side today. krystal klei is keeping up with changing temperatures. she is here with your most accurate forecast. >> yeah. we are looking at spots of rain across the region. this is a view over philadelphia. gray sky. there is one little peek of sunshine. you can only see one more right there. there are breaks in the clouds. this will be a mostly cloudy day. look at radar and satellite. this is near bucks county and then just clipping along the northern edge of our viewing area. it is parts of the wilmington area too. this is not a lot of rain. we have been seeing all morning long these little pockets moving through. here is a closer look at some of the showers. you see princeton some spotty showers rolling by too. this is light green and south of

wilmington. light rainfalling and the closer look here. these areas have seen the most rain so far today. it hasn't been terribly high accumulations. just maybe a quarter of an inch by the time everything is said and done. as for temperatures, we are in the 70s right now. we'll stay pretty much right around here the rest of the day we'll talk more about that coming up in a few minutes. a young woman's body was found dumped in the woods. someone found her body sunday. it was in a wooded area off of riegal road. they determined she was murdered but how and why is the mystery this morning. she went to high school in reading. we talked to one of her friends. >> you only try to think of the good memories, of course.

that's really what i'm blessed with. >> investigators are not saying if there is a person of interest at this time. they are waiting on toxicology results which could take several weeks. philadelphia police looking at surveillance impajs to try to catch a gunman. it happened in south philadelphia just before 11:00 last night. police tell us the shooter used a large caliber weapon and fired at least eight shots. they believe one of them is the gunman. all of the victims are in stable condition. take a look at this terrifying new video. a robber pointing a gun directly in the face of a worker at t the felton minimarket. police telling us all tips are confidential. and now to breaking traffic news in delaware. an overturned tanker truck in

townsend. it appears to be leaking some sort of fluid. investigators say the liquid or the road is closed in both directions and could be for some time because it is a hazmat situation. jessica boyington also checking out a problem. >> right i want to get back to this in a second. it is breaking news because it is brand new right now. i watched an accident around vare avenue. we are starteding to see the drive time creep up too. it is already at 12 minutes. i am seeing huge back-ups. a few vehicles involved. since it just happened there is no order to what's going on. cars are moving through to the center lane which is a sticky spot. we are losing two lanes on either side. everybody is trying to merge

together. average speed is down into the 20s. it is including this right here. so watching that around vare avenue pretty big delays there. now, remember, route 1 northbound is closed. that's between route 13 and route 299 on the southbound side. north and south are closed between exit 119 and exit 136. there will be a lot in the way there. you can take route 13 to get by. expect delays there. back to you. 17 dead, hundreds of homes and businesses destroyed and still no end in sight to the raging wild fires in northern california. they are spread over a 200 mile region from napa to reading. take a look at a sheriff's deputy. he is surrounded on all sides by fire. it looks like he is in a tunnel of fire there.

the deputies shot it to illustrate the conditions he and other fire personnel are facing. incredible. these photos show dramatic before and after injuries. a lush green landscape and now it is nothing but rocks and rubble. the houses are all gone. nbc 10 jay gray is live for us where thousands of families are waiting to see if their homes are gone, jay. >> reporter: you're absolutely right. that scene you described stretches across northern california right now. everywhere you look it seems there is ash and rubble. more evacuations have been ordered across the county this morning. as the sun fights through the haze over northern california fire teams continue their battle ton ground. >> there is several thousand firefighters out on the line right now. we have firefighters from san

diego to the oregon border. >> they continue to burn out of control stretching fire squads to their resources. >> 115,000 acres. on fire we are dealing with across california really puts it in perspective i. >> it is blamed for at least 17 death and close to 200 injuries, more than 100 people are still missing. >> our house is gone, guys. oh, my god, our house is gone. >> over 2,000 homes and businesses have been reduced to ash, entire neighborhoods wiped away. fires have taken hundreds of homes in southern california as well. back to the north wine country is in a state of emergency. at least four wineries burned to the ground. the grapes still on the vines. ren renee's family owns paradise ridge family.

