because just the weather alone or the starving. >> reporter: michael faced his emotions head on. in a moment of fight or flight, he was ready to run. >> he was gone. what he was doing was wrong. >> reporter: he left treatment with an anonymous ride he wound up on the streets and robbed of his blonings but knew he could get money and get high. >> ended up going to a meeting down there and walked into the meeting. somebody had seen him on the news. and said what are you doing here? what are you doing here? you're supposed to be in treatment. >> he didn't use. >> his jaw dropped and at that moment, he started being flooded with emotions. >> reporter: liberation way considers it community intervention and proof that it's a process and people care. >> the lady that scooped him up and as he stated his guardian angel made sure that he wasn't

going to leave her grips until he ended up back where he is right now. >> reporter: the troomt center staff got him back to rehab by midnight. >> success is he decided to come back. he's talking about it. >> i was able to speak with him and let him know this is where you're supposed to be. obviously, because he tried lee leaving and couldn't even do that. >> reporter: now he also told me yesterday that his biological father does plan to visit him at the treatment center this weekend, but he also said that his family is a little reluctant to become too invested until he's further along in this journey. >> you have talked to michael, become invested in him as well as the people trying to help him out since day one of rehab. what was your thought when you heard the phone ring and you hear the story? >> reporter: i had to tell you, my heart sank for him. all of us are pulling for him in this fight really to get clean. he was so positive. he was even pushing the nurses away. he didn't want to have another

dose of methadone because he's weaning off and coming off of these medical treatments to get him clean. but this is a message that it doesn't happen overnight. i'm cydney long, nbc 10 news. >> a journey shore couple says much more needs to be done to slow the opioid epidemic. they run stevens place, a sober living home in atlantic county. it's named after their son who died after a heroin dose last year at the age of 26. the cup founded a nonprofit called stop the heroin. >> still seeing people fighting to get into treatment. people with no insurance getting short stays. >> in my heart and mind, my son dies every day. i don't know if i'm ever going to be able to fully heal. from losing him because of it's every day and they are tieg every day. >> governor christie would head

one of the dogs was flown to philly from puerto rico following hurricane maria. the other was rescued from a boarding situation in kentucky. to northeast philadelphia where a fire broke out this morning. a two-story home caught fire on maine rid yan street. a woman inside was rush ed to te hospital. her condition is unknown tonight. the cause of the fire is under investigation. in mercer county, a a fire aled to first responders to an unexpected find in an apartment. they smelled a strong odor of marijuana and found $900,000 worth of drugs and $2,000 in cash. the owner and operator of the company is facing multiple charges in connection with this case. he's a supplier of high grade marijuana products. to breaking news right now, a school bus accident in camden. george spencer is live overhead

today the white house is racing to release thousands of documents about the assassination of president kennedy. the documents were legally supposed to be leased today, but the cia wants partins of those documents redacted. it's been 50 years since he was killed sparking conspiracy theories. what questions will the documents answer, if any? >> investigators say oswald was the lone gunman, but not everyone is convinced. >> the images are indelible. a moment in dallas that changed a nation and fuelled conspiracy theories for half a sencentury. now federal law is forcing the release of thousands of government documents about the assassination. among the key questions for historians, did lee harvey oswald act alone? did the government know more about the assassination's movements and motivation than previously revealed?

screen employees. >> let's get to nbc bp=yk clark with the latest. >> in the last 30 minutes, we have learned that omar harrison was suspended and then fired from his position as dean from mastery charter middle school. after the victim's mother c confronted him at the school on friday. school officials call police the k to ensure stu safety. the eighth grade student told police harrison drove her to a hotel at the end of school last year and sexually assaulted her inside of a run. harrison was arrested yesterday and charged with statutory rape. safety and staff screening and training processes to ensure we take all necessary precautions to protect our students' safety and well-being.
