it crashed off the coast of florida. a memorial is growing outside citizens bank park as phillies fans remember the all-star's legacy. rosemary connors shows us the tribute and the latest on the investigation tonight. >> reporter: we are very interested in what additional witnesses may have to tell us. the ntsb will likely look at this cellphone video showing roy halladay flying high and low moments before the crash in the gulf of mexico off the coast of st. petersburg, florida. >> a lot of witnesses have said that the plane was maneuvering at low altitudes. >> reporter: this afternoon investigators waded into four feet of water to recover all of the wreckage from the icon a5 plane. halladay owned the first 2018 model manufactured by the company. the evidence includes two data recorders, but the plane was not equipped with a voice recorder. the aftermath shows the extent of the crash impact. the ntsb does not yet know how the beloved former phillies pitcher died but expects to have

a preliminary report in seven to ten days. in the meantime investigators are trying to confirm bwhat they've learned so far. >> no mayday call was made. often it takes days for the information to come out and then we find out differently. it's all preliminary. it can change and we are working it out. >> reporter: rosemary connors, nbc10 news. on the nbc10 app you can read how the sports world is remembering roy halladay, plus watch the full video showing the moments before his plane crashed. right now at 6:00, a pennsylvania state trooper shot during a traffic stop saved his own life. corporal seth kelly pulled a tourniquet like this one from his belt and put it on himself after being shot multiple times. >> corporal kelly is still in the hospital tonight in critical condition. the 13-year veteran of the force will have another surgery either tonight or tomorrow. >> the suspect, daniel clary,

faces attempted murder charges. he was arraigned in his hospital bed today. investigators say he resisted arrest, started to fight with troopers and then began shooting. it happened yesterday morning in plainfield township, northampton county. as cars were driving by. >> nbc10's steven fisher is live at the state police in bethlehem tonight. corporal kelly saved his life with a tool every state trooper has. >> reporter: each patrol officer has one of these tourniquets that i have wrapped around my leg to show you. police say after the trooper was shot he then was able to, with his mindset and strength, to somehow fasten one of these tourniquets around one of his wounds by ultimately went a long way in saving his life. >> first shots fired. >> reporter: 13-year veteran corporal seth kelly and ryan siepal found themselves in a

gunfight yesterday with 22-year-old daniel clary. >> mr. clary runs around the front of his vehicle and reaches into the driver's side window which is down and pulls out a gun. >> reporter: clary was tased by the troopers but freed himself and sprayed a number of bullets towards the troopers. >> there is one trooper shot. >> reporter: corporal kelly was struck several times in the neck, shoulder and leg but continued to fire back. >> he falls over the guy rail. after that he is still firing rounds into mr. clary's vehicle. >> the vehicle took off southbound on route 33. >> reporter: some of the rounds struck clary who drove himself to the hospital. corporal kelly was left along route 33 critically wounded. >> it was a bad scene. he was no in good shape when we were there. >> reporter: police say he never gave up and pound it in himself to apply a tourniquet to one of the wounds before help could arrive. >> he carries a tourniquet on his belt. he was able to have the

wherewithal to pull it off his belt and apply it to one of his wounds. more than likely saving his own life. >> reporter: trooper siple is on administrative leave. corporal kelly remains in critical condition at the hospital. i am told he will undergo another surgery within the next 24 hours. reporting live. steven fisher, nbc10 news. >> a fighter, steven. all right. the suspect today was officially charged with attempted murder. police say daniel clary admitted to shooting at cthe officers. the 22-year-old has had trouble with the law before, pleading guilty to disorderly conduct for a fight in 2014. his neighbors in monroe county say they never expected this. >> it's unsettling to know because it could have happened at any moment. >> clary was shot in the back of the neck and side. he will be in the hospital before he is transferred to