tammy's eight-year-old son caleb. >> we were in that hospital room damped out with them. >> we see the tumor is in that portion of the skull. >> after months of unexplained symptoms an mri growing in caleb's brain. >> it is about the size of a lemon. the fluid portion may be the size of a large orange. >> in an eight-year-old boy's head? >> yeah. >> can you describe for me what your head was feeling like? >> it was feeling like someone was like shooting it or putting a knife in it or tearing it apart. >> it was a migraine headache. the first was so massive he woke up screaming in the morning. he threw up and went back to

sleep for several hours. >> what are you doing? >> cleaning the deck. >> what were you seeing in his behavior, demeanor, in his speech? >> it was little things. it was little things. he would get up from sitting down and he would get little wobbly and i said are you okay? he said daddy, i'm feeling a little dizzy. >> he said i can't read things close up. i thought let's go get your eyes checked. he had the eye check-up, perfect vision. when we took him to his pediatrician he didn't present with anything that was odd. >> it is a story we hear over and over and over again in that she a child that had symptoms that any kid could be complaining of. his primary care physician did everything he could to evaluate those symptoms. >> we could have saved him a lot

of pain and time and this was too close to call. >> with thousands diagnosed with the same time of tumor every year it is a close call they hope other parents don't have to face. >> look for normal happy children should not have severe migraine headaches and you should monitor that and every other sign. >> it is a low grade tumor. it is not highly malignant but it can be fatal. >> that's the direct caleb's case as pressure from the tumor and surrounding fluid wasser into fearing with his brain's normal functions. >> she said we needed to do this now. >> during seven hours of emergency surgery they removed the tumor and surrounding fluid sack. >> we were able to close everything up beautifully. he woke up perfect. he did great. >> he not only woke up perfectly but was a trooper in his

recovery and the headaches were gone. >> as you look at these images and the image on the left versus the image on the right how would you characterize the outcome here? >> the best outcome we could have expected surgically. >> do you feel like you're sort of coming up for air now? >> yeah. processing it and sort of starting to get back to a little bit of normalcy. >> and here he is running around your backyard playing baseball five weeks later. >> yes. it's hard to believe. it brings tears to my eyes. >> he's happy. he will be the first person to tell you today is a good day because he had a brain tumor and he doesn't have it anymore. >> he doing great. later today on nbc 10 at 4:00

his long-term prognosis and why they are sounding the alarm for more research the devoted to learning more about these tumors. >> we are all so happy caleb is okay. tammy is blogging every day on nbc10.com. you can get updates about her son and his treatments. all right. shifting gears now. let take a look at radar and satellite. what we have been seeing today is green across the region which is indicating scattered showers. nowhere is getting much rain right now. light showers along the eastern edge from mercer up to the lehigh valley. this is over new castle county and then staying with scattered showers. when you see the lighter green it is mostly a light rain.

it continues to pump from west to east. we have been calling for the on-off showers. the storm center itself is way over here. we have a cold front that's dipping down. we have moisture that's providing the moisture we need for spotty showers to develop. on top of that we had very humid air. lots of moisture gives us good potential for these types of showers. this is one of the latest updated models. at 2:00 p.m. a little better rain period. now this model has a tendency has to fill in. i think it won't be quite so steady but we will see some of that rain pass through. some of these showers dip down. notice south jersey might get a breather a little bit. overnight the rain does not necessarily end. it could pick up around 11:30

this evening and more rain will linger on and off as we go through your thursday. by thursday afternoon it will start to sink south. some of the suburbs may start to get a break from the rain. at least through thursday morning we'll see the showers. temperatures at 74 degrees in finally, washington and down to atlanta it's 80 degrees. what a difference, 30s and 40s right now. it will skirt our area into tomorrow. we have an east wind push and cooler air will seep in. today and tomorrow temperatures will finally start to fall and be a little closer to feeling like fall. take a look. 76 degrees today for us. we are already near the mid-70s. we won't see much warming near the day with spotty showers. it makes it harder to warm up. down to 66 on your thursday. that's slightly below average.

after many days we'll dip a bit. we have been talking roller coaster temps. this is perfectly averaged and dry by friday in philadelphia. for the suburbs 72 today and 63 by tomorrow and up to 67 friday and still cloudy. it is 71 today and 66 on friday with the lowest on thursday. new jersey looking at 76 today and 73 the jersey shore. many of us are close to these temperatures. you are not going to see a ton of warming but it is warmer than average. thursday across the board still going to see some rain especially near the shore but late friday showers could pick up again. here is a quick look at your temperatures. saturday into sunday the warm up, up to the low 80s by your sunday.

