will waste an extra hour on the road. road crews are replacing an entire bridge in one weekend. drew smith is live. where the road closure begins. a main area is just cut off now. >> this is a lot of interstate to close. you can see the roadblocks up right now. nobody getting north unless they had pretty far to the east. and then up and around. the only people allowed opt ramp are construction workers. they have to replace a bridge and build it back up again. before the road opens up again on monday morning. >> reporter: 9:00 on the dot. turnpike workers move the barricades into place. we watch the lucky last minute drivers squeeze in right before the deadline. >> you cut it close. >> we are. >> reporter: we found others much more prepared. >> we planned our trip

accordingly. >> reporter: it will last until monday morning at 4. people heading to festivals and other weekend fun. realize it will be quieter this weekend. >> reporter: that's the detour you see on the map. and it will add considerable travel time for people in both directions. >> probably take another way to get home. >> reporter: the detour is an hour extra. >> we'll have to take it rewe warned people to get on the road from the rest stop. they had no idea about the closure. although the sign had been up for weeks. the university tennis team had more discipline during they pit stop. they have a championship tournament to get to. >> everybody is on a time limit, right? >> exactly. >> we're told there are 30,000

cars that pass over the bridge that's being reconstructed this weekend. so you can imagine all of that extra cars on the detour routs. it will be tough even on those roads that are open. if you're coming up here, catch the fall foil and. maybe you want to pick a different weekend for that. >> this closure maybe inconvenient for now. officials say it could have been worse. traditionally it could take up to 18 months to replace bridge. by closing the highway at once crews can get is done in 55 hours. also tonight mad over mold. parents at south jersey are demanding the school superintendent resign. students at monroe township have been out of the class all week because of mold concerns. the district just announced classes will resume tuesday. parents say the issue is far from over. why they want school leaders to face the consequences.

why they covered it up. why wasn't this handled? >> reporter: what did the district know? and when did they know? an online petition is asking the questions. calling for the superintendent and other school leaders to resign. accusing them of a cover up. it has more than 1,700 signatures. she's getting her sons tested. wondering how her healthy 14 year-old son missed 25 days of school last year. >> are you calling for the superintendent to step down? >> absolutely. 100%. >> a lot of questions from parents. we reached out to the superintendent to get his side of the story. he didn't get back to us yet. now to your first alertd weather. a cooler night out there. that didn't stop from diners and shoppers from hitting the sidewalks here tonight. but you might have to dodge a few rain drops for the start of the weekend. let's get an update on the neighborhood forecast.

team. earlier this week, we spoke to the quarterback was kicked off the team for kneeling during the national anthem. the school said he was punished for going against the team decision to kneel during the coin toss. but stand for the anthem. now the team has cut two additional players as we said not for kneeling. but because they stood during the coin toss. the president says the school is looking at new policy that will support all students. >> a group of philadelphia police and officers went to work today armed with hammers and drills. they descended on kensington street on their own time. to rehab nearly a dozen houses there. one resident is getting new floors and electrical work. plus something she hasn't had in decades. a new oven. >> i'm very appreciative. >> you get a chance to see the gratitude. the appreciation. from the community members. and it's priceless. >> the non-profit rebuilding

a long wait at the doctors office led to nasty confrontation. caught on video. look at this. >> that confrontation unfolded in gainesville florida. the woman was complaining about

the long wait time. her daughter was recording the argument. which turned physical as they walked out the door. >> police are investigating. the doctor has also responded calling his behavior unacceptable. but says the video doesn't show the whole story. and claims the woman was being abusive to his staff. a family is just heartbroken and angry tonight. they pet cat is dead. she was put down within hours of being brought to the animal rescue league. today the shelter apologized to the family, and fired the worker who made the decision to euthanize the pet. >> she was our pet. she had a collar. you could tell she was neutered and taken care of. >> the shelter offered the family a new cat. the owners say they aren't ready for that. they told us they're glad the shelter is making changes so this doesn't happen to anyone else. in west philadelphia, night to celebrate the cause of human and civil rights.

the annual naacp awards was hosted by nbc10. tonight community and business leaders were honored for their work fighting social injustice. philadelphia may your helped kick off the gala. >> one man really proved his love for his fiance. he went climbing through piles of garbage to find that. his fiancee threw her engagement ring in the crash on accident. he got on the phone and tracked down the garbage truck in jersey city. the sanitation crew helped him find the ring. strangely enough the fiancee's name happens to be michael diamond. they should invite the sanitation crew to the wedding. >> starting to feel like fall. another warm up is on the way. tammie souza has your neighborhood forecast. >> we'll be in the roller coaster ride for the ten days or so. up down up down. outside right now, we're down. it was cool today.

we have gray skies out there. drizzle. 65. that was all we could muster today. we should be around 68. on today's date. didn't pick up any official rainfall. 30 miles per hour winds. was the highest wind gust out there. we can take a drizzle over night. more importantly woel start to see temperatures roiz. in a cool pattern now. warm air to the west. and chillier air behind that. right now akrsz philadelphia. temperatures range from 63 in philadelphia to 66 vine land. 64 dover. 61 allen town and 65 wild wood. so again it's a very comfortable night out there. radar picking up some light showers. moving in from the south. here's what's going on. we have a system that's just to the south of us. this area of low pressure. pushing some of the shower activity. into our area. we're watching this cold front that's coming out of the upper midwest. behind it is chilly air. you maybe able to make out the snow taking place. just to the north of billings.

we have rain and thunder storms ahead of this front. that's not going reach us until we get into sunday evening. between then, now and then we'll be looking at light showers coming up from the south. continue to get a wind that will come in from the east. and the northeast. keeping us on the chilly side. tomorrow we'll deal with clouds and isolated shower. up to the low 70s. that's as high as we'll get with the cloud cover. look what happens on sunday. the winds turn to the southwest. quite breezy. bringing in a warm air mass. near 80 and here comes that front. starts making its way through the lee high valley. maybe 6:00 in the evening. through philadelphia. it's out of here off the jersey shore by midnight. we clear out monday. north winds coming in. they'll bring us the coolest air of the season. yet. so 62 tonight in philadelphia. tomorrow the clouds will be in place. isolated shower is possible. going to the temple game maybe
