presidents put their differences in the past to help out millions in our country. >> announcer: nbc 10 news starts now. right now a 3-year-old boy shot in the head and police say his 6-year-old brother did it. i'm denise nakano and right now the 3-year-old victim is in critical condition. it happened just after 3:30 this afternoon in philadelphia's tioga section. nbc's drew smith is outside crozer-chester where the little boy is right now. drew. >> reporter: neighbors are hoping a doctor inside this hospital can save the toddler. people got emotional at the corner of 18th street and eerie avenue hugging each other not knowing what would happen as police rushed a 3-year-old boy to had hospital with a gunshot wound to the forehead.

>> i grabbed my kids ask all i could do was hug my kids. >> reporter: police stood guard at the home as they waited for a search warrant. it was up stairs in a bedroom where a 6-year-old somehow got his hands on a gun and shot his brother. another 12-year-old sibling was also home. char lean says there had never been a problem with the kids at home. >> to come home and hear about this was very disturbing. i hope and pray he's going to be all right. >> reporter: investigators say there were no parents home when the gun went off. >> they just needed to put the gun away. >> reporter: it pewers a neighbor alerted the family to what happened. there are still key questions police need to answer in this case. and they're working on that. who's gun was it, where was it stor stored and how did young children get their hands on it? we've been checking with police

on the latest updates on that toddler's condition. they're still saying he's critical tonight. at least two police or people are accused of assaulting police officers after protests got out of control in center city. it happened outside a major law enforcement conference in town this weekend. >> if we don't get it. >> shut it down. >> dozens of people today at arch and 12th streets yelling. officers are here to learn new ways to fight crime. one group of protesters suggested abolishing police. meanwhile some onlookers in the crowd were angry and confused. >> minority groups don't get their due respect, and there's no one held accountable. >> they need to have dialogue and relationship.

>> the officers that were injured were treated and released at the hospital. he promised to work with police departments and help reduce crime during what he calls a tumultuous time for law enforcement. tomorrow officers will be hearing from the new director of the fbi. check out the crowd in chestnut hill today. german town avenue was transformed into hogs meat for the annual harry potter festival. brooms, wands and wizards stretched for 12 blocks. there were live performances and costume contests. and just about everyone was talking about was how beautiful it was today. >> beautiful out. it's so nice out. i think this is probably the best weather we've had in two

noontime, and we're well into the 70s in the afternoon. sunshine again, maybe some high clouds but that's about it. zero chance of rain. that's pretty amazing. of course, things are going to change. we're going to get some much needed rain and then some much colder weather. i'll tell you when that all happens coming up. tonight four people are in the hospital after a gunman opened fire on a basketball court in delaware county. police tell us this happened just after 6:00 in carla's lane in chester. two men and two women were struck. there were about 0 people on the court at the time. investigators tell us the shooter was on the street above the court and fired down on the victims. they're still not sure if the victims were targeted or whether this was a random shooting. army sergeant la david johnson was laid to rest this morning near his home enflorida. he was killed alongside three of his comresidence during an ambush in africa. his death sparked an ongoing

feud between president trump and congresswomen fredrika wilson. there was no mention of the political headlines generated in the aftermath of his death, just remembrances of a young soldier, husband and father gone too soon. well, tonight there are new questions about the final hours of those four soldiers. the pentagon said the soldiers were ambushed in niger after a planned visit to village elders. a report from the "the new york times" says that might not be the whole story. "the times" cites military sources that were seen chasing insurgents before they died. congress is demanding more information on counter terrorism in africa. and next an appeal to the nation. the stars come out for one night to help our former leaders help

more than four weeks after hurricane maria hit puerto rico most people are still without power. but there are signs of progress. water has been restored to almost three quarters of the island, and some schools will reopen next week. in the meantime hundreds of children have moved to florida and rolling in and putting new pressure on schools there. since the hurricane more than 1,000 new students have enrolled in orlando area schools which have also hired more than 20 teachers from puerto rico. and several performers took the stage in a benefit concert to raise money for hurricane victims of texas, florida,

in bucks county there was something for everyone at this year's annual historic bristol day. and a sea of pink on the streets of langhorn this morning as more than 200 motorcycles took part in the wide. the event benefits the hospitals breast are center and breast health initiative program that provides free mammogram screenings for women who do not have medical insurance. well, it is the harsh reality for the youngest victims of war, these swedish refugees. a swedish photographer documented the children as they slept on the streets and floors.

across the area. and there's quite a contrast in parts of burkes, lee high, too. we have 49 decrease in blanden but it's 60 in fleetwood. makes a big difference. ridges, valleys, that kind of thing. white hall 49, walla port, 48. but nazrath, 56. everybody was on the warm side today. 79 degrees. the average high this time of year, 65. still in the 70s, well up in the 70s tomorrow and still in the 70s for monday and maybe into tuesday, too. that depends on the rain. but definitely colder on wednesday and thursday. and then we start warming up again. we have clear skies right now, few high clouds in ohio. that is a pretty strong front,

even some tornados down in oklahoma. that is what is going to put an end to those 70s. but you see how far away it is. it's going to take a while. as we look at the latest future cast, night and quiet tomorrow, lot of sunshine late today to tomorrow. and then tomorrow night and into monday things start to change. first of all, the wind starts coming in off the ocean. we get low clouds, a little fog, maybe we get some drizzle for first thing monday. and then a few showers start popping up from time to time. that's not just the front itself. that's just some atlantic moisture coming in. and same story for later monday evening. we're still waiting for am the main area of rain. the area, that's tuesday. 6:00 a.m., there we go, 10:00 a.m. and some pretty strong thunderstorms and periods of heavy rain coming through the

area right there in the afternoon hours and even into the afternoon rush. so could get pretty wild on tuesday. but not tomorrow. 77 in fairmount, tacony, 76 in -- not quite getting the 70 because of that wind starting to come in off of the ocean. for the eagles, well, we've got some pretty good weather. warm for this time of year. and just a chance of a couple of showers. and that would be probably toward the end of the game. and as we get through the next several days, tuesday is the rain day, wednesday is the colder day, thursday is going to be the coldest and then we start warming up again as we head towards next week. >> but all in all some pretty good timing. >> yeah, we've had several days like this in a row.
