breaking news near 19th. nbc 10 is live in center city with what we know about the victim. >> reporter: officers are saying the victim is a homeless man. he was found stabbed to death and behind the trailers here. the victim was pronounced dead. it is used as a recreational space away from the free library. we spoke to a man who watched as

officers made the arrest. >> i saw two people standing there and two policemen and a policewoman there. they were talking to them. i thought maybe it was shoplifting. in a few minutes about 15 to 20 police officers showed up and they took them away. i was talking to someone and they told me somebody was stabbed down here by the library. >> reporter: a few homeless people say they were shocked somebody was stabbed here. it is considered a safe place for them to be. the investigation continues. nbc 10 news. police are searching for a killer after a shooting left a young man dead.

we are hearing from someone who hard the gunshots, pam. >> reporter: police identified a suspect but they have yet to track him down. this is the man police are looking for. multiple witnesses saw him shoot mitchell. mitchell was attempting to run away when he was shot. the shooting took place in the childrens plaza just before 10:00 last night. we spoke to a man who had been having dinner across the street. he saw young people hanging out there before it happened. >> i heard two loud sounds and i thought it was a gun and then i thought it has to be a fire

cracker or something the kids are playing with. when i got back to the hotel and heard someone had gotten shot i realized rk realized, wow, that's what it was. >> reporter: officers did recover a gun from the scene. we have been watching this morning as they walk around looking for surveillance video. we are waiting to find out if they were able to recover surveillance video. i should mention schools in this area keeping children indoors today as the search for the shooter continues. nbc 10 news. a fire caused a condo to collapse. the condo was part of a complex that was still under construction. the fire started around 330 this morning. at least one other condo was damaged.

investigators trying to figure out how that fire started. today a judge will sentence a father who admitted to killing his son creato wcould be sentenced six years. a coast guard crew delivered food and supplies to the island. fema and law enforcement will hand out the supplies to storm victims. many are desperate to get off the island and escape the devastation there including one man from philadelphia. more than two thousand people lined up to try to board for caribbean ship. they say the ship is taking about 800 stranded tourists off

morning rush hour turned deadly in india. a rush hour crowd was walking on a pedestrian bridge connecting two rail stations and concrete fell and triggered the stampede. 32 others were hurt. oh, my god. >> new video shows the second of two rock falls at owe similar tee national park. a huge chunk of granite fell. the first killed a british man on wednesday. debris from yesterday's rock fall crashed through the top of

three touchdowns. lots of sunshine and no sign of any wet weather. it is not to the level we saw yesterday. a few fair weather clouds. the temperatures are slowly climbing up. we are still behind where we were yesterday at this time. it is 10 degrees cooler than yesterday. down by 13 in mill vville. we are cooler but the temperatures are making some slow progress. it will warm into the 70s. right now in the 60s. many neighborhoods started off including the lehigh valley. delaware 66 degrees and also at 66. that 66 at philadelphia international. you can see it there. it got cooler than the airport

this is going to start changing things tonight. that is a cold front. it is bringing in showers. you can see the showers moving through. behind that cold front it's cooler air. you'll definitely feel that for tomorrow and again on sunday. before the cold air gets in we could see a few showers. the first chance is coming in tonight, not during the day today. 6:00 this evening we are completely dry. that cold front is on the move. so late tonight if you're out at 11:00 we may see a few scattered showers and then it swings through abdomen we get a dry start tomorrow morning. that same system will be lingering and tomorrow afternoon the chance of showers comes back into the area. that is afternoon at 12:30. the chance of showers will continue on and off. we are not talking about a lot of rain here but it is the possibility of thunderstorms just offshore. it will be getting close to the

this is the second year for this walk. tell us why you decided to organize it. >> i was bullied before and i think it is a very important matter in our community. not enough people talk about it. it is in order to bring awareness to it. >> what do you want the walk to do? >> i think it is a very like -- i think wallingford is very positive and brings positive community but it needs to bring more awareness to bullying. >> bullying had a negative effect on you. tell us about your story. >> when i was in fourth grade a bunch of my friends turned against me and joined the popular crew and i ended up leaving my school because of how bad the bullying was. >> you were recognized for yor

>> reporter: the shooting happened just over my shoulder here at the childrening corner. he tells us he saw young people hanging out there. he heard two loud noiss. at first he thought it was gunfire. he thought it could have been fire crackers. he walked in and heard there had been a shooting. it has been the talk of the town this morning as detectives have been canvassing up and down main and bridge streets.

