the devastation sparked a growing humanitarian cry kis. only 5% has power. it is sending thousands. one week after the hurricane they are staying with emergency shelters. a plane the on its way to puerto rico to help hurricane victims. the american airlines flight is full of food, clothing and generators. pamela osborne is live at the airport with more to help the devastating u.s. island.

nbc 10. here is a live look at cape may. a risk for the jersey shore. we are tracking the summer-like weath weather, krystal. >> yeah. you can see it is kind of a haze think gray overhead. when you have a lot of moisture it holds it a little better. it may look better without the cloud coverage. it is more clear the farther north and west you go because of that band that has been pushing out is not reaching to areas like the lehigh valley. now it's officially a hurricane again. today is the day it starts to hook to the right. no land fall worries for us. we do see the clouds that are moving in and there's a chance for spotty showers over delaware

beaches as a result of maria. maria is also churning up the waters which is why we have a high risk rip current today and through tomorrow as well. let's talk current temperatures. it is 82 in philadelphia. it is 84 in wilmington. it is 77 in atlantic city. temperatures will get hotter. we are talking mid-to upper 80s today. so today on our fall feel meter we are looking at the question, is it still summer? here is the question. as we go into tomorrow we'll start to feel change in the air. if you have been waiting for fall it's time to break out the flannel. more coming up in a few minutes. >> thanks. this morning philadelphia police are questioning a suspect and witnesses in a deadly shooting in fish town. sheer what we know. police found the 33-year-old victim dead in a hallway around

3:30 this morning. there were children inside the apartment. it is unclear if they witnessed the shooting. they believe the victim and shooter knew each other. nobody has been charged yet in this case. a 16-year-old boy is dead after a gunman shot four people in philadelphia's german town neighborhood. two others were hurt around 8:30 last night. it started as a shootout. right now there are no arrests. let's head to coamden where investigators are trying to put out a fire. they were on the scene just before 8:00 this morning. it quickly spread next door. firefighters were able to get the flames under control. nobody was hurt. now to a murder that has stunned a community. somebody killed a mother while

the other roads in our region. >> yeah. i'll help you get around it. we are seeing delays on the southbound side. this is near island avenue with lane restrictions. we also have a wreck around spring garden street. we talked about that water main break. that road was closed. there's not a ton of volume around the area. this pretty much runs parallel to the scene. you can take it and get by very easily without any major delays because of it. we had an earlier opening scheduled for 10:40. delays are pretty much gone. now you don't need it anymore. the problem will be this opening at 11:10. you'll to have delays there for at least the next 20 minutes or

this morning james mattis and secretary general are pledging their continued support to afghanistan. the two are visiting kabul today. they say the cost of leaving is higher than staying. shortly after mattis arrived overseas bombs exploded near the kabul airport. >> this is about making sure afghanistan doesn't want to become a safe haven for international terrorists. the best way is to enable them to have defense security forces which have strong enough to do just that. nato says it is commit today providing for the next three years to support the security forces as well as add more u.s. troops. happening now, security here

let's talk high temperatures. we are looking very hot and humid. an isolated shower over the jersey shore is possible. not a lot of rain. we are talking a spotty shower here or there as we go through the afternoon. we have some of that moisture lingering with maria sitting to the east of the outer banks of north kore north carolina. it is feeling tropical out there. muggy and sticky conditions. we have warm humid air over us right now. there is hurricane maria. this is for the cold front.

tomorrow we are all a bit wind by because of the cold front. let's talk high temperature as a result of the fronts moving in. friday 73 in philly and 71 on our saturday. we are looking at 69 in the suburbs. by sunday 70, very sunny out there. low 70s to upper 60s. we could see a spotty shower saturday morning. again, that's about it. this is a pretty dry forecast and nice and cool fall forecast. it is low humidity. comfortable conditions. thursday will be the transition day. it will be cooler but not quite as cool as you see for the

>> the important thing is flu has a higher likelihood of resulting in hospitalization, pneumonia and even death. we are expected to see upwards of 77,000 this year. the majority of americans actually take the flu illness very seriously with up dcwards of 2% getting a flu shot. >> some say i'm not getting the flu shot because i'll get the flu after i get the shot. >> it is a great question. it is absolutely a myth. we can say that with great confidence because it contained a killed virus. i doesn't have any of the ingredients in it that allow it to replicate in your body and make your sick. it can only show your body a blueprint so that you are adequately protected when you

brian. >> reporter: that's right. today is all about mission puerto rico. this morning we departed from delaware. i have him here with me. what can you tell me about the mission? >> we are here at dover air force base. we are here picking up critical supplies. we'll pick up about ten pallets, a couple of vehicles and fly them down there and bring 60 personnel down there because it's a top priority to work with fema and local authorities to make sure that the relief is given to the people in puerto rico. >> reporter: what can you tell me? >> it is a very large aircraft, as you can see. it is capable of moving massive

quantities of cargo any where in the world at a moment's notice. >> thank you so much. >> reporter: we'll be flying to puerto rico in a few hours. we'll bring you the latest in a few hours. nbc 10 news. >> thank you, brian. right now an american airlines flight from philadelphia is headed to puerto rico. it is loaded with supplies, relief workers and passen skbrers trying to get to their relatives. generators donated by employees of american airlines. jim is on that flight. in about 30 minutes from now dogs and it cats rescued will be arriving. the animals will be treated at the shelter and they will be available for adoption.

in philadelphia up to about the i-95 corridor. it is much more likely which are the areas that will be high rip current risks. that means it's dangerous conditions, life threatening and that's why we say stay out of the water. there's numerous rescues that occurred over the last week or so. it makes it more powerful. this is maria sitting to the south about 300 miles or so andfectiand effecting the storm of north carolina. soon enough it will be way out of our path. right now we will ha-- are talkg clouds. it is 86 by 2:00.

alabama's general election in december of this year. today new jersey governor chris christie will lead to combat drug addiction. he said the president told him he is committed to the idea of a national emergency declaration but he is waiting for his staff to get the declaration right so to speak. it would force the cabinet and congress to focus on funding agencies that fight overdose deaths. they confirm the acting head of the drug administration will be leaving his post october 1st. dea chief has become disillusioned with president trump believing he doesn't respect the law. he criticized the president over his speech to police on long island encouraging them to quote unquote not be too nice when handling suspects.

but not the kind of impact we saw with jose. let's talk about all of the computer models. they indicate from now through thursday a quick hook to the right will occur. it is starting to a north, northeast push. it is farther away from us. we'll see impacts and it will be way out of our woods. we'll be looking for much nicer conditions as we go into our weekend as cooler air dips in and a cold front passes. winds today are going to be up a bit, about 15 to 20 miles per hour sustained in delaware beaches. lighter as you go farther inland. it is the fact that we are in the wind field of maria right now. hour by hour you may see spotty showers along the i-95 corridor or up into lehigh valley here. very spotty in nature. we have a lot of moisture in the air. when you have moisture and temperatures warming to the

mid-to upper 80s you can fire off a little storm. we are looking at this chance spotty in nature. by thursday clouds are starting to move oucht. a front moves by the sweep everything out of the way including the humidity. it will feel much nicer by your thursday afternoon. got a little muggy thursday morning though. here is the front. the warm humid air is in place. it moves in, this is out and we are replacing with cool crisp air. it is another cold front moving in as well for a second round of cooling into your friday. tomorrow though you will notice windy conditions with cooler temps. tomorrow is kind of change day. we'll start a little humid. we'll dry out in the afternoon. sunny conditions but also windy. ho how about future temperatures? mid-to upper 80s. forecasting high of 89 in philadelphia. we go overnight and temperatures
