they took prince into custody last night. and tonight we're learning exactly how they made that capture. tim furlong is joining us live from newark. >> it took someone's eye to help police get there. >> e we always hear in every case like this, we need a it tip from the public to get us in the right direction. that tip from the mother of a cop. let alone doing pretty well. after he shot and killed some of his coworkers in maryland wednesday, his next stop was his used car. >> i don't understand all the felonies. >> with a criminal history, they want to know why he was allowed to walk the streets including this one in newark. he was seen before his arrest.

neighbors can't believe he was right outside their door. >> not good. it's a scary situation. >> the mother of a rookie cop heard the description when she saw him ditch the s is uv. agents got him in cuffs. a big relief for his friends and family.(o% >> they prayed. he was very familiar with the justice system. we did some digging. e he had 62 felony arrests. 135 misdemeanor arrests. 18 convictions. still with all of that, he was allowed back on the street. now three people are dead and are injured. nbc 10 has obtained a court document details one of prince's arrests. this one in march of 2015. police say they found a gun in

know when news breaks, you can sign upç to get nbc 10 alerts sent straight to your phone. new at 6:00, the pennsylvania supreme court is making sure seth williams never practices law in the state again. the former philadelphia district attorney was officially disbarred today. in june williams resigned as district attorney after he pleaded guilty to a corruption charge. he faces up to five years in prison at his sentencing next week. now to a developing story. a powerful defense of the president from his chief of staff. after claims president trump was insensitive to the family of a fallen soldier. general kelly choked back tears as he defended the president's words. >> lauren mayk is live in our breaking news center with why this was so personal for general kelly. >> his son was killed while serving in afghanistan. it's not something he usually

talks about publicly, but today he did defending the president and revealing what led up to a call of condolences from the commander-in-chief. at the podium next to an american flag, general john kelly speaking as chief of staff and a gold star father. >> he said to me, what do i say? i said there's nothing you can do to lighten the burden on these families. >> general kelly in an emotional appearance revealing his conversation with the president before he called the families of fallen soldiers. e he says he told the president a story about what someone said to him after his own son was killedç in afghanistan. >> he said, he was doing exactly what he wanted to do when he was killed. by joining that 1%. >> that sentiment is what president trump was trying to convey to the widow of a soldier

killed. in a conversation criticized by a florida congresswoman who heard it. general kelly called the behavior selfish. to collect his thoughts, the general told reporters he went to arlington national cemetery. >> went over there for an hour and a half. walked among the stones. some of whom i put there because they were doing what i told them to do when they were killed. >> he's stunned at the loss of something sacred. >> i just thought the devotion that brings a man or woman to die, i just thought that might be sacred. >>. >> president obama did not call him after the death of his son, but that was not a criticism. president trump bravely made these calls, but that he first advised the president not to make them at all. >> conch of this story continues on "nbc nightly news" at 6:30.

speaking of president obama, he's back on the campaign trail again. the former president returned to familiar stumping grounds in new jersey for phil murphy. he's running againstç kim to b the garten state's next governor. murphy is leading in the polls. >> last call for anyone who wants to join the bid. ing war to win the second headquarters. the mayor today thanked the people who pushed for the city of brotherly love to land the headquarters. why the city should win out over the others. he head lined the event. three sites in wilmington. from allentown to atlantic city and everywhere in between, cities, communities and counties in our area are among those

that's because we have a weak front passing the area to the north of us. it's not going to do much more than knock theç temperatures dn tomorrow evening. saturday we wake up in the 40s. 76 in philadelphia on saturday. and even warmer by the time we get e into sunday. nothing showing up on the radar. we have high pressure that's pulling in warm air. all across the midwest and spilling it into our area. we're looking at 54 in philadelphia. 46 for all of you in the lehigh valley. 53 at the jersey shore. 51 in delaware. under clears with light winds out of the west. tomorrow again sunny skies. our forecast model shows that to you. 73 in philadelphia. we're looking at 73 in the suburbs. 72 in the lehigh valley. jersey shore at 72 degrees.
