earlier we had some sunshine out there. but you notice the line of showers and gusty storming its way on shore. it may even move inland into parts of south jersey because it's sort of slanting and headed more northward. so just be prepared the closer you are to the shoreline, the better chance of seeing more rain. we also have more off to the west of us. a lot of these showers and thunderstorms are dying out. some could make it into this soupy atmosphere that we have out there. we have the sunshine back and warmed up nicely. i think that would be fine with people with a good drenching today. 72 in philadelphia. look at the beautiful set. 10 mill miles of visibility. southwest winds took us about 10 degrees above average today. 71 in wilmington. we're looking at southwest winds at 6 miles per hour. even a in allentown, 2 this hour

storm. former philadelphia district attorney seth williams was sentenced to five years in federal prison today. the judge said there weren't enough words in the lish language to explain the audacity of one thing williams asked for. let's bring in investigative reporter mitch blacher, who was one of the first to question williams' conduct. what was that request that got such a strong reaction from the judge? >> seth williams' lawyer ask that his client be released until he has to be reporting to prison. also that he could visit his ailing and ageing mother. the judge treated that request as simply ridiculous saying, first he stole tr his mother and now he wants to visit her. it was then the judge sentenced seth williams to begin his sentence immediately. seth williams enters a federal courtroom wearing a prison olive shirt. it's the first time we have seen

him since his conviction. >> he's under a lot of strain. it's putting a lot of strain on his family. >> he's seen his daughters four times. he said from the time you took office, you sold yourself to the parasitehouse surrounded yourself with. >> these were very serious crimes. they fully warranted the maximum sentence. >> reporter: williams' downfall began with the bribes he took. a trip, sofa and cob investigator. now it seems only in exchange for five in federal prison. williams apologized to his family. those working in the district attorney's office and philadelphia citizens, but he did not say the words. having his lawyer read a prepared statement that said in part, these are my mistakes and my mistakes alone. i'll spend the rest of my life fixing all i have broken. >> he may not be able to make it through it. we didn't want to make it a spectacle. >> it's not something played well. the judge said he didn't believe

williams calling his statement a campaign speech. williams is disbarred and lost his pension and never be able to practice law again. >> the message is unmistakable. law enforcement agents take this very seriously. we will always be here. >> when seth williams e gets out of prison in five years, he will have to pay $58,000 in restitution and also when he gets out, he will face three years of supervised released. mitch blacher, nbc 10 news. new at 6:00, a top aid to bob brady is now facing charges. it's part of a federal investigation into whether brady paid a cam rival $90,000 to drop out of a 2012 race. the political strategist was indicted by a grand jury. least accused of funneling the money to brady's challenger. his lawyer said he hopes he will be exonerated and brady maint n

maintains he himself has done nothing wrong. one of the most openly critical voices against president trump delivered a speech this afternoon in congress blasting the administration and the entire gop. jeff flake of arizona gave that e emotional speech on the senate floor today after announcing he won't run for reelection. flake has been critical of the entire republican party and the direction it's taken after president trump took office. today he warned republicans about a grim future for the party. >> we were not made great as a country indulging in or our impulses turning against ourselves. glorifying in the things that divide us and calling fake things true and true things fake. >> the white house responded to flake call criticism petty and his retirement is probably a good move. and tonight a screaming protester was arrested after he threw several russian flags at president trump. it happened as the president was walking into lunch with senate

republicans inside the capital. the president didn't flinch as the flags were thrown his way. the man will be charged with unlawful conduct. stay tuned for "nbc nightly news" with lester holt right after this broadcast. tracking the drama developing on capitol hill. that's coming up at 6:30. this just in. police say they have arrested one suspect in connection with a robbery in montgomery county. sky force 10 was over the scene earlier this morning. two suspects are still on the run. police tell us they hit a home in upper dublin and not believed to be armed. in philadelphia tonight a gruesome discovery of a woman's body found beaten so badly police could not identify her. police found the victim in a trash bag on westmoreland street in north philadelphia. police are not sure if she was killed there or dumped on the sidewalk. s say it's not a very well-lit area and it has become a dumping ground over the years. >> it's scary. don't nobody know who she.

