friday. today president trump announced he will visit puerto rico the storm ravaged virgin islands next tuesday. he says the u.s. has been finding a way to fly in supplies despite logistical trouble left by the storm.ç >> is we found people in delaware who were trying to get food and water to their loved ones stuck on the island. but they are struggling to do it. >> you found some people who are finding a way to get help to the island. tell us more. >> in a very creative way, now this is a barbershop here in the valley shopping center. they want the to get. supplies to puerto rico. they teamed up with a number of organizations and they rented a u haul. when we got here this morning, it was empty. after one facebook post, it's

starting to fill up and people here are hoping this is just the start. >> their whole lives are shattered. >> reporter: they all want to do something. >> these people are going to be without power for six months to who knows when. >> he rented a uhaul and began asking customers for donations bound for puerto rico. >> hopefully have it in their heart. >> store owners in plymouth valley are chipping in. >> it's horrible. and you got to feel bad. i know i do. hopefully we can help them out as much as we can. >> even as donations pour in, the struggle of how they will get to the island continues. local groups are working with the airlining to get free cargo space. but flights to the islanden won't start until tomorrow. >> they are american citizens. the end of the day, we stand for

a flag and it's time to stand up for our american citizens. >> so for now, the plan is to fill the truck and hope. >> e we need a lot of bare necessities. that's what organizers say they have been told airlines will have space to donate and this truckload will be en route to where it's needed. >> in it my heart i really want the to help these people. >> they are going to be collecting donations here until october 6th or 7th. the hope is that people will drop things off here. if you can't do that, cash donations are also accepted. and they are hope iing that the airlines will have that by october 7th to get donations to puerto rico where they are needed. >> if you want to help the people in puerto rico, you can call 800-596-656. you can give to the red cross. that number will be scrolling on the bottom of your screen.

you can also find ways to help right on the nbc 10 app. we have ts if you're trying to get in contact with a loved one on the island. >> hurricane maria is inflicting damage in our area. the impact is mostly at the beach where there have been more than 100 water rescues since saturday. three people in mammoth counties died after being pulled from the water. beach erosion remains an issue. a a live look at the beaches now at cape may and avalon. we're expecting big waves and high rip current risk on the shore through tomorrow. and first alert meteorologist steve sosna is here. >> you can see a couple things from the camera behind me. we have about 8 to 12-foot waves coming ashore. you also see some of the dune grass here blowing around. we see a lot of low clouds. this is the outer fringe of maria. we'll not take a direct impact from the storm. as you can see, hundreds of

miles away from the center of the storm, which is off the coast of the outer banks. it will not impact them directly. we will see some of these outer rain bands move in across areas like virginia and maryland. even delaware and new jersey beaches may see some of the showers. what to expect, 8 to 11-foot waves. wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour. and could be a couple showers. i'll track the showers hour by hour and have a look at your weekend forecast, coming up. >> the effort to repeal obamacare stalled again. mitch mcconnell announced the move today saying the gop lacked the votes to get that bill passed. >> republicans putting on hold an issue they campaigned on for three election cycles. >> we haven't given up. we are not going to be able to do that this week.

and replace would help. it's been more than two months since we visited him at his shob. his business has grown. he's worried what will happen when he gets his insurance quote for the new year. >> i don't know what my options are going to be. >>ç owners buys just for herse. she has type one diabetes. i take four shots a day. active, alive. it's vital that i have good insurance. >> reporter: she's been fighting the republican efforts to repeal and replace obamacare. >> it's really been a bit of a a roller coaster ride. i very nervous every time these issues come up. when i defeat them, i get a sense of relief. >> reporter: today she was optimistic waiting for word whether the bill would get a vote. >> what happens if it goes away? is that a complete victory? >> it's not because right now the marketplace is uncertain.

sitter murdered and police don't know who killed her. she was staying a the a house in woodbury. her body was found inside on saturday. an autopsy revealed she died from blunt force trauma. >> president trump talking about the protests. today he defended himself against critic wos say he is preoccupied with the pissue and not focused on more important ones. >> i wasn't preoccupied with the nfl. i was ashamed of what was taking place. to me that was an important moment. i don't think you can dis. respect our country, our flag, our national anthem. >> the president argued that protests during the anthem are disrespectful to military members and to injured veterans. a bucks county lawmaker is co-sponsoring a senate resolution to condemn players who protested. he's focused on pennsylvania's other nfl team. all but one player stayed in the locker room during the anthem on sunday. today philadelphia unveiled the

happening rugt now, a community is coming together to stop the violence that they say is terrifying their town. a faith-based meet iing just started in millville to address people's safety concerns. new at 6:00, south jersey bureau reporter cydney long shined a light on why residents are so afraid. all day every day, they will say gunshots over on fifth and mul buterer and an hour later we find out that there's a shooting victim on the other side of town. residents are fearful of gunfire and what feels like nonstop violent crime. >> within five minutes of us being in millville we were want interrupted.

sirens blared. not once but three times. >> what's it like living here? >> it's not good out here. there's too much killing people. >> no matter you ask, you have to watch yourself. >> it's the reason the commissioner appointed the public safety called the meeting. he fears a new camden has been born. >> according to the fbi, aggravated assault in millville were up last year from 92 in 2015 to 115 in 2016. the headline grabber so far this year is a young mother killed inside her home. >> they were left alone an expired body. >> she didn't have the exact number of shootings, but says we're down a third. police are targeting no criminal hot spots.

but the big break we have been talking about comes over the weekend. you can see that here on our weekend forecast. for the crisp fall feel, this is the kind of weather that'sç th catalyst for the changing that you see across the area. the suburbs we're in the 80s. mid-80s in the valley. the most sunshine to the west of philadelphia. we have 79 in west bradford. as we go up to my hometown. we have temperatures in the 80s. and near 80 towards the delaware river in eastern bucks county. tonight's forecast we'll see the trend beginning to dip a little bit. this is a muggy night for

september is as. temperatures close in on the lower 70s. the latest on maria. we had a category one storm throwing outer rain bands at areas like eastern north carolina. but the storm is just a shadow of its former self. it will continue to push out to e sea. the effects will be felt here in the form of clouds tomorrow. if we do get that shb, temperatures tomorrow could be at 90 degrees. you may be wondering why allergies are so bad. take your mb. we have had some deaths here at the rip currents. do not swim until conditions are safe. that should happen for the weekend. a lot o of humidity and heat back in the picture. i may have to bump the numbers up. check back in at 11:00. we will look for that humidity