we spoke to a woman who knew the victim. she realized it was mitchell who had been shot. >> i saw his girlfriend get in the back of a cop car. i had a bad feeling. i saw them picking up the gun and bullets. they had multipresidele cops. they were saying they found something. police say he should be considered armed and dangerous. >> reporter: we know schools in the area are keeping students indoors throughout the school day as the search for the shooting suspect continues. i'm pamela osborne, nbc 10 news.

normal. high temperature 73 degrees. we cool it down and early evening hours will be dry. chance of showers will come in during the late evening hours. it gets cooler tomorrow morning and down to 56 degrees at 7:00. we will see a warm up tomorrow but only into the 60s tomorrow afternoon. we start the weekend cool but then the warm upstarts on sunday. it will be around for much of next week. i'll show you how warm it will get when i'm back. philadelphia investigators hope more reward money will help solve a murder case. someone shot and killed matt novac in 2008. you're looking at surveillance video from 13th street where he was found. just before that novac asked a passing car for help after his car broke down at 6th and green street. he got in a blue chevy impala

and drove off. someone in the car may have been the shooter. there is a $45,000 award for the arrest and conviction of his l killer. loved ones will gather for a fallen firefighters. he died earlier this morning. medics took greene to the hospital while he was on duty. they have not determined the cause of death. procession and funeral scheduled for tomorrow morning. a spokesman for house republicans says there could be a breakthrough next week. that is when the state senate reconvenes. they called input from democratic government helpful. lawmakers passed a $32 billion spending plan this summer but they are stuck on how to close a $2.2 billion revenue gap. a patient being treated at a

about puerto rico. >> they were at their life's end prior to the hurricanes and now virtually everything has been wiped out and we will have to really start all over again. we are literally starting from scratch. ultimately the government of puerto rico will have to work with us to determine how this massive rebuilding effort will end up being one of the biggest ever will be funded and organized and what we are do with the tremendous amount of existing debt already on the island. we will not rest, however, until the people of puerto rico are safe. these are great people. we want them to be safe and sound and secure and we will be there every day until that

happens. likewise we are working closely with the virgin islands on the disaster recovery and that effort is going very very well. both governors, i have to tell you, of puerto rico and of the virgin islands have been extremely good. they working so hard. there is nothing left. it has been wiped out. the houses are largely flattened. the roads are washed away. there is no electricity. the plants are gone. they are gone. it's not let's send a crew in to fix them. they have to build brand new electric, sewage systems wiped out. never been anything like this. there remains a lot of work to do. we will work with the folks we are working with right now. they are trying very very hard.

currents and the high surf, rough surf is an issue for delaware beaches and jersey shore. it is 63 and it started in the 60s in delaware at the beaches and that's where it still is. not much of a warm up. we'll see lots of sunshine today but a quick cool down this evening. dry at 9:00. the suburbs will see sunshine. low 70s this afternoon. cooling into the 50s by 9:00. clear skies during the daytime but the clouds start to build at 9:00 this evening. there is a chance i will see scattered late showers heading into the late evening hours. 70s for philadelphia and delaware and south jersey at the shore near 70 degrees this afternoon. cooling down into the 60s this evening. pretty nice fall weather. dry right now. no sign of the showers to come in our immediate area.

you don't have to go far to see them. they are moving into western new york. this system will sink in and spreading out a chance of showers. cooler weather for the weekend. it is dry in philadelphia. most areas to the south will stay dry. the chance of showers comes in late tonight and by early in the morning you might have a few sprinkles. these are light scattered showers at best. the cold front comes through. it starts to drop the temperatures tomorrow morning. down to 53 degrees at 7:00 in the morning. look at the 40s at 7:00 as clouds start to move back in from the north. same system spinning some clouds and scattered light showers by lunchtime tomorrow. tomorrow afternoon showers spread into south jersey and delaware. there is a chance we'll see thunderstorm activity around the central new jersey river during the afternoon or late afternoon and early evening at 6:00.

most of the rest of the area is dry. by late in the evening tomorrow we'll be clearing out. for today 72 degrees this afternoon. lots of sunshine and a chance of a late evening shower and then the scattered showers during the afternoon on saturday. cooler tomorrow, just 66 degrees but with the showers out of the picture, sunshine, 70 on sunday. it begins a warming trend which will have us in the upper 70s. we barically have any clouds for monday, tuesday and wednesday. it continues dry on thursday. it is 80 degrees on friday. right around 80 on saturday. a little bit warmer on sunday before the next round of showers could come in next weekend. critics have called it the best musical of the century. now carousel is takes you through with memorable songs. here to tell us about it is
