steal from your own bank account. nbc 10 news starts now. right now at a 11:00, new video shows just how devastating hurricane maria was on puerto rico. this aerial footage shows the widespread damage from entire neighborhoods flooded to entire blocks of homes destroyed. >> right now most of puerto rico still has no power, and it could be months before some get electricity again. president trump has promised federal help and says he'll visit the island. >> some airlines have said they've planned to resume flights as early as tomorrow. in the meantime, people thousands of miles away in philadelphia are desperate to help. >> andraya wrg organizers of this weekend's puerto rican parade are also planning. >> reporter: that's right.

and it's still going to happen right here on the parkway. it's going to have a somber tone. the goal not only to raise awareness but also to raise a lot of money. gripped by the images of the destruction in puerto rico, some wiped away tears. >> i talked to my dad today in the gufl, but the lines are down, so i haven't gotten to communicate with him. >> reporter: with no power and sporadic internet connection, the island is practically cut off from communication. >> what we wanted to do is create a rapid response system. >> reporter: that needs for connection is why those gathered to talk about unidos puerto rico, or united for puerto rico. the new campaign will first raise money to help the island rebuild. it was organized by local and state leaders along with area n nonprofits. >> it's our obligation.

we owe this. we have to do this for our community. >> reporter: sunday puerto rico's parade will now become a fund-raiser. so will other previously scheduled festivals around town. it's a way to console each other and support their beloved island their hearts still call home. >> we're going to rebuild one brick at a time. we will rebuild puerto rico. >> reporter: and it's important to note that the non-profit is handling all of the donations for this campaign. now, people are being warned to watch out for a lot of these independent donations, fund-raising efforts that are going on because they may be scams. reporting live along the parkway, aundrea cline thomas, nbc 10 news. >> and tonight hurricane maria getting ready to hit its next victim, turks and caicos. >> and it's gotten stronger as it approaches the islands. >> yeah, that storm is strengthening. right now you can actually make

out the eye. it has closed up a bit, but the intensity has actually deepened. it's not moving too fast. it's going about 9 miles an hour off to the northwest. at this point still a category 3, but it has upped the wind speed. 125 mile an hour winds now. just 4 more miles and we'll bump up to a category 4. there is the possibility this could strengthen. so we'll continue to watch this as it moves over the turks and caicos tomorrow. then it should clear over the bahamas on saturday. unless it shifts westward, the bahamas will be spared by the time we get into tuesday. and then we'll be looking for the possibility of very high surf, beach erosion and dangerous rip currents. guys. new at 11:00, south korean

that collapsed during mexico's deadly earthquake. mexico city firefighters shared video of two dramatic rescues. one video shows an elderly woman carried out to safety on a stretcher. another shows firefighters making their way through rubble to save a woman buried under neath. rescue attempts have stretched into a third day. all of the children who were inside of a school that became the focus of a massive rescue, has been accounted for. but one adult is believed to be trapped in that collapsed building. at least 273 people have died from the 7.1 magnitude earthquake. more than 2,000 others were hurt. new at 11:00 person person dead and another in a hospital after a shooting and car crash in strawberry mansion. police got that call around 8:30. one of the men was shot in the head while sitting in the car. police say there were 7 bullet

holes in the car. another man was hit in the shoulder and the hip. tonight a man was charged with having weapons of mass destruction after police say he had two pipe bombs. neighbors living on that black were evacuated while the bomb squad made sure everything was safe. a man accused of sticking up a main line jewelry store and stealing hundreds of dollars worth of watches says he is not the guy police are looking for. he doesn't deny being inside the store, but he says he is not the armed robber seen here on this surveillance video. taylor was in court today where a judge found enough evidence to hold him on armed robbery charges. when taylor entered, he asked the man his name and he responded joe. >> if i don't use my name, i'm not guilty of a crime, right? i admitted that i never even

