another heroes welcome for those helping puerto rico recover from devastation. >> announcer: nbc 10 breaking news. and that breaking news, one man is under aunder arrest for allegedly killing his own brother. i'm denise nakano. in the past 15 minutes we've learned the suspect will be charged with first and third degree murder. this all unfolded around 12:30 this afternoon in elkins park. police found the body in the basement and say there were clear signs of a homicide. nbc 10's andrea cline thomas is at the scene, and we're getting more and more information. what can you tell us? >> reporter: just minutes ago, denise, we got even more information. that victim has been identified as harry bachmann. he was found dead in the basement of his home. now, when he didn't meet a

family member last night police were called do a wellness check. that's when the 64-year-old's body was found. detectives were called to this home on the 400 block of north sterling road around 4:30 this afternoon. now, according to the district attorney there was an obvious struggle and harry bachmann died of what appeared to be blunt force trauma. officers say jameisson also stole his brother's car. detectives went door-to-door searching for information. >> i just asked him what happened. he said there was a homicide. and i said how so? and he said it was domestic. they didn't know a whole lot, did i hear anything. >> reporter: now, police located the victim's car at a hotel in upper moorland township and made an arrest.

now, this road just opened up, but as you see the house is still taped off. that's the latest here in elkins park. andrea cline thomas, nbc 10 news merchandise. a police officer shot in the line of duty is home tonight after being released from the hospital earlier today. dozens of officers saluted as he was wheeled out of the had hospital. he was able to stand up and get into the car even after being shot in the leg. his father telling us outside the hospital today that his son will recover from this. >> he's coming hom with us, and he'll get well and he'll be back. police say ohanlen was shot in the leg wednesday night after struggling with a suspect. the chief said the suspect tried to shoot the oofficer in the leg but the gun jammed now, that suspect has been charged with attempted murder. he's no stranger to police. has been been arrested ten times in the past year.

turning now to our first alert weather. right now we are tracking showers in parts of our area. nbc 10 meteorologist steve sosna joins us now. >> it's chilly, and that rain is coming down here. 54 in dover. as you look outside, a lot of people out there. it is a wet saturday night. if you are stepping outside, make sure you have an umbrella here for the next couple of hour. we have that tape fall for much of the delaware valley. you'll be able to see some of that rain running into burks county into lancaster county. for the next several hours we'll see these on and off showers. but i do think we'll be able to see a break in the rain. and that will come towards

morning. and then as we step into your sunday, we have your big eagles came forecast. i'll walk you through quarter by quarter. a long line of family and friends filed into the church to remember the 16-year-old. his cousin described him as full of joy. >> he was like the glue that kept everything together. when you were sad, you would make you smile. he lit up the room when he walked in that room. he didn't even have to say a word, and the joy off him. >> both 16-year-olds took bullets to the chest. now, three days after the shooting 16-year-old brandon olivieri turned himself into police. he is charged with murder.

he is being held in jail without bail and is expected to be in court later this month. two candidates planning on running for new jersey governor were out making final pitches to voters today. former governor cresty wittman joined the candidate telling people not it to listen to the polls which showed guadagno trailing by double digits. told the crowd not to listen to attacks from the other side. >> they're making stuff up. they're changing the subject. they're throwing rocks. >> we will win because we're right on the issues. >> now, one of those hot button issues is that race is the garden state high property taxes. in fact, new jersey ranks number one when it comes to average property tax at more than $8,000 a year.

the polls open on tuesday. a man is facing charges after police say he attacked senator rand paul inside paul's kentucky home. police say the republican senator was blind-sided and suffered a minor injury yesterday afternoon. police arrested this man. he's charged with assault. a jury convicted a 25-year-old man from philadelphia of manslaughter in the hit-and-run death of a 8-year-old girl. he hit and killed jayona powell as she walked home with his siblings from school last year. he testified he was going around a car and it stopped in the road and did not see the children. after it happened woodland said he simply panicked and left. well, four members of the philadelphia sheriff's office returned from puerto rico tonight to screams of joy.

