toll from hurricane maria has now risen no 36. meanwhile relief efforts continue on the island and here in our area. today students indoing their pa out. randy is live. tell us what's happening out there today. >> reporter: good morning, ge to the charter school is onemany h. cash donations are preferred since it is hard to get items to the island. in this case they are asking for schoolsupplies. own a towing co. you can see bottled goods, inse. it has been extremely difficult to get largeik this to the devastated parts of from.

there is a shortage of truck drivers. this school worker tells us she hoping to get items and driven to some of the isolated towns and cities. >> i have family members and they could go into the port and out of the port. it is really heartbreaking knowing you could do more and we need all of the support we can to support our island. >>. >> reporter: so this is a rare opportunity to take some of the supplies to come help out here. this donation drive goes until about 3:00 today. they will be picking up supplies. they are cooking up volunteers. authentic food as they ship a lot of supplies to really needed

places in puerto rico. firefighters spent the last few hours. it was over the home around 9:30 just after those crews got the flames there out. there are no reports anyone in the home was hurt. meanwhile the philadelphia fire marshal is investigating the cause of a church fire. that fire destroyed the baptist church at 21st and reed streets. crews did put out the flames. no one was hurt in this blaze either. >> a school is closed after mold was discovered in the classrooms hallway and library. last night parents with the board of education an earful after they reported the problem in williams town. one mother says her son got sick

at that school 20 years ago. she claims there was a mold issue even then. >> i forced him to go to school. i didn't know there was a mold problem. when i went to the school and saw it in his classroom and complained they had solved that problem. >> students will be bussed to other schools in that district when classes resume on tuesday. they say crews will clean holly glenn and clean ac units. the school may be closed until early next year. now to the latest, 58 white crosses now lined the road below the iconic welcome sign. they brought it to honor the victims who died. he has done the same thing after mass murders in new town and orego

orlando. he may have scoured other targets. after looking at his browsing history they found research on other music festivals in las vegas and chicago. he even booked a room in a chicago hotel but didn't show up there. they are looking into whether paddock was planning a car bombing as well. he had 1,600 rounds of ammunition along with fertilizer which can be used to make explosiv explosives. investigators are learning more from his girlfriend. the fbi has nod identified a clear motive for that deadly mass shooting. the national rifle association says it supports a

restriction that allowed paddock to rapid fire his gun. the nra joins president trump, the speaker of the house and local lawmakers who all say they support restrictions. it makes automatic rifles. investigators found a dozen bump stocks. here at home a gun shop owner says he is getting calls about bump stocks but doesn't have any available. >> you do it in a controlled environment. i don't see anything wrong with it. >> there is no reason why any e

anyone. one dealer told us you may not see bump stocks for sale there because they are not something a large majority of gun owners would buy. an arizona man says he received mixed feed back after he posted a photo of himself turning guns into police on social media. it turns negative. he says he even got death threats. the man says the tragedy in las vegas moved him to hand over his weapons. thousands of so called dreamers eligible for renewed protection from deportation may have missed the deadline to apply. they estimate around 36,000 young people covered by daca or the deferred action for childhood arrivals program had not met yesterday's deadline to put in their applications.

happening right now the philadelphia sheriff is signing a new transgender policymaking it the first sheriffs department in pennsylvania with such a policy. this new guideline aimed to guarantee constitutional rights and ensure individuals are treated with dignity when they are arrested and put into police custo custody. a ground break getting underway for a new community center in chinatown's section. we got a preview of what it will look like. that's 17,000 square foot community center on vine street. we'll have a state of the art basketball court along with commercial space and 150 housing

degrees first thing this morning. a few clouds, up to 80 at 2:00. we'll stay in the low 80s through the 5:00 hour. lehigh valley got some clouds breaking for sunshine. suburbs 73 degrees with scattered clouds. it is going to warm into the upper 70s this afternoon possibly near 80 degrees this afternoon. what you won't see today is any wet weather. it would stay dry right on through the day. this evening will be dry as well. you don't have to look far to find the rain that is moving into the ohio valley. this will miss us. this is part of a system that is going to impact us on sunday then come monday and tuesday we'll be watching for the remnants of nate. nate is farther to the south and already strengthening. i'll show you where nate is

a california man will be arraigned today. the deputy called to the store because the man was being disruptive. when the man refused to get to the ground the officer used a stun gun on him. the video shows the man attacking him. the man gets into a car and rams the deputy's patrol car. the suspect was eventually arrested and now faces several charges. hollywood executive harvey weinstein after a report reveals he sexually harassed women for decades. they confirmed board members plan to meet today to talk about his future. it includes personal accounts of his alleged misconduct against employees and even ashley judd.

