go to the app for more on that. now to more breaking news. a pennsylvania state trooper shot after a traffic stop turned into a violent fight and shootout. the corporal is in critical condition and fighting for his life inside this hospital this evening. >> the shooting happened in plainfield township near 191 this morning. the driver was originally pulled over for speeding, but police realized he was under the influence and when they tried to arrest them, they said he violently resisted. >> the troopers were in a fight on the side of the road with vehicles speeding by them and it got very violent. >> the suspect started shooting at officers and they fired back. then he managed to drive away and get himself to easton hospital. the car is riddled with bullet holes. >> we're bringing you live coverage tonight. we are learning how the traffic stop escalated into a shooting.

let's begin with steven fisher, who is live where the trooper is being treated tonight. >> reporter: it's been an emotional day here at st. luks hospital. this is where the trooper was flown after being shot. this is also where family, friends and fellow officers have gathered for support. inside st. luke's tonight, a corporal continues to fight. >> right now our guy is up there fighting for his life. >> reporter: police have yet to the troop er shot three times along route 33 earlier today in north hampton county. he was critically injured and flown here where he underwent surgery. >> helicopters circling around. a lot of state troopers activity. >> from the scene to the hospital, state police had aen investigation on their hands

heading home right now. a live look at the ben franklin bridge. let's bring in meteorologist tammie souza. a cold and a nasty night out there. >> it's going to be blustery and cold and raw. everybody has rain except some of the areas towards the southern poconos is where we're seeing some of the snow falling. the rest of us getting a cold, raw rain. a little bit of a pelting snow through the lehigh valley. but now switched back over to rain. from philadelphia to morristown to springfield, chester, we're looking right now at sort of a steadier rain. but all of this is moving eastward. trenton in the middle of a steady rain. you're right on the edge of a steady rain moving through. as we head out to the lehigh

valley, the purple shades denote the snow m koling down. you can see this pink, that's a line we're seeing a mix of rain and snow. it's some of the pelting rain drops coming down. just a little bit more well formed. the whole system is moving off to the east. this is a cold air that is being drawn into. the area. and we have a cold front drive ing it behind it. we're going to see the holdest air of the season so far. let me walk you through this. this is going to require a big coat, winter shoes, hats, glove the whole thing by the end of the week. 40 in some parts, but most in the 30s. 49d in atlantic city. we'll deal with clouds. maybe a sprinkle or shower. 32 in mount pocono.

33 in mount holly. 34 in philadelphia. that's thursday morning. thursday afternoon we rebound on some southerly winds to 55 degrees. pretty nice. a system that's passing by to our south. and then friday morning here it comes. the 20s rush in. that's when we can truly see the first freeze in philadelphia. 16 in mount pocono. 27 in pottstown. and 36 out along the jersey shore. if you're right on the water. you'll be warmer because the water temperature is warmer. by noon we're still likely not above freezing on friday here if philadelphia. that's why you need the big jacket. you can get your neighborhood weather and e see how cold it is. saturday will be perhaps the raw of the day.
