having a hard time connecting with loved ones on the island. people in are getting on board a cruise ship today. tourists have been stuck on the island since the hurricane hit. the ship is headed to fort lauderdale and returning next week. one ship is being used to deliver supplies to help hurricane victims. "nbc nightly news" will have the stories of people waiting to get on that ship. that's coming up at 6:30 right after the newscast. septa is now reviewing just what went wrong after yesterday's train scare. 24 hours ago passengers heard a loud bang on their train so they climbed out of that car and right on to the tracks themselves. it's a story e we brought you as breaking news yesterday at 6:00. today septa says it understands passengers heard several loud bangs after the power went out. it said it is dangerous to walk in an active track area and someone could have really gotten hurt. it will continue to work on communication during

emergencies. the hunt for a dangerous trio that randomly attacked innocent people. two robberies happened within 30 minutes of each other. one person shot. one of the victims may be left with a devastating and permanent injury. >> reporter: a man was walking down the street heading to his girlfriend's house when he was attacked by three men with a gun. when he tried to run away, he was shot once in the baa back. that gunshot left him paralyzed. this was the scene early this morning at the corner of 54th and warrenington. caution tape blocked off the intersection. >> he e tries to run southbound across the intersection. he gets struck in the back and falls to the ground. >> the man was walking to his girlfriend's house when three men with the handgun walked up to him and tried to rob him. after getting shot once in the

back, the victim had no feeling in his arms or legs when help arrived. on 58th street a few minutes earlier. it was the same story. a man inç his 30s minding his n business was attacked. >> he was pistol whipped and taken to the hospital. >> both crimes are considered to be random attacks. and police believe the same suspects are responsible. we talked to detectives today. they told us so far no arrests made, but they are warning people to remain both vigilant aware especially when the sun goes down. reporting in southwest, steven fisher, nbc 10 news. turning now to your first alert weather, the change is outsifeeling like fall. breezy conditions out there as we look live at the wind turbines. and down the shore, a live view of conditions in cape may.

both sides of the aisle. congressman scalise says when he hit the ground after she was shot he prayed for a lot of things. they were all answers. now he's back. >> you have no idea how great this feels to be back here at work in the people's house. i am definitely a living example that miracles really do happen. >> scalise recognized and thanked one of the two u.s. capital police officers who helped save his life. four others were also shot before the suspect was killed. house speaker paul ryan was push iing the tax plan in delawe county. he toured the machine plan before holding a question and answer session with employees. the speaker spoke about the global disadvantage because of the tax rates and how the president's plan helps middle-class families. the philadelphia beverage industry says the city's soda tax is failing and they have the numbers to prove it.

the tax coalition says the city closed the summer season with revenues falling 15% short of projections. that's a sign that the tax is not working. the city respondeding most economists will tell you that being only 15% below projections is pretty good for a new tax. we are one week away tr a dreamers dead line. >> people in the daca program have until october 5th to request a renewal to stay in the program. a few weeks ago president trump decided to end the program for young undocumented immigrants brought here illegal by by their parents as children. they can go to school or work without fear of deportation. >> 800,000 young people are in that program including many students in our area who have never known a country other than the united states. >> this is where i want my
