aimed right at his head. the south jersey officer is back home and resting. good evening, i'm denise nakano. officer patrick o'haan lan left a few days after getting shot. andrea thomas has the story. >> reporter: breathing a sigh of relief tonight. officer is on the mend. he was shot in the leg but expected to make a full recovery. dozens of police saluted as officer o'hanlan wheeled out of the hospital. chose to wear his joel jersey, as the police escort waited to take him home. >> getting the call is what all police chiefs dread. this turned out to be as fortunate as it could be. >> 10:00 wednesday night, officer o'hanlan shot at point-blank range during what police say was a struggle with

19-year-old delron nahan. the rookie officer wrestled the gun away and able to hold the suspect until back-up arrived. >> extremely fortunate that the gun jammed and suspect was not able to finish him off like he tried to do. >> reporter: since wednesday, there's been an outpouring of support for the injured officer. this morning, camden county police tweeted including norcross visiting the officer. officers by o'hanlan's side. it was decorated with balloons. >> a sophomore in high school, a junior. you start to have that, what are you going to do with your life? he came to me with a plan. military police. i said, oh, okay. he did it. >> reporter: while there's a long road ahead, o'hanlon said his son will not be deterred. >> coming home with us and he'll get well and he'll be back.

>> reporter: officer o'hanlon has only been with the department for a year. chief thompson applauded how he handled the situation, especially since he did not fire one shot. reporting from camden, andraya kline thompson, nbc10 news. >> he's no stranger to police. delron has been arrested ten times for various offenses in the past year. he's now charged with attempted murder. breaking news, senator rand paul was attacked in his home in kentucky a few hours ago. now, police in bowling green said he was blind sighted and suffered a minor injury. police arrested this man, rene boucher charged with assault. three days until the battle for new jersey and the governor's race. governor kim guadagno and phil murphy. one of the hot buttons is the

garden state's high property taxes. in fact, new jersey ranks number one when it comes to average property tax and more than $8,000 a year. nbc10's drew smith tracked down both candidates in different parts of the state today. >> reporter: it's almost time for new jersey to pick the next governor. out with voters this weekend making the final pitch. republican kim guadagno brought her bus to this county hearing on two big issues. >> sanctuary state. that's a no no. raising taxes? >> reporter: former governor christy whitman said don't listen to the polls that show guadagno trailing by double digits. she said she has momentum. >> not only winnable but we will because we're right on the issues and the property tax issue. people can't afford higher taxes. >> reporter: democratic candidate phil much morphy got s from the union.

now your nbc10 first alert weather. >> i'm first alert meteorologist steve sosna. hopefully you enjoy this beautiful day. fall classic in the upper 50s but wheels in motion for some change and that's coming in here during the overnight hours. we'll see a pocket of shower come in here. it looks like after 10:00 tonight and throw about 6:00 tomorrow morning. that's when the stepiest showad showers fall. and mostly humid to patchy drizzle. i'll have that forecast in a second and big temperature changes coming ahead for the week. we look at 70s down to 40s and even 30s in the morning hours. but for the wentz weather tomorrow, for the entire birds weather, overcast and gray sky here but playing conditions should be pretty good.

a spot shower here or patchy fog in the morning hour but not terrible or as rainy as what we saw here last sunday. look at doppler radar. you could see showers to our neighbors to the south and west. raining in baltimore and washington right now. still dry in philadelphia and so we'll buy another hour or two and then looks like the showers will develop overnight tonight. we have a bigger change in our weather after monday when we see the big temperature drop. timing it out with the showers, we have them in here by 11:00. we tune in with showers in chester county through wilmington and then breaks up into patchy drizzle. certainly some good news here by the time we get to game time at 1:00. light green and the operative word is light. good forecast for the eagles game. so let's look at that ten-day forecast where we have some murky weather tomorrow that's 66 but good weather for the game. 73 on monday with a shower or thunderstorm later in the day, but it's after that. that's when we see that big fall change here. check that out. temperatures in the upper 40s by

sports philadelphia. penn state lost a big opportunity today. nittany lions would be back in the playoff picture. they played into the second quarter and then a 3 hour quarter. trey mcsorly and nice catch here with the hands there. 70 yards to the touchdown. now, we are late in the fourth. game tied at 24. michigan state is third and 4. 37 yard line. nittany lions get the ball back but marcus allen called for roughing the passer. he went low. 15 yards to help set up this. matt, a 34 yard field goal for the win. oh, penn state loses again. 27-24. michigan state slides into the big 10 conversation now. james franklin, one of the players to not leave the field without shaking hands. none of the eagles looks to go