she talked about an incident where she was asked to go to his hotel room the times reports at least eight women have received settlements from him over the years. his attorney says it is saturated can false and defamatory statements. there is a new app you should know about. experts say that app could mange it easier for kids to cyber bully their classmates. the social media app targets adults but it has been gaining popularity with teens. it allows users to send anonymous messages to give feed back to friends. >> that leaves rooms for lots and lots of problems because anonymity is a licensed to be mean. >> the store states users must be 17 years and older to download the app. you can protect younger users by

atlantic city at 74 degrees. likely see some neighborhoods reach into the 80s. parts of south jersey close to that. in the 70s in the lehigh valley. we saw some areas of fog but the fog is long gone and it's sunshine for the rest of the day with a few scattered fair weather clouds. on the verge of hitting 80 in port richmond. unusually warm for this time of year. we will reach into the low 80s. partly to mostly sunny skies. a few thin clouds but rain will wait until later in the weekend. sunshine up to 79 degrees. if you're looking for sunshine and delaware in south jersey you'll find plenty of it during the day today.

we are borrowed time. it might last on through the weekend and turns cooler next week. it is still above average. that's the average high which is 70 degrees. now late in the week we will go cooler than that. before that happens we are in for wet weather. the wet weather is still well to the west. it will stay to the west over the next couple of days. watching it here there's a developing system, a cold front that will swing into the area for us on sunday. the first of those showers could arrive sunday morning which means today, tonight all day tomorrow would be dry and 11:00 tomorrow night it will be dry. just scattered clouds on saturday. come sunday you can see that cold front finally making progress at 11:00 in the morning. we'll see that cold front reaching into central pennsylvania. we may get a few scattered

get safe drinking water and electricity. local students are pitching in to help. randy is live. tell us what's happening out there today. >> sood morning. it is one that's popping up over the area. it is so difficult a school administrator here actually owns a towing company. she as access to trucks on the island of puerto rico. she has contacts with a shipping company. they organized this massive effort asking for things like batteries and first aid items to be dropped off outside of the high school here. for weeks it has been extremely difficult to get large supplies like this many communities still

cut off from road access. with this fleet of tow trucks she is hoping to get supplies t helping out those isolated towns and cities. >> i decided to help my family and friends that live in puerto rico and take food directly to tom of t some of the towns that are really in need. so you can bring it here outside the supplies any time before 3:00. they are also raising cash donations as well. a lot of folks with connections to puerto rico. >> lending a helping hand to families in puerto rico.

president mean? that is the question being asked this morning after president trump said quote it's the calm before the storm. the president made the cryptic remark during a photo session with his top military advisers at the white house last night. mr. trump asked reporters. >> do you know what this represents? >> you'll find out. >> it wasn't immediately clear whether he was referring to a military area of concern fighting isis or iran's nuclear program or if the president was simply making a joke about the dinner that followed photo session. we are hearing from paul ryan after a pennsylvania congressman said he will resign following a scandal. republican tim murphy will step down on october 21st. text messages show the pro-life

congressman asked his mistress to get an abortion. murphy allegedly told the woman that his offices wrote his anti abortion messages. they a caused him of creating a hostile work environment. house speaker ryan says he has spoken with murphy. >> i have spoken with him quite a bit the last couple of days. i think it's appropriate that he moves onto the next chapter of his life and i think he agrees with that. >> murphy represents several outside of pittsburgh. his office won't confirm or deny the authenticity of the text or that memo. tom wolf must schedule a special election to fill the remainder of the two-year term. next year's primary and general elections will determine who holds the seat in the 2019/2020

term. in-state tuition is in trouble because lawmakers are caught in a battle over budget funding. it impacts temple, lincoln, pit and pens veterinary school. the money is being held up because lawmakers still haven't been able toress a $2 billion gap in the state budget. one effected school may potentially increase tuition for in-state opportunities. another says it is being conservative with cash now to prepare far worst case scenario while still hoping for the best. >> it makes you feel like you're not safe and locked in. >> you to figure something out, come to a compromise. >> the last deal to fund the gap fell flat earlier this week. for now no new negotiations having lanplanned.

