right now on nbc 10 news today help is on the way. members of the philadelphia sheriff's office are on their way to puerto rico for a nearly month long mission to help victims of hurricane maria. and this trip has a personal connection. running for a cure. right now in center city tens of thousands are raising money and aware in the fight against hiv and aids. 80s in october. that's how high temperatures will climb today. a live look down the shore at cape machlt breezy. we'll be tracking the changes in our weather in the first alert neighborhood forecast. good morning. this is nbc 10 news today. it's 10:00 on this sunday. i'm rosemary connors. let's start with that weekend weather. meteorologist krystal klei is watching the gray skies outside.

she promises they will change in the afternoon. when you see this picture it looks unwelcoming, dreary. just in the last handful of hours we've gotten rid of much of the fog and this is more of a bright gray than it was a couple hours ago when it was dark still. the clouds are just starting to thin a little bit. they will continue as we go through the rest of our morning hours and by the afternoon the sun will break through at least in pockets. here is the radar and satellite. a layer of clouds over us. in terms of rain, no issues. there's still some misting in a few spots where fog is more dense. but that should start to weaken, die down as well over the next couple of hours as we start to heat things up. right now temperatures are pretty warm, 6 in northeast tiltil ly philly and millville. pots down 55 degrees.

this is typically the high on an october day. but we're going to pump it up to the upper 70s, even low 80s in spots later on. here is the trend in philadelphia. by 4:00 about 77 degrees and, there it is, that mix of clouds and sun. we'll talk more about your sunday coming up. >> we'll see you shortly. happening now in center city 10,000 are walking and running to raise money and awareness for the fight against a deadly disease. nbc 10's matt delucia is live by the philadelphia museum of art where the 31 isst annual aids walk philly is under way. big strides in the fight against aids since organizers first started this event. >> reporter: that's right, rosemary. they come out here year after year. it is a soggy morning, at least the rain let up. we had a bit of a misbehit behi me. they start this had walk about an hour ago. take a look at video from the start when they were by the art museum making their way down mlk drive and everyone is helping to support the nearly 30,000 people

living with hiv here in the philadelphia region and what the organizers really wanted, the number zero. zero stigma about aids. zero deaths. that is what they're working towards and the money raised stays in this area. >> this is my 30th aids walk. and so i've seen a lot over the years. i'm so excited about the progress we've made but we still have a long ways to go. >> reporter: and first off this morning there was the aids run that was about 7:30 this morning but the aids walk started about an hour ago so these folks are starting to finish up here and you can see the commitment of the people here based on the weather this morning. definitely overcast. perfect conditions for a run or a walk out here and this should wrap up in an hour. you have to keep in mind there were road closures and detours in this area the art museum. live here in center city, matt delucia, nbc 10 news.

>> ten-hut! happening now, four members of the philadelphia sheriff's office are on their way to puerto rico on a mission to help those still suffering from hurricane maria. once they land on the u.s. island today they'll go straight to work with the american red cross to make people get the supplies they desperately need. this is a deployment near and dear to their hearts. all of the officers from philadelphia have family in puerto rico. >> my grandmother was born and raised there and whatever they need from us, we go in with the mind-set knowing our assignments may change. we go in knowing it's not the ideal living conditions but our people need us and we're there to support 100%. >> the officers will be there for just about three weeks. new this morning in philadelphia, a man is after being shot in front of the house in kensington, it happened here on westmoreland street. the gunman shot the man around

11:30 last night. police are still trying to track down the shooter. they tell us he was wearing a gray sweat suit. police are also busy looking for the person who shot a man in west mt. airy. nbc 10 was here where officers found the victim and the gun they believe was used in the shooting. police took the wounded man to the hospital. this morning he's in stable condition. new information about a man found murdered inside of a philadelphia recording studio. police now tell that the victim was shot and that a blood-stained screwdriver was found near his body. police kept the 444 building and parking lot closed off yesterday morning. investigators say the body was discovered in the superior sound studio. the motive for murder is still not. we're told artists like jazzy jeff, mill and joe scott, all natives, have used it during their careers. police have not released the

victim's name or made any arrests yet. later on this morning the trinity presbyterian church will host a discussion to help break stereotypes. the goal is to help members of the lbgtq community and their families. >> we wanted to be a good place for lgbtq people who are searching for some answers to come in and find some of those. >> the lunch time discussion organized by the church's mental health and addiction ministry will begin at 11:30 this morning. today a weekend education conference will wrap up with participants hoping to shine a spotlight on the need for more african-american male teachers. the inaugural national black male educators convening conference happening at the sheridan hotel in center city. only 2% of teachers across the country are black men. the group says they want to revolutionize what education looks like in classrooms so that all students can benefit.

welcome back. we're starting out with that visibility map and this is a good sign if you want to see sunshine because the visibility has been improving over the last couple of hours. what was down to a quarter of a mile is four miles in atlantic city. nine miles in philly. ten is the max the map. that's near perfect. allentown still patchy fog in place. that's going to start to break as well. if you're going outdoors, different events going on, you should be fine. i'll be at the dilworthtown wine fest. going to be very nice conditions out there. these temperatures do come with windier conditions as well but overall should be enjoyable. how about those highs? what a roller coaster. 80 today after 70s yesterday. and then look at this. we dropped to below average by

tomorrow and even more so by tuesday. i want to talk about why this happens coming up in a few manipulate. we'll see you then. thanks, krystal. now to what some are calling an unholy act. somebody swiped a life-sized cutout of pope francis from the catholic church in washington township. the cutout similar to this one was taken thursday night during the bingo fund-raiser. church leaders tell us they just want the person who took the cutout to please return it. looking for work this holiday season. target is holding job fairs at all its stores from 10:00 this morning until 6:00 this evening. the company says looking to hire just about 100,000 seasonal employees nationwide. hollywood takes action against harvey weinstein. how the motion picture academy is punishing the movie mogul.

