>> this was the actions of a depraved coward. >> good evening, i am jim rosenfield. >> i am jacqueline london. first up at 6:00. law enforcement officials are trying to question the suspect sayfullo saipov tonight but he is not answering questions and is unapologetic for the attack. 32-year-old darren drake, a rutgers student from new milford was riding his bike when the truck plowed into him. his father is so distraught he could barely finish his thoughts. >> he's -- he -- he -- >> his father did tell us drake was a perfect son. this is the truck that mowed down drake and several others on the bike path before crashing into a school bus.

late this afternoon that truck was removed from the accident scene. it's under the blue tarp. the suspect was shot by police when he jumped out of the truck. >> a note found inside the truck included a handwritten message saying "isis lives forever." investigators tell nbc news he was consuming isis propaganda and officials believe he was not part of a larger plot. >> nbc10's rosemary connors is live in manhattan tonight. rosemary, we heard the mayor of new york say this was going to be the case. there is extra security all over that city. >> reporter: absolutely, jacqueline and jim. you can get a sense of it from the congested traffic behind me in the middle of the intersection, a few blocks away from the scene of the attack. we are also a few blocks away from the world trade center. even up there, police have flooded the streets, making sure they are safe and secure. in the meantime, eyewitnesses tell me they are coming to grips with what they heard and saw yesterday. >> i hear something coming.

and i see a white truck. >> it was those moments that eyewitnesses have burned into their brains. the moments that changed the lives of 19 people, eight killed and 11 injured. >> i hear boom, boom, boom. and i look up and i see bike pieces and body parts in the air. >> first, the terror. now the aftermath as students and residents of tribeca try to remain calm in the wake of the chaos. today many are reflecting on how close they could have come to the terror that killed the innocent people on a nearby bike path. >> i felt lucky. it's about an hour before i was on the path as well. >> people were calling asking me if i am okay. >> you can go to london, other cities in the uk, manchester and that, still you still have to have your wits about you and be vigilant and take care. >> reporter: tourists who abroad who know the pain of the process all too well were undeterred today, sharing the same sentiment as new yorkers. >> we stand together and keep on

thinking movements, his action in this case, his heroism. the eyewitness we spoke to today told me the police who immediately responded -- she didn't name officer nash but talked about the officers who generally responded to the scene, she says they treated the victims with dignity and respect and she too is grateful for their service. >> behind you, rosemary, it very much looks like a normal day in lower manhattan despite what just happened yesterday. we appreciate your report. speaking of the hero officer, a short time ago we heard from him for the first time since the attack. >> although i feel we were just doing our job like thousands of officers do every day, i understand the importance of yesterday's events and the role we played and i am grateful for the recognition we have received. >> nash spoke for less than a minute. he said he couldn't say more due to the pending criminal case. president trump says he will consider sending the manhattan

terror suspect to the u.s. prison at guantanamo bay, cuba. >> my administration is coordinating closely between federal and local officials to investigate the attack and to further investigate this animal who did the attacking. >> president says the suspect came into the u.s. through the diversity visa lottery program. that program allows about 50,000 people a year into the u.s. from countries with smaller numbers of immigrants. now the president wants congress to get rid of that program. mr. trump tweeted this morning saying, the terrorist came into our country through what is called the diversity visa lottery program, a chuck schumer beauty. i want merit based. we are fighting hard for merit based immigration. no more democrat lottery systems. we must get much tougher and smarter. but the governor of new york criticized the president for his tweets and comments. new york's governor says the president's comments are not helpful.