friends and family cheered and hugged the officers as they arrived at the airport tonight. they've been in puerto rico since october 15th, helping with relief efforts after hurricane maria devastated the island. the officers say while they're happy to be back with their families they're sad they have to leave with so much left to be done. >> when we arrived with water, it's like we were bringing gold. and we did that every day for 21 days. next on nbc 10, surprise, surprise. dozens of soon to be moms in our area get an unexpected shower of gifts. lucky to be alive. a driver gets a shock on the road after this goes right through the windshield. hey, i'm john clark. coming up we're going to hear from carson wentz on what he want to improve on tomorrow night against the broncos.

a minnesota driver a lucky to palive after a giant chunk of metal nearly crashed through her windshield. take a look at these photos. the metal stopped just short of the tooerl that flew off a truck. the driver walked away with a few small cuts and police are stick looking for that truck. heads up if you're heading down to the eagles game

tonight president trump is in japan. it is the first stop on his 12 day five country trip. the president touched down in toque yea couple of hours ago. he was greeted by huge crowds before speaking in front of american troops. he told reporters he's expecting to meet with russian president vladimir putin during his trip overseas are, and he wants putin's help with north korea. the march of dimes helped throw a surprise baby shower for military moms to be today. bags were handed out to 55 expecting mothers at the station. nbc 10's tracy davidson served as mistress of ceremony. with paintbrushes in their hands dozens of friends, family and neighbors got together today at the philadelphia fire academy to create a mural for lieutenant daniel sweeney. he died back in 2012 when a wall

collapsed during a warehouse fire in kensington. he was 25 years old. well, heads up if you're planning to use the ben franklin bridge tomorrow. it'll be closed from 7:45 to 9:30 tomorrow morning. the charity 10k run and two mile bridge walk helps a non-profit special education school in delmar. >> in south philadelphia tonight people dedicated their saturday night to awareinous. tonight's event had a fashion show. peat kaine also spoke about his personal experience with cancer. and take a look at all of these lanterns. they each represent a child who survived and lost a fight with cancer. before the lanterns were lit there was a 5k run.

tonight's event raised more than $40,000. well, a pennsylvania spca has been protecting animals across the straight for 150 years. and tonight at the navy yard the organization hosted a fund-raiser called the bark and wine gala. former pennsylvania governor and -- from the phillies were recognized for their contribution. and live from new york it is "saturday night live." here's a look as they get ready for tonight's show with musical guest miley cyrus. and it's a perfect night to sit on the couch and watch "snl" here as its a raby, damp and chilly evening. this as it was a beautiful day today. temperatures up around 60

degrees. but the changes have arrived. and they'll continue through the overnight hours. we'll be looking at these showers overnight through 6:00 a.m. and then we'll call it quits at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow. by murky, there's a lot of humidity in the air. so you certainly will feel that. but there isn't a lot of rainfall. so that's good news for game conditions and for the fans out there as well. as we go through the week we'll be looking at big temperature changes. you see the south philadelphia camera, looking at the link right now. you see the rain droplets on here, but i do think by the time you get up to crystal tomorrow morning you'll see the rain droplets zaubl. wentz out on the field here tomorrow, and the conditions not looking terrible. i think it's mainly overcast here for the game.

maybe some patches of drizzle. maybe you want to have a light rain poncho on, otherwise i don't think we'll see much in the way of rain full. you'll see green on temp map. that means temperatures are in the lower 50s right now. and tonight we have that blanket of clouds keeping it nice and mild for the overnight. our doppler radar network shows you pockets of rain through areas of central new jersey right now. and none of this rene is really torrential, but it's just enough you'll need the windshield wipers here through the overnight hours. it's all part of a system moving through here that is trying to give us some warmer weather. and that is part of a warm front. get ready. temperatures going to go back up here by tomorrow afternoon. waking up tomorrow there will be some fog out there. give yourself some extra time. but 1:00wreck kick off time,
