert glenn "hurricane" schwartz with more on this. glenn? >> jackie, as you can see, that's a very large storm. so even though it's going to pass well east of us, we're going to be impacted by it. you canç see some of the high clouds at the shore right now. thunderstorms developing right near the center. it's not about to die out. it's centering around 380 nils southeast of atlantic city and
6:18 pm
probably pass as close as 200 miles offshore. that's very fortunate. it moves over the warm gulf stream first and it's going to take a while to weaken. it does weaken up in this area but we see the track and it starts coming back. if it starts coming back some more, it may reintensify later in the week. we'll take a look at that later. the biggest problem is with the coastal flooding, especially tomorrow evening. moderate coastal flooding is pretty significant. you have street flooding if you're going to have heavy rain at the same time. you can see the core of the storm still well off shore but it's spinning some of those outer bands of heavy rain our way and there's one of them coming in tomorrow morning, perhaps part of the morning rush at the shore and just inland. some of the rain could be really heavy and causing flooding.
6:19 pm
in the meantime, north and west, it's not a bad day. a little breezy. a couple of showers. hardly know that there's a hurricane out there and it's going to spin around out there for days and that's going to be a different kind of problem. there's maria down just about to smash into the caribbean. this island right there, that is dominiqua. there's the eye 30 miles away from practically destroying this island, just like barbuda got hit. the eye is very small compared to other hurricanes. 130-mile-an-hour winds and with the way the satellite looks, it could be a category 5 very, very soon. it's headed right over puerto rico. and then as it goes out east of the bahamas, it could somehow interact with jose and what they call where it starts rotating around each other. really weird thing is about to
6:20 pm
happen. here's the puerto rico track. it looks pretty good up towards the eastern bahamas and after that, that's when you've got the question.
