h. on november 7th, make a change. dump sweeney. breaking news out of washington d.c. this morning. the white house is on lockdown and one person is in custody. a live look right now at the white house. the secret service has been tweeting about this for about an hour and a half. the tweets only say there was suspicious activity. the north fence along pennsylvania avenue is closed. the president is not there. he left for a trip to asia earlier this morning. we'll bring you any developments as they happen. a frantic rescue after fire tears through a home near temple university as randy reports first responders rushed to save people and pets from the flames. >> as rescue crews raced to the

burning apartment near temple's campus people inside woke up to sirens and smoke and ran outside as fast as they could. >> i looked back and i was like man, it's like smoke coming out, like a full blaze just pouring tout window withes. >> up on the third floor ran downstairs and watched as a group of philadelphia police officers ran up. >> he went in. >> six officers among the first on scene were searching for an elderly woman and an eight-year-old girl. >> i try today make entry. >> they rescued six people in total. >> we were able to get off the roof and back on ground level. >> a handful of cats and other pets were also saved. nobody was killed thanks to the quick work by first responders running directly into danger.

nbc 10 news. developing now in chester county, a break in the chase. police say they have found the truck that hit a mother, her teenaged daughter and their dog. the truck hit the victims on october 20th. the 16-year-old is now in rehab recovering from broken bones. police have identified a person of interest in the case. sky force 10 above chester pike after a person was hit by a car just before 7:00 this morning. we are working to confirm if a child was involved. right now we don't know the extent of any injuries. stay with nbc 10 for updates. this morning city inspectors are checking out a vacant home. no injuries reported. the house on west fisher avenue gave way just after 10:00 last night. they are looking for any

problems with neighboring homes. a man and woman found shot in a car. police say it appears to be a murder-suicide. nbc 10 in the city's kensington neighborhood where police say they found a gun in the man's hand. police need your help to track down a man who tried to get a ten-year-old girl into his car as she walked home from school. it happened along glenn rose yesterday afternoon. police say the man pulled up beside the girl and told her to get in the car. she ran off. investigators are asking neighbors are surveillance cameras to look at their footage to see if they caught video of that driver. a live look at the jersey shore and cape may.

will the warm weather last through the weekend? glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with the answer, glenn. >> yeah. the simple answer is no. we have got a warm day today. sunday is going to be pretty mild. saturday, no. we have cloudy skies looking at the ben franklin bridge here. these clouds are not thick. this is in wilmington, delaware right now. it is not effecting the temperature too much. it is 71 in dover. it is 72 in millville. the thicker clouds are back in central pennsylvania. there's nothing on the radar close by. even in central pennsylvania with a cold front there isn't much. our chances of rain later today

is pretty slim. it's not zero but it's slim. here we take a look at the hour by hour. by 4:00 maybe one or two light showers moving through. that's it with the front. the colder air comes in behind it, sets us up for a much colder day tomorrow. so through the afternoon temperatures into the 70s in much of the area. clouds preventing it from getting even warmer. i don't think we'll be setting any records today. this evening it's not too cold. by tomorrow morning it will start to be cooling off quite a bit. more on the changes coming with the temperatures and when to expect showers this weekend coming up. in decision 2017 political candidates are heading into their last weekend of campaigning before election day. the race we'll be watching the closest is the battle to become the next governor.

were hurt after a shooting at a starbucks in chicago. police say a masked gunman opened fire last night and then took off running. police think the shooting started as a result of a drug deal gone bad. the other two victims recovering in the hospital. police believe all three victims knew each other. happening today the suspect in a deadly shooting at a walmart near denver is expected in court. police arrested the alleged gunman today. he is accused of firing a handgun at random wednesday night. a woman died later at the hospital. it's an unseasonably mild day. a lot more clouds around today. 64 degrees despite the clouds and it's in the 60s just about everywhere else. it started off pretty mild and that's why we are able to get as

warm as we have so far. we have temperatures in the 60s just about everywhere. as we take a look at some of our suburbs just about all of those places should be getting into the 70s today. this is ahead of the cold front. we have a warm breeze and behind it the north winds. only 41 right now. 31 in minneapolis. some of this cool air is headed our way for at least saturday. it's a one day kind of cool down. there is a lot more back in central pennsylvania. not a lot of rain but a lot of

clouds. later today we do expect it to be pretty cloudy. not much in the way of shower threat. temperatures getting into the 70s. some isolated generally light showers late this afternoon. the clouds increase later in the day and then here come showers for saturday night and some models bring it in before midnight and some wait until after midnight. sunday morning would be another high chance for showers and then as we go into the afternoon the shower threat decreases as most of the rain heads up.

look at sunday night. it is still in the 60s. tomorrow not going to be in the 60s in some parts of the areas it will be in the 50s for highs. reading 58. easton only 66 degrees for the high temperature. look at the lows too. robinsville starting off the day at 40 degrees. avalon up to 59. it is a lot colder than today. sunday we start warming up again despite the clouds. most likely the showers happening in the morning. so there's just a chance of light showers for the eagles game. it looks nothing like what we saw this past sunday. no major system coming in. so saturday is chilly. again, a high of only 59. even below average temperatures,

this just in, the white house lockdown has been lifted. you're looking at a live picture of the white house right now. the secret service tweeted there was suspicious activity along the north fence and that a suspect is in custody. the president is not there. he left far trip to asia earlier this morning. the judge expected to hand down the sentence at any moment now. he pleaded guilty by walking off a base in afghanistan? 2009. he was quickly captured and held prisoner for five years. bergdahl could get life behind bars. after that asian trip it comes as tensions are increasing with north korea over the nuclear missile program. matt bradley has a preview from

the london bureau. >> reporter: depending how you see it you could see it as a good moment to finally separate himself from the continuous scandals in washington or it could be a very distracting moment for the president to wade into one of the world's most complex regions. of course the most important topic by far is going to be north korea at every step along the way asian leaders will be waiting for the president to offer some kind of clarity, some indication of u.s. policy towards the north koreans. many will be watching at whether he will say or tweet something to provoke kim jong un even further. that is probably why the president will not be visiting this demilitarized zone between north and south korea. most presidents have done that. it doesn't look like the senior staff will be really trying to reign him in.

