other kids. officials are giving him until tomorrow to resign. good morning. i'm erin coal nlemacoleman. they say if he does not resign they will strip him of his title. pam, bring us up to speed. >> reporter: as you said, the board has actually given him one day to step down. i spoke with one of the commissioners on the board late this evening. commissioner richard booker tells me to the best of his knowledge phillip r. has yet to do so. last night the board announced the deadline for him to resign after they announced the charges are charged with distributing hundreds of pornographic images of infants, toddlers and

children. they were found on computers at his home. he told investigators he knew it was illegal. i have been try to go get in touch with elain schafer. a school bus crash in delaware. we are told the children are from new castle and the injuries are minor. 600 philadelphia stuntdents

don't have school today after mold was found. crews are back there this morning working to remove the mold. the district is blaming the heating and air-conditioning system. a spokesman said he didn't know how the mold was first diskored. >> we took immediate action. within an hour or so we had folks here starting to look at the issue. they hope to give an update on the issue within an hour. all schools in monroe township district are closed this week after mold was detected. a york county woman and her family who have been held for the past five years by the taliban have been freed. they were captured by militants in 2012 during a backpacking

trip. they had three children while in captivity. the state department released a statement saying the family is safe and secure and thanked the government in pakistan for helping free them. anch a violent night in chester. the two men were shot and killed. you can see that white tent there. that's where officials were gathering evidence. investigators tell us there is a possibility this all started with a gunfight between the men. another shooting in chester happened. police say someone possibly ampl armed with a sub machine gun, you can see a number of evidence markers there. the shooter fired at least 40 bullets. one person hit in the leg and the gunman remains on the loose. rescued a fellow firefighter after a roof collapse sent him

through a burning home. the firefighter will be okay. the house was being renovated. the cause is under investigation. it will continue to get worse before it gets better. they are talking about the deadly wild fires. the fires could gain momentum. firefighters say at least 23 people have died and hundreds are reported missing. some are getting a closer look at the devastation. nbc 10 news was there when some returned home to find everything they owned gone. about 20,000 people are now under those orders. and take a look at this of a man escaping the wild fires by driving through the flames.

walls of flames on either side of the road there. he posted this video on facebook saying his family made it out safely but his home is probably destr destroyed. evacuating may have saved the lives of a couple from montgomery could bety. the husband and wife talked about the moment they knew it was time to get out. >> i started seeing ash falling from the sky. at that point you know it's too close. whether someone tells you it's safe or not it doesn't make any sense. >> the couple was in so noma ona business trip. they didn't even have a chance to get personal belongings. they did manage to get to san francisco and catch a flight back home. our coverage continues online. go to the nbc 10 app to find out what you can do for wild fire

about steady rain. with moisture coming in off the ocean we continue to have the threat into friday afternoon. a couple of days ago it was in the 80s. it is 57 in potstown and 60 in philadelphia barely getting to 60 in the lehigh valley. repeat tomorrow and we'll see the warming over the weekend. that's coming up.

recent days. some places not even 60. newark 59. middletown is barely 60. farther to the south the winds coming in off of that 70 degree ocean. it is not in the 50s but barely in the 60s. long neck at 65 degrees. temperatures are going up because of all of the clouds in the east wind. not a lot on radar. not expecting anything heavy and nothing significant moving in from the west, so we are dealing with that easterly flow. the other thing that easterly flow is doing is causing some problems at high tide this afternoon. coastal flood advisory, the high tides between 1:30 and 2:30. as you go up into the river, the delaware river we are talking

about during the afternoon rush. we'll have to see if there are any roads that are flooded during that period of time. again, just the clouds, a few sprinkles around. tomorrow maybe a little more than springkles. periods of light rain. it will be another cool day with temperatures barely into the 60s. there we are with some more showers. that extends into saturday even though the wind is going to start coming out of the south and will warm up it still may have a few showers around at least some parts of the area. on sunday as long as we dry out we are going to be seeing temperatures in the 80s. in the meantime that northeast wind, the east wind keeping thins cool. so for tomorrow look at this, chestnut hill only 63. reading 64. it really is not warming up much.

