>> jacqueline london is live in las vegas tonight gathering the stories of survivors, witnesses, also first responders. it's still hard to make sense of this rampage when there's still no clear motive. >> just as much as people don't want to utter his name, they still want to know more about him. the man inside his mind, to try to some answers and attempt ss make some sense of it when they know that will never be the case. neighbors say stephen paddock was quirky, quiet, but a nice guy. they say a nice guy. that was the perception, but they know that was the furthest thing from reality. we are starting to get new information coming to light a aboutç the gunman. we want to give you that information right now. officials today said paddock work ed as a letter carrier for nearly a decade in the '70s and '80s. video shows the blown out doors of the hotel room. one of the weapons right there

on the floor. these images have not been independently verified by law enforcement. we have learn ed that investigators are very interested in paddock's finances. officials say he gambled more than $10,000 in casinos in the past few months, but those reports do not indicate whether he lost the money. >> something happened in his head. the man i knew two weeks ago is no longer the guy who did that. >> law enforcement says paddock purchased gun stocks that allow a rifle to fire like an au automatic weapon. nbc news has cob firmed that the girlfriend left the united states for the philippines on september 25th. she has family tie there is and is expected to travel back to the u.s. tomorrow. paddock transferred $100,000 to

robbery suspect's car. it happened at exit 4. what have you learned? >> reporter: i can tell you we're actually standing ob the property of this shopping center. so this retail suspect didn't get far. i want you to take a lookç befe the emergency crews wrap up here. it happened at this intersection. the jeep that you're seeing on this flat bed is, in fact, the suspect's vehicle. police tell us that he was traveling to get away from this robbery, this walmart southbound on route 13 when he blew this red light striking two vehicles and this jeep actually rolled a 2-year-old little boy was thrown from the vehicle. witnesses reported to police that the toddler was lying in the roadway. earlier today sky force 10 was high above as police and emergency crews first responded to the scene. the suspect was not being chased.

it's also unclear what ep relationship the suspect is to the little boy. and they can't say whether or not the child was buckled into a car seat. just moments ago we spoke to the police chief who told us what happened right after the crash. >> the suspect stepped over and fled the scene. officers apprehended him a short distance from the crash. they brought him back and then they began life-saving measures on the child. >> and sadly those efforts failed. if you look closely at this suv, you can see the entire back windows are blown out of this car. the boy was pronounced dead atd the hospital. the suspect is considered under arrest but he was taken to the hospital for evaluation. police also confirmed that no one else in those two other vehicles were hurt.

those two people are cooperating considered witnesses in this crash. police here want to anyone else who saw anything related to this particular crash to come forward. . they'd like to hear from you. i'm cydney long, nbc 10 news. president trump is in puerto rico today tour iing the devastation from hurricane maria. trump and the first lady met with resident who is are still picking up the piece there is. the president's visit comes as his administration is under fire for its response to the u.s. territories. the president says the government has done a good job responding to the devastation, but now he says it's time for puerto rican b officials to step up. >> you have thrown our budget a little out of whack because we spent a lot of money on puerto rico and that's fine. we saved a lot lyes. >> the president also raised eyebrow when is he compared the storm to hurricane katrina. he said only 16 people died in the storm, it could have been a

in society hill. it happened near 2nd. the woman was taken to the hospital. right now we are wait iing for update on her condition. take a look at this. a man caught on camera robbing a dollar general in philadelphia with that large knife at hisside. it happened late last month. police say the suspect jumped the counter demanding money from a co-work er. he took off with more than $200. the water is back to normal at an elementary school in delaware county. glenwood elementary, you might remember, went five days without water after officials found rust. water crews were able to flush it out and the school superintendent tells us everything is back to normal. lawmakers in washington grilled the former head of equifax. they want to know how they fwot away with the information of 146 million americans. >> we know this criminal attack was made possible because a

we'll hear from him in a moment. first, let's check back in with jacqueline london. >> you have new information about the investigation. >> reporter: we do. today we are getting our first glimpse at paddock's hotel room. not long after the massacre. take a look. on the left of your screen, you can see one of the weapons there on the floor and the crime scene tape behind the hotel room door. within the last hour, the sheriff says paddock put a camera outside his hotel room. investigators were looking for evidence and clues that may help them determine stephen paddock's motive. one local man was so close to the shooter at the hotel, he thought those bullets were coming through his hotel room. >> ben sweeney is from the lehigh valley in vegas for a work conference. not even five hours in, he found themselves himself in the same hotel where he fired shot after shot. >> they came down las vegas

remembering rock and roll legend tom petty. he died last night of cardiac arrest. the news hit fans hard in philadelphia. he just performed at the wells fargo center in july. tributes have been pouring into. local radio stations all day long. brandon hudson spoke to a dj who was one of the first to play his music in philadelphia. >> it's a wild day. >> most radio stations have a collection of tom petty's hilts, but at wwmr, there's a catalog of personal station i.d.s. >> we probably have more station i.d.s from tom petty that be any other artist.

became a sniper's perch in the deadliest shooting in modern u.s. history. we have just learned the shooter in the las vegas massacre put a camera in this food service cart outside his hotel room. good evening, i'm jacqueline london live in las vegas tonight. the fbi is still processing that hotel room. right now we know that all but three of the concert victims have been identified. in philadelphia a vigil is beginning right now to honor those who were killed and those who survived this massacre. you're looking live in center city where the memorial is just beginning. we'll go to our reporter live there in just a moment. but first we're learning more about who the suspect was as investigators try to figure out why he plotted this massacre. investigators say paddock was known to be a heavy bler who wagered in access of $10,000 in
