radnor board of commissioners faces abuse and other charges. new at 6:00. his colleagues are calling for him to resign. good evening. i am jacqueline london. >> i am jim rosenfield. >> phillip ahr sent and received images of infants and toddlers being abused by adults and did it for years. deanna durante has stayed on the case and is joining us live with the latest developments. deanna. >> reporter: investigators here say those images not only depicted infants and toddlers but also young girls, young boys. they say that they were being abused by men and women and animals. and tonight they have charged the president of the board of commissioners of radnor township with child sex abuse charges as well as child pornography charges. >> it's our first look at phillip ahr since news broke of the search warrant executed at

his home in september. he says nothing as he is escorted by detectives. his hearing lasted minutes before he posted bail. the d.a. says his alleged crime went on for years. >> he admits he knew it was illegal, however, he didn't try to explain why he was doing what he was doing and why he was collecting and disseminating and uploading and downloading these horrendous images. >> reporter: he was reported by yahoo to be trading child pornography. once police identified the i.p. address they moved in seizing his computers. >> i believe the only regret is being caught. >> reporter: the files discovered date back to 2013. >> an xl spreadsheet which contained over 1,000 website addresses of child pornography sites. disturbing. >> reporter: lou clark, a republican, says ahr should resign. police say the images are not only of children being abused and assaulted but abuse by

animals. now, investigators are also saying that ahr continued to hold his position, however, colleague are asking that he does resign that position. we did talk to -- or attempt to talk to his attorney when the pair left court today. his attorney said he hadn't yet looked at the charges against ahr. deanna durante, nbc10 news. we are here today to discuss our vision for america's economic revival, which has already started. it started on november 8th. we want lower taxes, bigger paychecks and more jobs for american truckers and for american workers. >> happening right now, president trump addressing a crowd in middletown where he is working to get people on board with his tax reform plan.

the president is promising to put money back in the pockets of millions of middle class americans. lauren mayk spoke with people who would be impacted by the change. she reports from middletown. >> reporter: president trump supporters here include a woman who says she never voted republican before. >> i like the plan that he had for the country. we have to get our infrastructure built. we have to get a tax plan. >> reporter: ann hoffman has ideas about what she wants that tax plan to be. >> i would like to see any changes to the tax code so we don't have to fill out those long income tax forms and anything that would help middle class, working class people. because we need a break. >> reporter: do you feel like you're going to get one? >> i am hoping so. i mean, we put him in office to do that, so i hope he does it for us. >> reporter: the president's pitch on taxes comes after health care legislation failed. stalled on capitol hill. are you disappointed so far about what hasn't been accomplished? >> he has really been trying

josh shapiro filed a lawsuit fighting the administration's new rules on contraceptive coverage saying they violate federal law requiring insurance companies to cover preventive health care services with no copay. attorneys general in california and washington state have filed similar suits. lester holt will have more on the president's visit to pennsylvania at 6:30 here on nbc10. new at 6:00, a rash of overdoses were reported today in camden county. the police chief says 14 people overdosed on fentanyl in south camden between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. all of the people who overdosed were saved. police believe they have arrested the person supplying the drugs. turning to our weather. overcast skies did not stop people from enjoying this warm october day. video coming to us from olde city where a lot of people were out and about this afternoon. a live look at the center

city skyline. we have seen showers pop up throughout the afternoon. >> nbc10 chief meteorologist tammie souza joins us now. how do things look? the skies behind us look pretty dark. >> they are pretty dark. you are right, jim. carry the umbrella. i know you thought you would need it when you came home this evening. you still might especially if you're in parts of chester county and the upper pennsylvania suburbs, the lehigh valley. for the rest of the area things are pretty quiet. doppler radar sweeping the sky. the heaviest rain is between burks county and chester county. we are going to continue to watch this move toward philadelphia during the next couple of hours. and yes, you will need the umbrella at some point. but there is more to follow after that. take a look. 6:27, we will be seeing the official sunset. looking toward cape may, you see breaks in the cloud cover there. it will all fill back in as showers move through the area. right now, temperatures are still mild. 73 in philadelphia this hour. we should be at 68 degrees this

not compromise the safety of residents. the cuts to the fire department cannot begin until february 1st. >> we have to wait until monday to find out if a judge will dismiss the charges against new jersey senator bob menendez. prosecutors rested their case this afternoon. he is charged with accepting bribes from a florida doctor in exchange for pressuring government officials to help out the doctor's business. before the trial began menendez argued the charges should be dropped. the judge said he would consider the motion after he heard the prosecutor's case. in new jersey the race for the governor's mansion heats up. the lieutenant governor is challenging democrat phil murphy to two more debates. one more debate is scheduled before the november 7th election. we now know county and state health inspectors have been working with the south jersey school district to address mold concerns since january. that's when the monroe township

