the man sentenced to 10 years in prison for the death of his son. i'm jacqueline london. despite his guilty plea not everyone thinks he actually killed his child. for that, let's get right to nbc 10's reporter who 0 spoke to family members. some still defending him. >> reporter: jacqueline, that's right. his father in fact told me little brendan was quote snatched out a thin air and not by his own son. he still doesn't believe he committed this crime. he says he will fight till the day he dies for answers to and to defend his son's innocence. >> 24-year-old dj enter the croom to be sentenced. it's nearly two years to the date and for 14 minutes today a video commanded silence. a video collage of precious moments in his life.

accused killer is over tonight. mr. carpenter was taken into custody this afternoon. the they found him hiding in a house on baltimore avenue. they say he shot and killed another man in a popular part of town near main and bridge streets around 10:00 last night. they've identify the the victim as a 20-year-old. police say the two knew each other and had been in h an argument just before the killing. friends are remembering that victim. >> he was a good friend, always a comedian. tried to do something to make you laugh, smile. make sure you were happy. he was there for you. >> tonight, at 7:00, friends and family of the victims plan on gathering at the murder scene for a candle light vigil. breaking news from capitol hill, a member of president trump's cabinet resigns over a controversy that involves your tax dollars and a flight into

philadelphia. health and human services tom price is out tonight. et's get to the breaking news center with the latest on this revolving door at the white house erin? >> reporter: the president is moving quickly on this one. he has already accepted price's resignation and the acting secretary will take over tonight. the price made national head lines this week after he used tens of thousands of dollars in taxpayer money for private flights. price said he plans to pay back the money used for those flights, which was more than $50,000. the president has not commenced publicly since the resignation became official but here's what he said when asked earlier in the day. >> look, i think he's a very fine person. i certainly don't like the optics. i saved hundreds of millions of dollars, so i don't like the optics. the president plans to designate don wright to serve as the acting secretary. he is the current deputy assistant secretary.

live. ice has become a hot commodity in puerto rico. check out this long line of people hoping for a bag. many waited for hours, ice is their only hope for keeping their food from spoiling. since there is almost no electricity on the island. today, president trump said he is sending hundreds of trucks to move mounds of cargo stuck at puerto rican ports. a shortage of truck drivers has left supplied with no one to distribute them. on top of that, a lack of fuel has slowed the movement of aid to the people who need it. >> puerto rico was flattened. and a big decision comes as to what are we going to do. but i'm there to help. in philadelphia, some protests feel angry that help isn't getting to puerto rico quickly enough. they want the federal government to do more. let's bring in nbc's reporter.

nbc 10 news. >> today, new jersey governor chris christy signed an executive order to send 1100 emergency responders to puerto rico. christie says he' returning the generosity his state received after hurricane sandy. >> we wanted to be one of the first states to step forward in a significant way. >> new jersey is deploying help to puerto rico for six weeks, and they will extend that if necessary. a basement in camden county has become a donation hub for hurricane maria victims. the woman who lives at this home has been gathering supplies for puerto rico over the past week. she says she has been overwhelmed by the response. u.s. new jersey senator says the devastation he has seen in puerto rico is overwhelming. this h is a photo of him meeting and hugging the island's governor. he says he's there to help however he can. the he left yesterday from his

what caused the crash last month. dozens of passengers were hurt after a train couldn't stop and crashed into an empty train at the 69th street transportation center. a preliminary report said the operator reported slippery tracks just before the crash. a bucks county woman is accused of killing her ex-boyfriend. police say she first tried to make it look like a robbery and later pointed the finger at her current boyfriend. jennifer morrissy is facing murder charges. police say she killed 64 boyfriend bag in august after he kicked her out of his home. investigators say she returned to the scene hours later to make it look like someone had robbed the place. they also say they found the series of threatening text messages to him on morrissy's phone. >> you have a choice. touch my stuff or i cut your
