eight people killed in the attack. >> funniest thing. how much he doesn't ride a bike in that line. >> reporter: other victims a mom from belgium and five friends from argentina. this video shows the riding on the bike path where the carnage took place. court documents show he drove from the home depot. to the george washington bridge around 3:00 yesterday. 20 minutes later, he made his way down the west side highway. where he plowed entood people on the bike path. police say he planned to continue to the brooklyn bridge. he ended up ramming into a school bus with disabled children on board. nypd officer shot him when the suspect left the rental truck. >> i understand the importance of yesterday's events and the role we played. i'm grateful for the recognize we received. >> he told investigators he chose halloween because he knew

at a woman was hurt. in a shooting inside this walmart. it happened in the town of thorn ton. a suburb of denver. shoppers heard gunshots coming from inside the store. investigators haven't released detail ts about the circumstances of the shooting. but stha is not an active shooter situation. police arrest a man for a deadly shooting which maybe linked to road rage. witnesses say two men were arguing near south ninth. and wyoming street around noon. one of the men went into a car, pulled out a shotgun and killed the other. one witness described what he saw to nbc10. >> he looked to see if he had damage and come around and put his hand in the air. and said some words. and the other man went and got a shotgun and one shot. right in the street. >> 36 year-old thomas is charged with criminal homicide. police aren't releasing the victims name. a philadelphia teen fights back against an attacker.

the man in this video knocked on the 18 year-olds door. monday. he said he was from verizon. the victim says he walked inside, exposed himself and began assaulting her. she got away and grabbed a weapon. the suspect took off but not before saying he would be back when her mother was home. new at 11. a delaware county nursing home under the mike scope. >> the facility was on lock down after investigators from the attorney general office showed up. nbc10 spoke with the man who whose mother lives inside the st. francis nursing home. what's latest? >> a few investigators are still on scene. about 30 minutes ago we saw some of them carrying out boxes. they have been out here for more than 12 hours. right now we're told they're focussed on the conditions inside and medical records. >> somebody says the place is on

lock down. there's police activity. i'll find out what's going on. >> reporter: nick came rushing to the center for rehab and healthcare. he was informed the facility was on lock down and investigators from the state attorney general office were on scene. he tells nbc10 once he got here he was told to fill out a form. describing the treatment of his 91 year-old mother. >> she's been here three years. and i have been complaining for three years. >> officers were stationed out front all day and night. he claims they were doing a health inspection and going through medical records. the center is in jeopardy of losing its license because of bad conditions inside. we are told the center is making corrections. >> they were shorthanded. >> reporter: nbc10 is learning about voter fraud allegations stemming from last year surrounding the center. it involves several allegations and are currently under are view

dos of police officers are killed with their own weapon. >> the technology to curb the killing exists. but as investigative reporter shows us a law in new jersey is stopping it from hitting the market. >> i know that night how close i came to not being here. >> reporter: police captain is driving us to the scene of traffic stop he'll never forget. >> law enforcement officers every year assaulted with their own weapon. >> reporter: he was nearly one of them. >> we were talking and he just that quick dropped to his knees and tried to get my gun. >> reporter: he's one of the officers who won that struggle. dozens don't. donald and his colleagues at the new jersey institute of technology spent 12 years building a gun that can only be fired by its owner. government funded and highly motivated. >> we have seen kids shoot themselves. >> reporter: to stop the deaths. the team developed this smart gun. >> it worked using chi namic grip recognition.

the gun would sense and detect the pressure and the pace at which you pull the trigger. something that's completely unique to every individual person. the gun would only fire if you were authorized to use it. >> reporter: this smart gun never made it to the market. in fact no american made smart gun has. the reason. a new jersey law that says once it's sold anywhere in the u.s., new jersey gun dealers can't sell traditional guns. >> it created all the necessary conditions. to increase the polarization. opposed to -- >> reporter: few people felt it more than maryland gun dealer. in 2014, he nearly became the first gun dealer in the country to sell the smart gun. >> the gun world is a religion. you have serious adherence to the face. people who will do anything to protect the. >> reporter: he says second amendment advocates attacked him. worrying the second he sold a smart gun the clock on gun control in new jersey would

start ticking. >> when they view you as you did something, it's on. this thing is part of that. this technology is part of that. >> reporter: in 2014 that perception kept him locked in his shop over night. worried someone would set it on fire or attack him. he recorded this facebook video. explaining why he had interest  many the smart gun. >> i thought we could get antigun people and people into guns. that was my intention. >> reporter: because of his experience. he'll never sell a smart gun. so far no one in the u.s. has. >> people blame the law. and i'm willing to accept the responsibility. because it was my bill. >> reporter: new jersey state senator wrote the bill in 202. she was trying to spurs