all right. let's start with a wide view of satellite and radar. clouds in place and the fog is starting to burn off. this is a cold front that's

moving through, some showers and thunderstorms firing up with it. that's moving in our direction. it has quite a bit of ground to cover but it will impact us by tonight and into early tomorrow morning. so let's talk about the conditions that will be changing over the next 48 hours. a big difference between today and tomorrow. so we still have the clouds tomorrow and it's a good blanket of clouds overhead for a gray morning. but as we go into your noon hour here you start to see that there are some breaks of sun light building over the region. those clouds will going to thin up a bit and that will allow for the pockets of blue to start showing through. that continues on into the evening. it will be fairly clear for a period of time. that means the sun can start to warm us up and then, what's that? that's the cold front moving our way and will impact us in the overnight hours. during the daytime ahead of the front winds will be picking up. it pulls in warm air which is going to help those temperatures as well boost up.

gusts 25 to 30 miles per hour. it's not terribly windy but enough to blow things around, tussle the hair. an annoyance as you go through the afternoon hours. starting out this morning the rain is well to our west. we still have some clouds in place. as we go through the afternoon hours the front approaches pennsylvania. this is at 4:00 p.m. and now the clouds are start to go break over us this is a pretty nice afternoon for us but here we go tonight and the showers do start to build over parts of the poconos. from 11:00 at night to about 6:00 a.m. it will be up against the jersey shore and delaware beaches. so as you wake up you may still run into showers particularly along those areas. then this sweeps out. you'll see more and more conditions and that builds in an extended period of sunny, dry

air. let's look at your forecast for the next few days. 80 today. there's the cooldown to 65 monday. look at that. 63 tuesday. a huge difference over the next three days. we're 78 in the suburbs. down to 62 tomorrow in the lehigh valley. for new jersey, 80 today. 73 at the shore and 80 today as well in delaware with a mix of clouds and sun. tomorrow a morning sprinkle and down to those mid-. the lehigh valley where new drone video shows the construction that's creating quite a bit of gridlock the pennsylvania turnpike. crews took apart the old bridge in south white hall township. the new bridge spans are now in place. both directions of the northeast extension are closed until tomorrow morning at 4:00. so what does that mean? delays up to an hour. close to 40 miles of the pennsylvania turnpike is shut down. again, that's in both directions.

a complete list of the ways to get around it right now on the nbc 10 app. starting today older americans can officially make changes to their health benefits as part of the annual medicare open enrollment period. that means between now and december 7th people 65 and older can change coverage to medicare advantage which offers enhanced services like vision, hearing, and dental plans. subscribers can switch to part d prescription drug plans. experts say you should shop around. be sure to consider cost as well as convenience since some programs make it cheaper to get prescription drugs by mail. new coverage would begin on january 1st. president trump is taking steps to dismantle obamacare leaving it to congress to come up with a solution. earlier this morning i talked live with "meet the press" moderator chuck todd about the issue. so where do we go from here and what's the status for republicans? >> well, i think this one is one that in order to keep the health

insurance market from totally collapsing, i think certainly politically there's a bunch of republicans in the house and senate that fear they're going to get blamed for all of the health care problems in 2018 financially. i think there's an incentive by congress to reinstate these subsidies in some form or another. >> health care and foreign policy will both be the top issues on "meet the press" this morning. u.n. ambassador nikki haley and john kasich will be two of chuck todd's guests. you can watch it in a few moments at 10:30 right here on nbc 10. movie mogul harvey weinstein cherishes his oscars. this morning the motion picture academy has booted him as a member. yesterday the academy's board voted to remove weinstein following the allegations of sexual harassment and assault. nearly three dozen women have accused the movie producer of some kind of sexual misconduct. the board says, quote, the era offul ignorance and shameful

complicity and sexually predatory behavior in our industry is over. stein has said there is no excuse for his behavior. happy sunday to you. danny pommells from nbc sports philadelphia here. let's start with the flyers who showed signs of growth on their four game roadie to start the year. they look to prove it to their fans with a strong showing in the home opener against the capitals. let's start about a minute left in the first. scott laughton dips around the goaltender before sending home his first of the year, a shorty, makes it 2-1, flyers after one. then in the second look at these moves by jake vorcek. shakes the defender out of the stick. sets up wayne simmons who obliges with the team-leading fifth of the year. 3-1 orange and black. 5-2 in the third. laughton again bangs home his second of the game, one of three flyers with two goals on the night.

motivational speaker. she's only 7. leah became an inspiration to millions when her football player father, pro football father, showed details of her brave fight online. great story. great to see she's well. let's talk about conditions outside. they look dreary out there now. this is the view from cape may along the beach. a very gray sky overhead. here's the, it is looking much better than a fewer hours ago and that trend will continue. more of a mix of clouds and sun. get us up to 80 degrees in philly. breezy to windy conditions overnight into monday early morning some spot showers. a big cooldown. 65 monday. 63 tuesday and then look at that stretch of sunshine. all the way to saturday we're looking sunny and we warm up back to 80s again by next week. >> hey, the weather today, all things considered, really going to cooperate for your event. >> i'm looking forward to that. the wine fest, something we like to help out with each year. get out there if you can.