school district met with the department of health about air quality concerns at holly glen elementary school. the hospital found mold and the district says it was working on a solution when a complaint was filed last month by an employee. 6,000 students in the district learned monday that schools would close for the entire week. >> there is mold everywhere. everybody has mold. we have to know that. the problem can be corrected. and they're going to work on it and get it correct before the school opens. >> the monroe township public library is offering special events all week to help entertain kids while they are out of school. a pennsylvania lawmaker wants to make october bullying prevention awareness month in the state. representative steven kinsey says the goal is to stand up for victims. mark smith was attacked in germantown over the summer by a group of kids making fun of his disability.

bidding for business. there is a huge push to bring amazon's new north american headquarters to our area. >> the partners in philadelphia business journal take a closer look at what winning the bid would mean for the region. nbc10's steven fisher explains. >> reporter: the positives of amazon, more jobs and an increase in the local economy. but bringing in a second headquarters is no easy task. many wonder if places around the delaware valley can even handle the increase. on paper it's a great opportunity for any area looking to expand, making it a top item on many cities' wish list. >> that would be terrific.

i think it could be overwhelming. with anything, you might sometimes want to be careful what you wish for. >> reporter: natalie is a staff writer at the philadelphia business journal and has been researching the effects of amazon's presence. >> right off 95. offer the turnpike. >> reporter: more jobs and a financial boost are positives. she has discovered some concerns that need to be looked at closely. >> some of the costs are housing. in seattle and in silicon valley housing is so unaffordable because you have all these tech companies with a lot of workers who make a lot of money and it's displaced people who just can't afford a nice, normal home. >> reporter: and the stress that 50,000 new workers could put on the city's transit system. >> there are pressures that will be put on a transportation system. we have a great transportation mass transit system in the philadelphia region. it's already at capacity. >> reporter: while amazon is scheduled to create more jobs, high-paying jobs, the expansion of a second headquarters could mean the end for low-paying

soda tax. today, a repeal of the tax passed its final hurdle in cook county, illinois. officials say they decided to kick the tax following public outcry from shoppers and business owners. it was in effect for less than one year. the group philadelphiaens for a fair future which supports the tax told nbc10 here in philadelphia the tax has made a positive difference for thousands of difference and families across the city. it supports critically important programs that provide high-quality pre-k programs for an additional 2,000 young children. opponents of the tax call it discriminatory and under performing. girls will now be able to join the boy scouts. the boy scouts of america made the historic decision today. older girls will be able to join older boys in the same group. younger kids will be separated by gender. tonight we talked to the head of the boy scouts' chester county council. he said he looks forward to integrating girls into his programs and it is a big win, he

is rain on the way. and your sunset, doubt if you'll see much. that's at 6:27. all the gray sky will preclude a pretty sunset for us. chilly air on the way. frontal boundary. 82 in roanoke. 70s in d.c. 50s and 60s behind it. rapid city back up to 74 degrees. out west they can't get rid of the warm air and the dry wind, and they continue to see the giant wildfires flaming and continuing on. it's 68 right now in allentown. 73 in wilmington. 72 in vineland. 69 in trenton, 70 in wildwood and 70 in dover. very middle. should be around 68 this time of year. we are above that. looking at some of the rain making its way into the area. out here towards the upper pennsylvania suburbs is where we actually have some steadier showers. earlier reading and allentown had the showers.

now east pikeland, pottstown and west chester. the showers will make their way into the metro area. behind that, more lines of showers. we won't be out of the shower activity until perhaps friday morning. because the area that we're watching is still well to the west of us. you can see that this has to clear out and that's going to take a day or so before we can actually get rid of the showers and get the sunshine back in here for your weekend. cooler air is behind that front. the next two days, plan on the 60s and then back to the 70s and 80s for the weekend. east winds keeping it cooler along the jersey shore. heavier rain is forecast through the overnight hours through philadelphia and the lower pennsylvania suburbs. scattered showers tomorrow morning. only into the mid 60s tomorrow. grab the jacket. you'll probably need to carry the umbrella. friday, into the mid and upper 60s. scattered showers possible,

it's been on the decline with the closing of the refineries and there's no jobs in the community. if there's no jobs, there's no education, there's no food on the table. what's important is the children. steve sweeney... he fought for 'em. this is where he's from. steve sweeney's been here since the beginning. steve spearheaded the whole project and really brought it to fruition. it would've never been done without steve. it was a pride in building this port and then knowing that we're coming back.