anybody could be the next victim. >> they are waiting for the mexico's report to find out more about that victim. burglarized and ransacked nearly 100 units at sentinel storage were broken into. units were found wide open, cars were broken into and belongings left scattered across the lot. police tell nbc 10 they are still contacting victims. a south jersey father and son are very lucky to be alive after their home in pleasantville within the up in flames this morning. officials say family was sleeping when the father was wakened by that fire. both got up on the roof where they were rescued. they were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, but are expected to be okay. the home is a total loss. no word on what touched off that blaze. up next, ribbons appearing on police cars in south jersey. the cheerleader and fighter inspiring the movement, new at 6:00. and i'm tracking more storms later this week.

awareness, we're blessed. >> cydney long, nbc 10 news. she's been fighting this disease since she was born. >> e she wasn't diagnosed by doctors until the day before her fifth birthday. a local jewish cemetery is whole again. pieced back together with the help of volunteers. today the jewish federation selled the restoration. this is what the cemetery in the section of philadelphia looked like back in february. nearly 500 headstones knocked over and broken leaving many people devastated. but now the grave sites are fully restored thanks to an outpouring of support from the community. >> it's frustrating and disturgeing at times. when you stand back and look down these rows and they are standing up there so appropriately and respectfully, it's incredible. >> philadelphia mayor jim kenny toured mount caramel and took part in a ceremony placing stones on the headstones to

jersey shore and some of you out there could get a pretty good downpour. we're also watching this big area of low pressure. it's dig iging into the valley d pulling cold air down. and out ahead of it we're seeing some of these showers and storms. there's instability as they wrap around this. we could see a few of those popping up through the evening hours. for the most part, we're watching the cold air. look at the snow in the u.p. of michigan. you can see all the way down near is where the cold air is being drug down to. so let's watch where we go. this is our weather pattern. blue is cold. and this lovely orange and yellow shade is the warm air that we have been enjoying today. let's. skip ahead and go to thursday. lots of blue. and into a green shade. winds are coming in generally out of the north. and then turning back. a little bit to the south and the east by the time we get into

saturday. that nice southerly flow. lots of shades of orange. a big warm-up on saturday. then here it comes. monday, monday night and into tuesday. very chilly to cold air comes spilling in just in time for halloween. that going to be moving across the philadelphia area. so you may need that big jacket with the kids costumes. here's what's going on now. the cold front will press eastward clearing the skies out. we'll see some clouds out. an isolated shower and patchy fog. winds turn to the north. that's going to be a cooler air mass that makes its way in here for tomorrow and thursday and trid. after that, we get a nice warm-up. it's only a one-day warm-up, because we'll rerack and here comes the next storm system that will be for saturday night and into sunday. and sunday, that's the big eagles game. look at this. we're going to be in the 60s and need to have that rain slicker

i'm john clark from nbc sorts philadelphia. the eagles are the best team in the nfl. they would be their fifth straight game last night. carson wentz leads the nfl with 17 touchdowns. all is good. not so much. they lose two veteran leaders for the season. jason peters, the 35-year-old left tackle, a hall of famer tore his acl and mcl. he's out for the season. so is jordan hix. he ruptured his achilles. the birds lose two of their best players. >> it's definitely the next man up. and they rally around the guys that are hurt, number one. support them, but at the same time, the bigger picture is we still have a lot of football

left and a game this sunday. and the season is not over. >> so tough for jason peters. carson wentz threw 4 touchdowns so he's thrown 11. only one other quarterback has ever done that. that was in the 1950s. carson is arguably the mvp right now. he's impressing his veteran teammates. >> it's fun to watch him. every time he scrambles, i'm like here go the big plays. >> i feel confident. let them make plays and we're picking up big chunks down the field. guys are winning and i'm just putting it there. >> so modest. after the win leaving the field, he hugged a family of the young boy who died of cancer. carson wears his wristband in
