there will be plenty of girl scout meetings, boy scout meetings, all over the area and the scouts and parent leaders will definitely be talking about today es today's announcement. the head of the boy scouts pretty excited girls will be part of the organization soon. >> this will allow us to serve all youth in schools. >> reporter: despite a recent public feud with the girl scouts whose national leadership accused the boy scouts of trying to steal away their girls, chary rogers says this is about letting young families have kids of both genders in the same organization, meeting at the same times. >> families are busier than ever. more and more single-parent families. and convenience is one of their key decisions on deciding what programs to participate in. >> reporter: charlie says he doesn't think the boy scouts programs for girls will steal current girl scouts in brownies.

70 in wildwood. look at the rain. this is our realistic sky. yes, rain is falling off to the north and west near allentown. let's take a look at where we are going this evening. gray skies across philadelphia. no showers in the city yet. they are headed our way. we'll drop down to about 69 degrees with clouds at 8:00 tonight. sometime between 8:00 and 11:00 showers will develop and the winds will continue out of the east and we'll drop to 67. in the city, i think the overnight low will be closer to 60, 61 degrees. the outlying areas, could be much cooler. doppler radar is showing again in burks county, the lehigh valley. showers, maybe steadier rain taking place to the north of reading district. you have rain. allentown a bit of a break. pottstown, you have seen showers. to clinton, bridgewater, mo montgomery. more shower activity will pick up as it heads east ward.

this is just the first wave. behind it a bunch of showers will fill in. this storm system will take a few days to get past us. if you want another warmup, though, i have one to tell you about for the weekend. come on back for that in a few minutes. philadelphia police are investigating after a man was shot to death inside a car in strawberry mansion. the man was found with a gunshot wound to the head on west albert street just after 11:00 this morning. the victim, described as a 35 to 45-year-old man inside a white chrysler sebring. medics pronounced him dead at the scene. no arrests have been made. in west philly, a terrifying video of a robber pointing a gun directly in the face of a worker at the felton mini market. the crook got away with $200 yesterday morning at 9:30. all tips the police receive are confidential. police in upper darby released surveillance footage of

a robbery. the man dressed in black went behind the counter, got into an altercation with the clerk. they say he hit another store nearby. fortunately no one was hurt. slow going on route one in smyrna. the northbound lanes just reopened after being closed for more than six hours. a fuel truck overturned and spilled gasoline everywhere. it will be another half hour before the southbound lanes are open. a push from pennsylvania today to stop bullying. >> the state wants to make october bullying awareness month. a pennsylvania lawmaker held an anti-bullying event today in germantown. it feature the mark smith. he was attacked in germantown over the summer by a group of kids who were making fun of his disability. state representative steven kinsing. says the goal of the initiative is to stand up for victims. >> the message and simple and

it's been on the decline with the closing of the refineries and there's no jobs in the community. if there's no jobs, there's no education, there's no food on the table. what's important is the children. steve sweeney... he fought for 'em. this is where he's from. steve sweeney's been here since the beginning. steve spearheaded the whole project and really brought it to fruition. it would've never been done without steve. it was a pride in building this port and then knowing that we're coming back.

presidential visit in pennsylvania. right now president trump is in harrisburg to pitch his tax reform plan. nbc10's lauren mayk is there as well. lauren, explain why the president is here in pennsylvania. has to do with taxes, of course. >> reporter: yeah. he is looking to sell his tax plan, jim. he has been making stops around the country. this is his fourth one specifically on taxes. we are told there are a couple of reasons why they chose pennsylvania for this stop. now, one of the reasons is that he is returning to people he made promises to during the campaign. remember, he won pennsylvania. one woman i talked to today said to me, we put him in there to do

this. and there is another reason as well. he is also looking to round up votes for when this gets to capitol hill. he will need pennsylvania lawmakers to support this, both in the house and in the senate. and you may remember that, when it came to health care, they did not all support that. so there is also a legislative strategy that comes with this as well. we know a little bit about what the president will be talking about tonight. he is expected to present this as a win for the middle class, talking specifically about raising the standard deduction and making it simpler for people to file their taxes. and he is also going to talk specifically about how this will affect one particular industry in pennsylvania. and a particular group of workers. those are truckers. some truckers are expected to be here with him tonight. and we have been told that the benefits for them will be lower rates and then, if things go well with manufacturing, if the low -- rates are lowered for