they won't return for nearly two weeks. the widow of a delaware state trooper is working to keep her husband's legacy alive. steven ballard was shot and killed in the line of duty back in april. now his widow has started a program called ballard's reading buddies. >> i think it's really important that kids know from a young age you should follow your heart and do what you love and get exposure to other jobs. >> she is a lawyer with our parent company comcast which is also supporting that program. she is hoping they can soon take it to other schools as well. now to stories that are making headlines county by county. first to chester county where a paramedic accused of molesting a teenaged boy. the alleged assault happened during a career development ride

along pr along program back in august. mason is now charged with indecent assault and corruption of a minor. he denies anything happened. police say they are determined about a sexual assault. is actually false. they say the victim admitted she made up her story and there's no threat to the public. to south jersey and this search far road rage driver police say this is a sketch of a man who pulled a gun on a pedestrian. the victim says that driver nearly ran him over on tuesday then pulled a gun when the pedestrian confronted him. police believe the driver was in a nissan rogue. a racial slur could get two fro center of that

controversy. it shows the mascot holding a sign with the racial slur. it was posted on social media. officials say the students involved have currently been suspended. po they will not f charges. well, usually the end of summer means fewer bugs but a new report suggests we'll be seeing a lot more pests than usual into the fall. they say ticks and mosquitos will continue to drive. it is mostly due to the ongoing heat in some regions like here in our area and flooding in other parts of the country. the report also says you may see more of the usual fall season pests like mice and rats. taking another live look outside as we check the weather this morning. a nice look at the ben franklin

monday into tuesday. nate is to pass by cosumel. it is likely to happen by saturday afternoon at 1:00. over the open waters and very warm weatherers the strengthening will continue. and by late saturday night or early on sunday morning this computer model suggests it's late saturday night is when it could gain hurricane strength, 80 miles per hour winds are possible. it moves inland. as it does it will weaken. look at all of that moisture. that will be heading to the northeast. it looks like it's coming our way. the first round of rain arrives during the day on sunday. by sunday evening we are not looking at a lot of rain here. 17 hundredths of an inch for philadelphia and about the same

for allentown. the moisture from nate comes in. the first of it comes in on monday. about half an inch or more in philadelphia by then. the heavier rain is potentially coming into the picture monday night and tuesday morning. by tuesday morning if it stays ton the path we are looking at more than 2 inch of rain in allentown. more than an inch and a half in phil fi. the area that will likely see the least rain in our area will be the jersey shore under half an inch for cape may. before we get to the rain we have lots of nice weather. it will be warm on sunday up to 80 degrees. the rem nonts from name come monday into tuesday. we'll get some showers and potentially thunderstorms. we'll see the skies start to

neighborhood festivals out there? >> thanks for having us. it is different than a lot of festivals. it is from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. we try to make it focus on what the neighborhood has to offer. when you see vendors they are either business owners or selling products sold in the stores in old city. our restaurants are largely independently owned. many will be participating. it is really everything old city has. it is all in one space. >> okay. kind of putting old city on display, letting people know what's not that far away from where they live i guess? >> exactly. e galleries out on the streets, whether it's clay throwing exhibitions or center for art and wood having wood turning exhibitions and also family fun zone that is great for kids to come down and enjoy what the neighbor had has as

well. >> and people think of visit philly. in a city wide ka pass capacityd you get involved in this? >> we received a grant to shine more of a light ton historic district, which we think goes from the river to 7th street and from lum bard over to vine. this is a pefrlt example of what we want to do to raise awareness, to draw people to the district so they can see more of the things to see and do, all of the merchants joe was talking about, experience it and stay a little bit longer, which contributes -- >> keep them around. >> absolutely. >> and food is top of the ticket. you guys have some good options for foodies who might be coming out on monday, right? >> we absolutely do. we have some old city classics