some periods of light rain especially in new jersey and delaware during the day tomorrow. for the eagles game tonight it's kind of warm for football but there may be some showers in the area around charlotte north carolina. a town gets ready to show off something new for visitors. and making strides against breast cancer, how you can get involved in the fight against the deadly disease and what one recently diagnosed woman wants you to know.

diagnosed in march is joined by the american cancer society. thanks for being here. >> thank you. >> all right. let's start with you. you're 44 years old, no family history. >> nope. >> to say you were shocked is and under statement. >> a complete under statement, yeah. i went to -- my obgyn exam. they found a lump and said it was probably a cyst. i was not worried at all. sent me for testing and it came back that it was in fact cancer. yeah. to say it was a shock would be the under statement of the century. i couldn't believe it. i'm 44 other wiwise healthy. i don't know anybody in my family that has had cancer or breast cancer or didn't know

anyone who had cancer. >> how are you doing now and what do you want other women to know about breast cancer? >> i am doing well. i'm finishing up chemo in a couple of weeks. i want women to get checked. really, there are so many women i have met in their 40s who have breast cancer. i don't think women are aware it is not just a 50, 60 something disease. i personally know over ten women under the age of 45, three of whom i grew up with that were diagnosed in the few months after i was diagnosed. so get checked. >> talk about what it is doing for people like caroline. >> we have seen a 30% decline in breast cancer death rates. we still see it as the second leading cause but ultimately it funds research as well as provides free services for

top stories this morning. the president of board of commissioners has until tomorrow to resign. that is in response to child porn charges. investigators say he sent and downloaded hundreds of pictures showing toddlers and even babies. pamela osborne will have a live report in just minutes. a spokesman says they hope to ve a decision in the next hour or so about when john b. kelly elementary will reopen. it was closed after mold was found. crews were working to remove that mold. officials say the california wild fires would descend on the area at least 23 people have been killed and hundreds are

missing. officials have evacuated whole towns ahead of the fires. taking a live look outside for a check on the weather here. much of the area had to deal with the wet morning commute and there is a big dip in the temperatures compared to the past few days. glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with your most accurate forecast. >> it is going to look like this for the rest of the day and pretty much tomorrow as well. solid overcast. occasionally we get a little sprinkle. this is wilmington. same kind of sky. we have that kind of sky all through the area. that is going to put an end to these way above normal temperatures. it was 79 yesterday and only 65 today if we get there and 68 tomorrow. so now we are talking about below average temperatures. it's not going to last. it's 60 in philadelphia now. only 56 in allentown and 59 in

reading and mount holly. that is quite a change from what we have seen recently. the steadier rain has moved offshore. we are continuing to see the clouds. once in a while some of these sprinkles or drizzle drops pop up. there is that steadier rain moving off long beach island. we go through the afternoon and we find isolated showers around most of the issues later today will be in the coastal flood. minor flooding expected up the delaware river at the times of high tide. there are the temperatures not going any where this afternoon. clouds all over the place. you don't see a lot of rain drops. i don't think it will be range most of the time but there could be sprinkles. a little more rain tomorrow. we'll see how things change over the weekend. developing on the main line there are calls for the board president to step down after

police charged him with child pornography. he had hundreds of images of kids even infants involved in sex acts. we have been following this story all morning long. >> i have been trying to get in touch we lain schafer. she announced this 24 hour deadline calling for phillip r.'s resignation. he is a commissioner on the board and to the best of his knowledge he has not resigned. he was formally charged with several counts of child born ago fi. a search of his computer uncovered a thousand links of pornographic images of children. if he does not resign he will be stripped of his title as president. it was something they would be

looking once that deadline expired. it is one of the things that we are trying to figure out right now. as soon as we hear back from the board president once the phone calls are returned we'll let you know what they are saying. i'm pamela osborne, nbc 10 news. a surgeon overdose sent 14 people to the hospital in four hours yet. last night we spoke to michael corsello who said they overdosed twice yesterday. medics revived at least one person using narcan. he says no one there checked his pockets and he wants everyone to hear his message. >> i have bald spots on my head.

