themselves in our shoes. >> schools are hoping for the best but beginning to prepare for the worst. aundrea cline-thomas, nbc 10 news. >> now this developing story. a congressman from the pittsburgh area is resigning amid-reports that he asked his mistress to get an abortion. tim murphy will step down on october 21st. the announcement comes after a newspaper published text messages indicating the congressman asked his mistress to get an abortion when he thought she was pregnant. turned out, she wasn't. murphy has been a strong critic of abortion. a man wanted for murdering a family member in the lehigh valley is under arrest after a three-hour standoff. sky force was overhead as police arrested 61-year-old john han in his truck. the standoff sent three schools into lockdown. >> it's scary. it's happening in my own

neighborhood and school. >> he shot and killed his cousin and wounded the wife ob wednesday night. they believe the shooting stems from a financial issue. a chester county paramedic is accused of touching a child inappropriately. >> it happened during a career development ride along program with that paramedic. nbc 10's deanna durante is live. what have you learned about this? >> reporter: the man's lawyer says he is is and plans to fight the charges and questions why the teen would stay inç the ambulance until the end of the shift. this teen had no choice. the man basically took him to remote area and had to wait hours before he could come here and report the alleged crime. >> i hope if someone had inappropriate contact they do come forward. >> they want to know more about this man. a long-time pairic who works for delaware and chester county and

thomas jefferson hospital. tonight thomas jefferson says mason is now on leave pending the outcome of an investigation. mason is accused of molesting a teen boy on a ride along in august. >> our victim wakes up feeling mr. mason massaging his genitals outside the pants. and hears mr. mason say something to the effect of he wanted to perform oral sex ob him. >> there was no answer at mason's condo. neighbors say off camera they don't know much about him. his attorney says over the phone he denies the allegations and says the teen continued working the shift with him. the victim didn't have much of a choice because the alleged assault happened in a remote area. one that's 400 acres of woods and trails. police say what makes it worse, the victim looked up to mason because he, too, wanted to be a helicopter emt. >> mr. mason was a mentor that

discuss tropical storm nate and how it could affect us. >> now for the latest in the las vegas shooting. late this afternoon the nra endorsed tighter restrictions on bump stocks. the gunman used the devices in the massacre. they allow a rifle to fire bullets as fast a machine gun. the motive isn't clear, but the deadly attack was premeditated. jim rosenfield is live in the breaking news center with brand new information we're learning about the shooter. >> we have justed some of what to fbi. she said he lie in moaning and scream, oh, my god. that's according to two former fbi officials. paddock may have been in some sort of physical or mental anguish. we also learned today paddock researched possible attack locations in boston and chicago. he went as far as booking a hotel room in chicago back in early august, but he didn't show up. that was the same weekend as the lol la plooz is a music

festival. he also searched around fenway park there's no indication he traveled to boston or chicago and still no indication as to why he chose las vegas. this as we're learning all of this we're getting new video from the night of the massacre. in this video taken from just outside the concert venue, you hear the gunshots and see the people rushing for cover here. it was taken by raymond page, a traffic systems technician. he was working nearby that night and drove right into the chaos. he ended. uptaking eight people to the hospital in his work truck. you can see people putting them in the back of that truck. the sheriff is also saying he believes paddock had some sort of help. investigators trying to identify a mystery woman seen with him in the days before the massacre. they also found about 1600 rounds of ammunition in his car.

>> we look for actual indicators of affiliation of motive and intent and so far we don't have those indicators. >> we'll get to the bottom of this. no matter how long it takes. >> authorities also investigating whether paddock rented several units at a high-rise in las vegas overlooking a larger music festival called life is beautiful. that was the weekend before the country music festival. and we have this new information just in from the associate d press. investigators looking into the possibility that paddock planned more attacks including a car bomb. that's the latest live in our breaking news center, jim rosenfield, nbc 10 news. back to you. now at 5:00, body armor, 200 rounds of ammunition and an assault rifle. that's what investigators found in a student's car in scranton. tonight he faces charges for bringing a loaded to the campus in scranton. he admitted to having suicidal thoughts and said he never intended to hurt anyone.

the expressway is open again after a deadly crash early this morning. it shut down 76 eastbound for more than five hours. a motorcyclist died after colliding with the car in the eastbound lanes 3:30 this morning. philadelphia police investigating a shooting that left one person dead in strawberry mansion. this happened at north dover street around 11:30. a man died, other victims are stable. one of them is a 17-year-old boy. a warning for customers who used an atm at a lawn crest 7-eleven. someone installed a skimming day delaware vice at 5800 rising sub is avenue. this is video you're watching of the man police are looking for. the device was fitted over the card and cash slots and allowed whoever put that tl to intercept debit card information and pins. a $7 million development project now ready to help bring

here's the latest on the crisis in puerto rico. the government says it's slowly making progress distributing aid across the island. some communities are still waiting to get power on, clean water and food.

the governor says nearly 80% of gas stations are open. 70% of supermarkets are back in business. there's still slow progress at phone service and safe drinking water. firefighters and members of the national guard are doing their best to the water crisis. they are trying to remove huge blocks that are block iing the water channel. sky force 10ç was here over th barge loaded with supplies for puerto rico. it's filled with a million meals, 2 million liters of water and 200 trucks. it's scheduled to arrive in san juan next wednesday. and federal credit union doing its part. they set up collection boxes in all of their branches to raise money to support the victims of puerto rico. a term that gez back decades in philadelphia. now they are closer to declaring