overcast skies and showers. you can take a look there. the rain is falling right now and we are getting a break from the 80-degree weather we have been having. crystal, it's feeling a lot different out there. >> yeah. we are noticing this gray skies and temperatures are not quite as rough as they have been. we have had six days in a row of 80 degree temperatures. the average is upper 60s. it is way warmer than average. look at the sky in delaware. very gray, kind of dark clouds.

not a ton of rain falling. look on radar and satellite here. it is very broken showers we see moving across the area. the best rain over cape may counties. those areas not seeing much but more rain to come from the west. take the wide view and it's kind of broken as it spreads across the board. there is still a good bit of rain. we are going to have chances of these on and off showers as we go through the afternoon and go through this evening even into tomorrow. they are impacted by the rain and clouds and because winds with coming in from the east. it is 74 in philadelphia and 73 atlantic city. wild wood at 69. temperatures are going to warm up maybe two or three more

degrees. take a look as we go through the next few hours here. we are tracking around 75. at 2:00 p.m. still cloudy and still the east wind. coming up in a few minutes we'll talk about how low they go before they pick back up for the weekend. now to breaking news, the president of the radner board of commissioners is now under arrest on child pornography charges. charged with numerous counts of distributing child porn as well as sexual abuse of children. we'll face a judge this afternoon. we'll have the latest on nbc 10 starting at 4:00. a new time line raises questions about whether police could have responded more quickly if they had had better communication from the mandlay bay hotel.

he shot at the security guard before he unleashed his gunfire on the concert crowd below. the hotel is disputing the new time line saying the investigation is still ongoing. this morning on the today show an engineer talked about being in the hallway when paddock opened fire on that hotel security guard. >> he yelled at me to take cover. as soon as i started to go to a door to my left the rounds started coming down the hallway. i could feel them pass behind my head. something hit me in the back and i took cover. i tried to think how i could get to jesus. i could see he was shot in the leg. i told myself wait for him. he is going to have to stop shooting some time. it was kind of relentless. >> that security guard who was shot said he called hotel

dispatch for help. they have not said whether anyone else in the hotel called 911 to report the hotel shooting. they honored the first responders of the deadly shooting massacre. an emotional tribute to the 58 people killed and hundreds more injured. >> to all of the brave first responders that have worked timelessly and courage usely throughout this tragedy, we thank you. >> police, fire, medical and military personnel escorted the players onto the ice. they say remembering the victims and community was far more important than remembering their first home game. >> downfall continues as his wife announces she is leaving him.

he has been at this church and seeking refuge here since donald trump was elected president. today he gets to return home to his family. that's javier walking out of the united methodist church. the 40-year-old father called philadelphia home since 1997. in that time he has been deported twice. each time he has returned. he had a deportation order and pending visa to remain here with his family. he took refuge in the church. the human rights organization helped the family navigate through this. >> he was the first person to go into sanctuary after trump was elected president. what that meant is no matter who

app. and we have a pretty good forecast for sunday as well. let's start with eastern pennsylvania. another gray sky overhead. all of us looking fairly cloudy. we will continue through the arn and into your thursday. we have all of the clouds and moisture over us. it is providing spotty showers. pretty isolated in nature. it was scattered in nature. it has kind of moved out now and we see sprinkles try to go move on into chester county and scattered rain over delaware moving into cumberland counties. again, it's not a lot of rain at this point. here is the best we have got. milford you're getting a little bit. this is starting to move over far few sprinkles there as well. i really don't think it's much rain at all. that light green showing up it is indicating very light rachblt

science and advocacy organization and does so much to raise awareness about the mysterious condition. derrick green and his wife are advocates for people with autism. their son julian has autism. tell us how it has impacted your life. >> so he was diagnosed at about age two. since he was diagnosed we have been trying to get him all of the services and help that he needs. he is doing very well. he is in high school now and she in a regular high school. it would be to the village in all of the different services that we have acquired for him over the course of his life. >> i imagine you have to learn what is this? >> absolutely. it was important for us to reach out and having a great village and people around us to support

us and learning about all of the great resources here has really been a blessing for us and a blessing far lot or a lot of fa. >> what do you think the biggest misson excepti misconception is? >> that that i can never do this or that. right now the media seems to be ablaze or shows a -- show children with autism living a very normal life. >> talk about some of the ways you're working to improve the lives of people right here in philadelphia. >> i think some of the work i'm doing we have the autism project where we are trying to use it as a way of bringing information together for families all throughout the region to find out about where you go to find a dentist or after school program.