i have scars all over my body because of this drug. i want every kid to understand they could stay away from this i have ruined three families. police made one arrest yesterday and say shortly after that they saw a significant drop off in those overdoses. it has been following the crisis and watch the award winning coverage right now on nbc10.com or on the nbc 10 app. president trump is about to sign an executive order on health care. officials outlined the order this morning. they say the order would ease the way for groups to sponsor coverage that can be marketed across the country. it would also ease restrictions on short term policies that last less than a year. the president says he is taking action himself because congress couldn't repeal and replace obamacare. pennsylvania is suing president donald trump over his

new birth control mandate. josh says the revisions violate federal law and undermine womens health. the president's new rules let more employers opt out of paying for birth control if they site strong religious believes or moral on jubjection. president trump told a crowd of about a thousand people that a proposed cut to business taxes would bring more work for truckers and that typical households would get a $4,000 pay raise. >> we want low taxes, bigger paychecks and more jobs for american truckers and for american workers. >> the president's plan would cut the rate from 25 to 30% and cut the number of income brackets. the plan would also boost the standard deduction. we talked to people in the crowd about the tax plan and the

full day at home with his family. he walked out of the church yesterday. he lived in philadelphia since 1997 and been deported twice shortly after president trump was elected flores move into the church so it wouldn't happen again. they helped him get deferred status. that means he can live and work in the u.s. and continue to apply for visas. he was asked about the experience and a translator relayed his response. >> his answer is that it's very very hard but it's something that he had to do for his children and for his family. >> flores says he is looking forward to playing with his kids. . to explain the response time that wounded 58 people and injured hundreds more. they revised the shooting time line and now we have a dramatic new account of the moments when

the gunman began to fire the weapons he stockpiled in his hotel room. >> call the police. someone fired a gun up here. someone fired a rifle down the hallway. >> six minutes before steven paddock started to fire. security was checking on a fire alorm and found a hotel security guard injured. >> the rounds started coming down the hallway. i could feel them pass my head. i told myself remain calm. if i freak out right now it's only going to get me killed or injured. >> police are looking at when they received word from the hotel and whether the warning could have been relayed faster to s.w.a.t. members. today jason aldean will play

his first public concert since that shooting. they were on stage when the gunman opened fire. he cancelled several shows out of respect for the victims and their families. he will take the stage today in tulsa, oklahoma. now to a county by county look at news making headlines this morning. police and prosecutor's office are offering a reward leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer of a house sitter. she was watching her sister-in-law's house with children inside when she was killed. atlantic city after a judge ruled the state can lay off 15 first responders. the money saving cuts can't be made until february 1st. the job cuts do not have to come through retirement.

the city says the layoffs won't compromise safety. they took over the city's finances last year after the city teetered towards default. also today leaders will cut the ribbon on a newly constructed portion of the board walk. it is phase 2 to extend it. the reconstructed portion extends from madison avenue. part of the revisions involve a rock sea wall and steel bulk head for protection. today a montgomery county walmart is launching the pip service. pick-up service. it allows them to pick up without leaving their cars. this is part of a full remodel of the hat fiedlshatfield store.

>> so it has to be a priority? >> so it's not a choice? >> absolutely. >> talk about how you can defer your student loan. if you're still job hunting you please contact the student loan servicer to make sure you can apply for deferment to put it on hoechltd still want to pay the interest rates but not default on the student loans. you need to communicate with your servicer. >> don't just ignore it. >> are there ways to consolidate? >> there are ways to consolid e consolidate. see if it's a cost benefit to con sal dating. instead of having six student loan payments you'll have one. that's fine. if the math is a negative in a