nocera stemming from a 2016 incident. through police paperwork nbc10 found out after an 18-year-old african-american suspect was handcuffed and no longer the man's head into a metal doorjamb and struck him in the back of the neck. >> former chief nocera chose to assault that person for no reason other than what he was driven by, at least in part, by his racial hatred. >> reporter: the federal investigation claims to have found a urn pra braur pattern o. officers at bordentown township recorded nocera making racist comments. in one case documents say he ordered officers to bring police dogs to certain high school basketball games to intimidate african-american fans. >> this was a crime identified by the bordentown township police department, by officers in the police department who saw what was going on, knew it was wrong, had enough, and called

the fbi. >> reporter: nocera will be released on bail and could face up to 20 years in prison if he is found guilty. reporting in camden, stephen fisher, nbc10 news. tonight the allentown mayor is asking a judge to dismiss all the charges he faces. mayor was charged with conspiracy, fraud and bribery. he has pleaded not guilty and is running for re-election on tuesday. his trial is set to begin in january. police in allentown want to know if a deadly shooting is linked to a case of road rage. witnesses tell nbc10 two men were arguing near south ninth and wyoming streets around noon today. one went into a car and pulled out a shotgun and killed the other one. a witness who asked us not to show his identity told nbc10's lauren mayk what he saw. >> he looked to see if he had damage on his car, then he come around, put his hands up in the air.

street in frank ford monday. when an 18-year-old answered he said he was from verizon. the girl said her mom wasn't home. that's when the man walked inside, exposed himself and began assaulting the victim. she was able to get away and grab a weapon. the suspect took off. joot driver of this pickup was seriously hurt when it crashed into part of atlantic city's boardwalk last night. witnesses saw the truck speeding down martin luther king boulevard around 9:00. the moment of impact caught on surveillance video, sending debris flying into the air. the truck flipped onto its side after taking down a light pole, a fire hydrant and side-swiping a parked car. one man says the pickup came a few inches from hitting him. >> i was, like, panicked. it was definitely a wild scene. especially after the new york scene. police are trying to figure out what led to the crash but say right now there is no indication it was intentional. the driver, a 55-year-old man

able to do this without bringing police, men and women into a dangerous area. >> reporter: bensalem doesn't have a chopper. it can call in aid from the state or philadelphia police. in the drone's case -- >> instead of chasing after them, walking in the woods for hours. they deploy the drone. what would have taken hours with numerous officers off the street took us literally minutes. >> we used it a couple weeks ago, a large meth house. four buildings. good surveillance i. it has found missing adults and children. it found a fugitive when this man ran from police into a marshy area. the drone could see images of police getting closer to the torg target. >> officers are not going through the woods late at night looking for a felon. >> reporter: when it comes to cost. the money to pay for it came

from drug seizures. in bensalem. deanna durante, nbc10 news. we have breaking news in the past five minutes the new york terror suspect entered a courtroom to face terrorism charges. he entered in a wheelchair. he was handcuffed and his feet were shackled. he is charged with providing material support to the islamic state terrorist group. he is accused of killing eight people yesterday with the rented truck. much more on the investigation coming up at 6:30 on "nbc nightly news." now, your nbc10 first alert weather. >> cloudy skies for much of the day. it's still cloudy. 60 degrees in philadelphia. it will be a lot warmer than that tomorrow. only in the 40s in the lehigh valley. it will be a lot warmer than that tomorrow too. why? this is a warm front cutting right through the area. warm air to the south, cold air to the north. never even got to 50 in allentown and reading. as the front moves through the

north, it's bringing the warm air with it. and it's also going to take this rain and send it up to new york state. a couple of sprinkles to the south. but this area of rain is not moving in our direction. so i don't think we're going to be dealing with any of that. we are going to be having a much warmer night. temperatures in the 50s. first thing in the morning, we barely got into the 50s a couple of days ago. and by afternoon, it's into the 70s. even allentown and reading may get to 70 or above tomorrow. didn't get out of the 40s today. what a jump that is. you don't see any rain. even until friday morning. friday morning's temperatures. in the 60s. in the morning! then it goes into the mid 70s in the afternoon. could be a couple of showers friday night, as a weak front comes through, at least rain-wise it's weak, but it will cool us off quite a bit for the weekend. tomorrow, chestnut hill 72.