manufacturers and they are able to make more american-made goods, then the truckers will have more goods to transport. we are also told that they specifically chose this hangar so that they could fit some trucks inside. now, we are waiting here to go inside that hangar. we are still in a holding area here. i see some activity around me right now. so it may be getting close to the time that we'll start to go over there to see the president. for now, live in middletown. lauren mayk. bob casey made it clear he is no fan of the president's tax reform plan. we caught up with him a short time ago. >> roughly a trillion and and a half dollars taken away from medicare and medicaid. guess why? so they can give a trillion and and a half to the super rich, to the biggest corporations and to anyone else in our society that has great power. >> casey called the gop tax plan

unguided and unfair and said it could possibly raise taxes for the middle class. new drone video captures the cruelty of the widespread wildfires in california. look at this right here. thousands of homes and other buildings in santa rosa gone. the fast-moving flames have killed 21 people. ted greenberg is telling us officials don't believe containment of the fires is anywhere in sight. >> reporter: wildfires continue to rage out of control across california right now. >> unfortunately, today we are expected to go back into red flag warning for northern wind conditions. we are expecting extreme fire behavior and growth of our incidents. >> reporter: it's hard to believe the fires could get much bigger, the situation much worse here. 22 wildfires have left at least 21 dead, more than 150 injured. 3500 structures torched. many of those homes like this

information on where and how to give. here at home we're tracking rain. a live look at temple university in north philly. cooler today with temperatures in the 70s. out at boathouse row. finally starting to feel a little like fall. >> nbc10 chief meteorologist tammie souza is back. 70 degrees today, tammie. it will get even cooler? >> yes, it is. you'll have to drag-out your fall jacket for two days. it's already feeling cooler out there. yesterday you probably couldn't have found room to put another boat on the river. today, fewer people are out rowing. we have clouds out there. a brisk wind. the wind will really pick up the next few days. temperatures are about 10 degrees cooler than they were yesterday. 75 in philadelphia. 73 in vineland. 60 in mount pocono where it was well into the 70s yesterday. this is our realistic sky model.

yes, rain is falling out west and north of the metro area. 61 is where we will go tonight in philadelphia. 62 in dover. 57 in allentown. 61 in atlantic city. vineland bottoms out at about 58 degrees under cloudy skies with periods of rain. showers in burks county. lehigh valley. pennsylvania suburbs. lancaster has showers. a look at the heavier rain moving from holland to the north of bedminster toward delaware. herford. maiden creek, reading, pottstown. you are looking at shower activity. clinton and kingwood, you are looking at more steady rainfall in your area. so you willall of this makes it through philadelphia. this is just the first of several lines. you see more dotty showers back here and all of it associated with this big area of low pressure still to the west over parts of illinois and indiana. it has to make its way past our

area before we warm up for the weekend. it will be a couple days of spotty showers. let's go hour by hour in your neighborhood. winds are out of the east. much cooler along parts of the jersey shore. 69 in atlantic city as we drop through the 5:00 hour. 70s in philadelphia. cloud cover in place. now the model has adjusted to bring heavier rain in the overnight hours. between midnight and 2:00. south jersey towards doylestown and pottstown. it could continue until 4:30 in the morning. dropping into delaware and south jersey. perhaps a half inch for more. thursday, clouds and a few showers, only in the mid to lower 60s. upper 60s on friday. the model has adjusted. scattered showers on friday. generally not wanting to bring them into the area of lehigh valley and burks county.