pointed a weapon at him. >> did you have a weapon? >> police are still searching for it stolen watches. a camden county detective is on the other side of the law after admitting he had a baby with a 15-year-old. police say rafael martinez, jr., had a relationship with the 15-year-old for about a year. martinez is suspended without pay. students were learning a valuable life lesson. the brothers of alfisig mufi -- someone is abused every two minutes and most of them are under 30. also tonight the health care debate is heating up. republicans in the senate are pushing a new bill to repeal and replace obamacare. today alone we saw four of our local congressman in the area

surveillance video of the culprits. >> we're shown how these devices work and how you can spot them. >> reporter: the devices are small and not very sophisticated. but the info they can pass onto thieves can do big damage. police are asking for help in identifying two people of interest. they're linked to skimming devices linked to atms in philadelphia's fox chase section. >> this is how the card is duplicated, how the information is actually transferred. it'll be the same color, everything. you'll never know the difference. >> reporter: you'll dip your card, it copies your information and another copies your pin. the problem is growing with 20 skimming devices already found in philadelphia this year. >> actually nets criminals

potentially ten times more than a bank robbery. it nets them approximately $30,000 to 60,000. >> there were scams before with gas stations. so before a swipe a card, i would grab it, pull it a little or something. but here i never thought about it. >> reporter: police say the best protection is to cover your hands to protect your pass code, that way if there is a hidden camera watching you, they won't be able to get it. the probe into the russian int interference in the 2016 election now involves facebook. it's an effort to find out how russia may have interfered in the election through targeted advertising on the social media site. zuckerberg also said facebook will hire 250 new staffers.

now, new england patriots tight end aaron hernandez had a degenerative brain disease that sometimes caused violent behavior. an autopsy found he had stage 3 cte. the family now suing the nfl. hernandez killed himself in prison. he was serving a life sentence for murder. cbs is changivs is changing dispenses pain killers. they'll contact doctors if they see opiods written for more than what is necessary. it'll also limit opiods to a one week supply for new patients that have short-term acute problems. the new changes will be in place in february.

the remnants of the san jose have people trapped on nantucket. it bufted the island with wind, coastal erosion and travel trouble. all flights are canceled. ferries are not running. jose is still affecting parts of our region tonight and hurricane maria tonight could, too. >> let's get more on that. >> yeah, just when you think fall is going to arrive, not so much. it is going to be a very warm stretch for us. and we are going to be watching yet another hurricane cruise up the coast. let's take another look outside. you saw some of those high clouds today. those are courtesy of what is now post-tropical storm jose. it's lost its tropical storm characteristics. 88 was our high today in philadelphia. and the rainfall, zip. very comfortable tonight. 72 in coastal.

75 in wilmington. 75 right now in philadelphia. mount holly, 67. atlantic city 71, and wildwood coming in at 68. that's probably going to feel a bit refregtsing because we are in for a very warm start to fall. fall starts at 2:02 tomorrow afternoon. we're going to be warm 10 to 15 degrees above average. we've got, of course, the eagle's home opener, and you're going to need to dress comfortably if you're going to that. dress comfortably, bring sunscreen and hydrate. a little bit of higher humidity. so definitely it feels very summer like out there, and we're going to continue that trend. in fact tomorrow we're going to make it up to 84 in philadelphia. we're going to see the low 80s in ready, and right around 80 degrees for stone harbor.

so we're going to continue to see above average temperatures. 76 is where we should be. we have exceeded that value. doppler radar not showing any rain here. but not too far away is where we're looking at what's going on with what once was tropical storm jose. we don't have any raiders out there in the atlantic. it's going to be a little cooler tomorrow and the next day along the jersey shore because the winds will come in off of the water. so while we make it tomorrow into the 80s and on saturday certainly into the mid-80s. and on sunday pushing 90 degrees in some spots, we're going to see much cooler readings right along the beaches. so your neighborhood forecast tonight includes 64 for injersey shore, 55 for the pennsylvania suburbs and 65 in philadelphia. for tomorrow we're going to see, again, sunshine with perhaps some high clouds.