69 in mount pocono because the cloud cover and showers approaching there. 79 in atlantic city. 80 in vineland. dover, it's 80 degrees for you as well. just spectacular out there. we have high, thin clouds in place. no rain in our area yet. harrisburg, you're looking at the showers and some isolated thunderstorms moving in. that's going to just continual ly going to progress to the east. we have dry air in place. some of this will fall apart. there could be spotty showers for the upper pennsylvania suburbs. you can see the cloud cover in place. but look at it as it begins to shrink. it's because of the very dry air in place. it's all associated with a huge storm system that's been coming out of the midwest and the great plains for days now. but what we're going to focus on is two things. we're going to focus on the air pattern and what's going on in the tropics. so let's start first with this

air pattern. we have this warm air here. we have the jet stream separating the cold air and look what happens as we go through the next five days. it really digs in in the western united states and we get even warmer here in the eastern university and then we get the push of high pressure right here. what's going to happen? let's go down to the caribbean and take a look at nate. this is tropical storm now moving across nicaragua.ç nate is going to move off to the northwest. strengthen into what is expected to become a category 1 hurricane. could make landfall along the gulf. they have it going toward new orleans. and then between this jet stream, this trough of cold air and the ridge of high pressure, it turns bringing the remnant rain right over philadelphia. that could be next monday and tuesday. so let's break down your hour by

hour forecast. we're going to be looking at temperatures well into the 70s tonight with a spotty shower perhaps through the late evening hours. tomorrow up to 81 with west and southwest winds. it doesn't stop. near 80 on saturday. on sunday we could approach 80, but also see the spotty showers moving the area. if you're going to the eagles game, you'll need to grab the rain gear. here comes monday and tuesday with possibly the remnant rain from tropical storm nate. so that's something we'll have to keep a close eye on. so this is what we're goig to be looking at for tonight. your neighborhood forecast at 66 in philadelphia. 62 in south jersey. 62 in delaware. tomorrow we'll see the high, thin clouds in place, but we'll be looking at 81. 76 along the jersey shore. more in a few minutes. $4 million worth of drugs pulled off the streets with a hid rn stash was uncovered.

and left a mess behind. now the woman says she can't get rid of the bear smell in her car. she's definitely going to lock her car from now on. a great picture right there. a fast food worker is accused of running a drug ring out of a mcdonald's he managed. police officers in new york busted the 26-year-old. they say he sold nearly $11,000 in crack cocaine to an undercover officer. investigators say he put the drugs in a cookie bag. which he then placeed in a larger bag with burgers and fries. in new jersey tomorrow is the second annual knockout opioid abuse day. 2,000 residents, students, experts and lawmakers will be hitting the streets to talk about the danger of prescription pain pills. students at drex el university printed out their

resumes for this fall career fair. more than 200 employers were ob campus to recruit this afternoon. drexel university is one of the largest career fairs among colleges in the philadelphia area. and veterans were in demand at this career fair in south jersey. this job fair was exclusively for them. more than 30,000 employers interviewed veterans. that man there is my father. the event helped 139 veterans find jobs last year. mini libraries are popping up in stores in west philadelphia. they are called community book depots. and today was inside leroy's barbershop.

>> in kent county, delaware, two high school students were suspended over this photograph that took off on social media. it shows the mascot holding a sign with the racial slur. the two students involved will not face criminal charges. we have all been stuck in traffic jams, but one this morning was caused by an unusual incident. check it out. thisway ward cow is discovered the cow strolling along. the post from the new jersey state police among the nbc 10 app. the attorney general has filed a lawsuit against the largest student loan company. the corporation issued predatory student loans. the company has more than a thousand complaints filed against it in pennsylvania

himself has launched an initiative to bring housing to temple's campus. it's a place where students working to stay sober can live and support one another with the resources they need to achieve their goals. the student is working with temple officials to create a proposal and raise money to launch the effort. >> voice command and touch screens are certainly a convenience, but it can be distracting. a new study found drivers using in-vehicle technology features were visually and mentally distracted for more than 40 seconds at a time. >> what we're seeing now is we're putting too much technology that's distracting at the fingertips of the driver and making what were simple interactions more complex. >> the study involves 30 new vehicles from the model year. turning to your thursday night forecast. clear and comfortable evening

we have some showers and storms. a lot of this is has fallen apart. look at how robust it was a couple hours ago. now it's move iing into the dri air mass in place. what we're going to wind up with tonight is just some scattered so isolated showers mainly in upper pennsylvania suburbs, places likeç doylestown. i don't think this is going to make it into philadelphia or delaware or south jersey or out toward the shore. if you're in the outlying areas, maybe carry an umbrella with you. tomorrow we're going to make it back to 80 degrees. a mix of sun and clouds out there. we have a frontal boundary draped to the north of us. we're still in the warm sector on saturday. look at the winds out of the south. taking us again into the low 80s across much of the area. it gets interesting. we start to see a push of moisture and the front kind of

developments. let's start with the bomb plot. >> some of this information coming into the newsroom in the last hour. a federal official says they are looking into the shooter was planning additional attacks including a car bombing. authorities previously said paddock had 1600 rounds of ammunition in his car along with fertilizer that can be used to make explosives. we have also learned paddock may have scoped out other music festivals including others in las vegas. they also say he researched hotels around boston's fenway park. and late this afternoon we learned some of what paddock's girlfriend told the fbi. she would lie in bed moaning and screaming, oh my god, that's according to two former fbi officials. investigators believe paddock may h
