>> we brought live coverage at 6:00 when the train stopped running through center city. passengers poured out onto the tracks. brandon hudson is ginning us live from 30th straight station. things back to normal at this point? >> services are delayed for the rest of the evening. passengers a loud bang. some thought it was a fire. we saw some people who mised their train ride home. walk ten blocks. come this sidewalk to 30th street station. some of the passengers were trying to get home to their children. there was a loft confusion. >> reporter: sky force ten over head as panicked paz jers walked on the track during the evening rush hour. they took it upon themselves to k evacuate after an electrical problem stopped the train in its tracks. >> there was smoke and people kicking out windows. >> he was behind the train. the evacuation forced to hold

all regional rail service into center city at the height of rush hour. kept waiting for an hour and a half. >> i wanted to get home and see my son. >> reporter: paz jers pack the platform trying to get home. at 30th street station there was a lot of red on the board for delays. workers redirected passengers and police on the platform. he waited on the train an hour before he got to the station. >> everybody was upset they were waiting for so long. some people were relieved to finally have been rescued. >> gm of oermgs operation says passengers should always listen to the conductor. especially in the case of a false alarm. service will be working on time tomorrow morning. now to the crisis in puerto rico. tonight, a message from on the

ground. send more help. it's been nearly a week since hurricane maria devastated the island. many people in the philadelphia area still have not heard from relatives on the island. >> one church nearly everyone is on a mission to reconnect and also deliver vital supplies during the next few weeks. we have the story. >> reporter: right now the church is gathering up vital supplies they're sending to puerto rico in a few weeks. you can see them with heavy equipment. loading up boxes of water here. that they're going to be sending. over here to you can see the supplies that once again will be going to puerto rico. in the next few weeks. many folks out here are doing this not moeing if their family members are okay. >> reporter: it's desperate times right inside the international temple of restoration. pastor shared photographs and video of the devastation on the island.

nearly everyone here still has not heard from family members in puerto rico. these are the faces. constantly tugging at their hearts. not knowing if they are alive and well. >> my fear is people dying. you know? dying because they don't have water or don't have food. or shelter. it's not fair. >> he's saying that now the problem is there's no water to drink. the water is now like gold. >> reporter: a few lucky ones hearing from family. it's a voice message like this. that has them concerned. she hasn't talked to some family on the island. her mind running wild. >> you're thinking that could be one of your family members. that's going through this. and haven't been drinking water. or maybe they drown. >> reporter: a glimmer of hope. he gets the call he's been waiting for. with the news still sobering. >> old people are dying. they have nothing.

>> some of the supplies will be sent to puerto rico in the next few weeks. as for members here, they'll be going to the island to help out their relatives. emergency supplies arrived in san juan today. loaded about 30,000 pounds of cargo destined for puerto rico. >> i was on board the flight. as with e headed for a quick round trip to san juan. we wanted to see conditions at the airport. and hear firsthand about conditions on the island. >> reporter: departure from a disaster zone. we accompanied passengers bound for finally leaving behind a week without most comforts. once on board the stress apparent on their faces. >> you have been at the airport for four days. sheeping on what? >> the floor.

i haven't taken a shower. a real shower. >> reporter: like hundreds. she was stranded for days with her diabetic mother. at a stifling san juan airport. she says food was scarce. >> what's it been like for you the last week? >> in my opinion, this is hell. it was. >> my heart is very broken. it's difficult situation. >> reporter: this man has to return to his pharmaceutical job. with no word from his daughter and two dprand children. silence on the battered u.s. territory since before the storm. >> i have two grandsons. i don't any communication. >> the needs in her homeland almost overwhelming. >> we don't have enough supplies. we don't have electricity. we don't have communication. i'm going to the states.

i don't know if i'll be able to communicate with my family. it's a very hard situation. >> in fact a nrm of passengers we met had mixed emotion about leaving. a lot needed a break from the desperate situation. but plan to go back when things get better. >> every single person on that plane with a story. a heartbreaking story. >> yes. you're right. it was an honor to speak to so many of them. tomorrow philadelphia mayor and other city leaders call for needed relief. they want president trump and congress to e tend relief to the islands 3.4 million u.s. citizens. north philadelphia tonight. restaurant raised $4,000 during a fundraiser. to help hurricane maria victims. organizers say the money will go towards generators, diapers and food. distributed in the more rural sections of puerto rico. police are searching for a man who tried to pull a boy into

his car. it happened just after 8:00 tonight. near walker street. after the 12 year-old broke away from the suspect, he followed the boy in his car. the boy made it home safely. police are searching for that man. a driver was killed bh her car slammed into the trolly in northern liberty this afternoon. a baby and a young child riding in the car were hurt. but are expected to be okay. the crash happened just after 4:00. at the intersection of fourth street. no one on the trolly was hurt. philadelphia police want to get this man off the streets before he strikes again. he's robbed three restaurants in as many days. sdp used a knife to threatening employees. in the each case he was able to get away with cash. no one was hurt. a bullet that killed a 16 year-old boy was not meant for

him. jake was one of four young people shot in the 100 block. the youngest victim a 13 year-old girl was grazed. in the arm. >> to shoot somebody innocent, and to snuff out their future. it's a horrible thing. the people in the community need to stand up and rise up against this type of crime. >> sources tell us all the teenagers were minding their own business when the gunman started shooting. a middle class miracle. that's what president trump is calling a tax plan rolled out today by house republicans. the sweeping over haul is just a blueprint. it calls for simplifying and cutting individual income tax rate. slashing corporate taxes to 20%. and expanding the child tax credit. if it nearly double the standard deduction used by most americans. experts warn it could cost the country $2 trillion over a

>> reporter: gary is the special agent in charge of the philadelphia division of the drug enforcement agency. he says the spread is especially dangerous for law enforcement and first responders. just this summer crews were sickened. bucks county and pittsburg. after possible exposure. and in miami, a young boy died from it. >> for the dea this evolving threat requires new layers of protection. a drug raid that used to involve only a pair of gloves and a standard face mask. requires far more. as they showed my firsthand. >> a fire resistant suit. >> bullet proof vest. >> tactical belt. air purifying. self-contained breathing apparatus. chemical resistant suit.

>> this 50 plus pounds of equipment is a stark contrast to the limited protection often worn by workers in the heroin mills that the dea is busting. >> when you are going in wearing all of this. their are people working with this wearing only this. >> yus this and a pair of gloves. >> we have a responsibility to make sure we're protecting ourselves as well as the public. >> reporter: chief scientist and director of toxicology sciences. over the past year and a half, his team alone has counted more than 15,000 related deaths. the samples they have tested from across the country. he says drug makers keep altering the deadly additive. almost monthly. >> it's 20 or 30 different variances. >> he applauds the protections for teams entering the most hazardous environment.