breaking news. sky force ten live over the scene of a shooting in chester city. one person, we are told, is hurt, but look at all of those evidence morkearkers in the mid of the road. you can see law enforcement there has part of the road blocked off, and they are still on the scene. going through that evidence. investigators tell us the shooter may have used an usei type of -- uzi weapon in all of this. we are working to learn details on this shooting. police have not made any arrests so far. we'll keep you updated on what's going on. a nurse versus a cop and an aggressive arrest. . >> the objection taken against the officer in this video that went viral. plus, the message behind the

it was a sea of pink in northeast philadelphia today. dozens of residents and workers at the nhs allegheny valley school walked to bring awareness to breast cancer. the facility which treats people with intellectual or developmental disabilities raised $1,000 for the cause. in kensington, celebrating the international day of the girl. the philadelphia chapter of the national conference of puerto rican women held this event at john b. sexton middle school. work shops were offered on using

williamstown with more. >> reporter: we know first off that holly glen elementary will be closed for three months to remove the mold, clean, sanitize and replace the school's hvac system. we found contractors busy at the other district schools today where these kids will transition as well as the middle school. williamstown middle school was left out as the board of ed approved relocations last week. today it's where we found the most activity. we watched the contractor unload air scrubbers and dehumidifiers. a concerned mom, michelle terse, she feels better after taking her daughter to the pediatrician tuesday due to cough and headaches. >> if it was or wasn't from mold, that as long as she is not around it, nothing will trigger it.

>> reporter: they sent her home with mold facts. dr. stuart masslin didn't see katie. he says his office has not been inundated with concerned students or staff. >> it's difficult to tell the difference between a mold induced allergy and another kind of allergy i. the monroe township library extended an open movie, lego and reading invite to parents. >> they don't know what to do in this situation. most of our parents have to go to work, or the grandparents are watching them and they want to come here. >> reporter: the kids pretty much laid out what's on their mind. diana says thanks goodness for grand moms like her. >> the problem will be worked on and they'll get it corrected before the school opens. >> reporter: we learned that the district has been working to clean the mold behind these closed doors at holly glen

trump. >> that's an awfully hot coffee pot. should i drop it on donald trump. probably not. but that's all i got till i come up with a solid -- >> eminem's rap called "the storm" accuses the president of racism and hypocrisy. the rap mentioned former nfl player colin kaepernick saying, ball up, a fist. but the rapper and president were once on good terms. back in 2004 mr. trump made a cameo appearance in an eminem concert special. eminem called president trump a winner back then. now, in reply to the rap kaepernick tweeted i appreciate you, eminem. last year kaepernick was the first player to take a knee during the national anthem at an nfl game. the nfl is expected to address the anthem controversy at the owners' meetings next week. roger goodell says the league will review a plan to reveal continued dialogue with players

as well as working with players on key issues. he called on the league to unite and move past the dispute. ten people are facing hazing charges in the death of a louisiana state university student. maxwell gerver died after an alleged night of drinking during a pledge activity at a fraternity last month. the 18-year-old freshman was found lying on a couch. he died at the hospital. also in utah. fired. the police officer caught on camera forcibly handcuffing a nurse in a hospital emergency room lost his job. >> we're done. >> it's not okay. [ screaming ] >> police officials determined that detective jeff payne violated department policy during that arrest. it happened back in july after the nurse refused to withdraw blood from a patient involved in an accident. officials also demoted payne's supervisor. authorities in utah trying to figure out how a 3-year-old boy was left alone in a corn

now to nbc10 responds. a viewer says he rolled into an auto repair shop for minor work. >> he tells us, by the end of the day he had some major problems. so he contacted harry hairston and the nbc10 responds team for some help. >> yes, he did need help. i tell you folks. he thought everything was fine until he hit a serious bump in the road. >> meet james rice.

he loves his 2006 cadillac. and taking care of it is priority. >> i needed two new tires. >> back in june, rice drove to this firestone to get the tires. and an oil change. he says after firestone finished the job, he drove to his grandmother's house. >> when i came out, this tire was completely flat. >> plus, he says, when he looked at the wheel he noticed damage to the car's undercarriage. he says he called firestone right away and got the car back to the shop. >> when they put it on the lift, they must have put it on improperly and pushed the running boards up. >> the shop denied causing the damage so he bought a new wheel and filed a complaint with firestone who promised to respond within five days. rice says, for 22 days he drove his damaged vehicle and no one contacted him despite leaving several messages. so he contacted nbc10 responds.