seeing right now. one of the reasons you can see with that flag. a southerly wind coming in. that is warming everybody up including up in the lehigh valley. clouds are not all that thick. we do have thicker clouds back to the west. we started off on the mild side this morning and a low of 56 in philadelphia and 51 in allentown. that is pretty high for this time of the year. so we are already up to 62 in allentown and 67 in philadelphia and 70s in south jersey and delaware. again, despite the clouds there is that first batch of clouds coming through and there is the main batch now getting into burkes county. the clouds are thick but there isn't much rain. this is the cold front that will be coming through tonight and leading to much colder weather tomorrow. there is that front with a few showers around and as we go through the afternoon not very

impressive for a cold front, just some isolated showers by later today then we start to clear out tonight, get colder and then tomorrow the temperatures don't really jump up very much. you go through the afternoon and into the night. it is warm and even this evening it is on the mild side. but by tomorrow morning you'll feel it. we'll see how much it is going to cool down, warm up sunday and monday and then go back down later next week. isis is calling the suspect in the deadly truck attack in manhattan one of its soldiers. police say he drove his speeding rental truck onto a bike path on tuesday killing eight people and injuring 12 others. isis claimed responsibility for the deadly rampage but so far the terror group offered no evidence to support that claim. police shot him. he is under arrest facing

federal terrorism charges. you're looking right now at the eight people who lost their lives on that bike path on tuesday. they are now inspiring a growing memorial. you can see the memorial marking the area as they walked or cycled. people are leaving balloons, kanld ls, handwritten notes to pay hair respectheir respects. some marchers pushed bicycles in a show of remembrance. security ahead of the marathon. extra security at more than 50 intersections across the city. kevin spacey faces allegations of sexual misconduct. eight employees of house of cards told them that spacey's made it a toxic environment. one said he was sexually assaulted. netflix anoubsed it shut down production of house of cards indefinitely. netflix had already decided to end the show prior to the allegations against spacey. daylight savings time comes to an end this weekend. you may be excited about getting in that extra hour or sleep on sunday morning however it can be difficult to adjust some times. experts say most people get less sleep during the change.

we are headed into the 70s. most of the rest of the area is in the 60s now heading into the 70s. some places are already in the 70s as we take a look at delaware. the farther south we go the warmer it is. it is only 62 in greenville. that's about the coldest part. it is 70 in middle town and check out this other part of delaware. everybody is in the 70s. it is 70 in allendale and milton. that is warm for this time of the year. we have a southwest wind making things warm. it is not a real strong wind. it will keep the temperature up today and keep it up into the evening. but there is a cold front coming through. that is going to change things. we have clouds in part of the area now and thicker clouds back to the west.

really not much in the way of rain. just a couple of sprinkles with that front right now. as we go hour by hour there could be a couple of light showers later this afternoon. look what happens. that cold front pushes down, takes the clouds and the shower threat with it. then we are clear for the rest of the night. we start off the day tomorrow with sunshine but the clouds start to increase especially in the afternoon. and then we get some showers in the area. but that may come later saturday night into sunday morning. that's our greatest threat for showers this weekend. you can see even on sunday morning we are not talking about heavy showers but a lot of clouds around on sunday. we have warmer weather. we can't rule out the chance of a generally light shower but that's about it. then we start to warm up. monday gets back into the 70s. as we go through tomorrow look at this. we are getting into the 70s

today. mid-70s at least. tomorrow we may not get out of the 50s with an east wind. look at the pa suburbs. mid-50s in the lehigh valley, delaware, jersey, jersey shore. hardly anybody gets to 60 degrees. now, on sunday it is a little bit milder after more of that south to southeast wind. not much of a factor for the eagles game. we have cloudy skies, mild temperatures for this time of the year and just a chance of a light shower. we are not talking about the threats of any kind of heavy rain. so saturday is the colder day of the weekend. no doubt about that. high temperatures struggling to get to 60. sunday is warmer but it's pretty cloudy and we also have a chance of showers especially in the morning. and then things change some more. there is the colder day

saturday. we turn the clocks back saturday night and get an extra hour's sleep. it warms up sunday into monday. monday back in the 70s but with showers and thunderstorms and a pretty strong frochbnt. look at the rest of the week. we are in the 50s at best. on wednesday along with the rain high temperature only near 50 degrees. next year will mark 50 years since the assassination of robert kennedy. a new book delves into the life and legacy of john f. kennedy's younger brother. it is called bobby kennedy, a raging spirit. chris matthews is the author of the book. chris is here with us this morning. >> i love that you're coming back here. so you have written about j.f.k. talk about what you found so fascinating about his brother.

>> his brother was really the boss -- not the boss but bobby was the brains. he pushed civil rights really hard. when there was a hot issue that really mattered he was really the smart guy. i find it fascinating. i always wondered growing up how could he be such a good guy on civil rights and things like that. there is a picture on the back of the book that shows a white poor family. you can tell by their clothes they are really hard up saluting his train as it goes by. there are a lot of pictures like that. like 20,000 in philadelphia and this is what both gave to him.