atlantic city 50. the water in the atlantic ocean is warmer than anywhere on land at 63 degrees. at this hour we've dropped to 47 in philadelphia, 42 in reading, 33 in mount pocono, approaching the freezing mark. 47 in millville and mount holly at 45 with wildwood at 46 degrees. we are going to tumble into the 30s tonight. we are only going to recover to the 50s tomorrow. that's a gift from mother nature. it's short lived. then we really crash. 43 friday. 42 saturday and the morning lows will likely be in the 20s. the daytime feels like will be in the 30s. it will be pretty raw the end of the week. we'll talk about this in your neighborhood when i come back. >> 20 decision 2017 now. democrat fiphil murphy was thanking people in hoboken today. he beat kim guadagno by 12 percentage points. murphy is blasting president trump saying his administration

would stand up to the white house. tonight marks one year since president trump was elected. >> he is marking the anniversary overseas as he travels in asia. >> he tweeted this afternoon, quote, congratulations to all of the deplorables and the millions of people who gave us a massive electoral college landslide victory. deplorables in quotation marks, a reference to hillary clinton using the term to refer to some of his supporters during the campaign season last year. a billionaire with ties to atlantic city is being investigated for a move he made while he was serving as an adviser to president trump. prosecutors subpoenaed carl icahn's company wanting to know if he pushed for a federal policy change that would have benefited one of his investments while he was a presidential adviser. icahn owns the tropicana casino in a.c. he sold the shuttered trump taj mahal earlier this year. texas officials have released the names and ages of all of the people shot is and killed during worship services

on sunday. today vice president mike pence is visiting the community to offer condolences and support. plane touched down in texas two hours ago. today we are also learning more about the suspect. four women tell the san antonio express news that devin kelley either sexually assaulted or harassed them. a police officer came face to face with a teen accused of shooting him. the man had his first hearing since being charged with attempted murder. the judge denied bail after considering his past arrests. officer patrick o'hanlon showed up despite being in a wheelchair as he recovers. a shooting in bucks county. two shooters start to unload bullets into a car with the driver and passenger inside. this happens outside apartments in bristol.

the car sped in reverse and dit a dumpster. the driver was shot but will be okay. police are looking for the shooters tonight. new at 6:00. delaware says it is making a dent in the deadly opioid epidemic by giving out fewer opioid prescriptions. today the state announced a 12% drop in the prescriptions in the last six months. that's when new regulations went into effect to limit the number of opioid prescriptions doctors give. the state hopes it will lead to fewer people becoming addicted to the drugs. thousands are signing up to get medical marijuana in pennsylvania. today governor wolf announced 3800 patients and 200 care-givers signed up for the state's patient registry that launched a week ago. the governor says the response shows a vital need for medical marijuana. the state hopes to make the drug available to patients by next year. liberations continue tomorrow in the federal bribery trial of former senator bob menendez. today the jury asked to be ex

real cold coming this weekend. >> real cold. i feel like a broken record. i have been saying it so long. let's embrace it. it's an early taste of winter. i am sure we'll kick it out of here and get back to 60 degrees in nine or ten days. until then we'll deal with highs in the 50s, 40s and maybe highs in the 30s. 47 in philadelphia right now. feels-like 44. breaking out the windchill. winds out of east to 6. a few high, thin clouds. this is where we are going tonight. overnight dropping to 38 in philadelphia. 32 for mount pocono. 38 in wilmington. mount holly 38. warmer along the jersey shore because the atlantic ocean is about 63 degrees. so it's keeping it nice and warm along the shore. 52 in atlantic city. reading you'll hit 37, doylestown, 34 degrees. let's scoot to tomorrow. philadelphia, 57. a few degrees shy of where we should be this time of year. we get up to mount pocono. 42. reading, 47. dover, 57.

and atlantic city, 58. tomorrow, not too bad. winds are a little bit more southerly. then it gets cold. this is going to be your friday morning. 30 in philadelphia. 19 for mount pocono. 30 in wilmington. 27 in doylestown. 34 in atlantic city, a way from the water. that's the first night that we could see freezing across the area. look at this. friday by 2:00 in the afternoon we are struggling to get above freezing across much of the area. we may only make it to the upper 30s. a few low 40s. windchills in the 30s all day. saturday just as cold. saturday mong rning in the 20s. 26 in philadelphia, 27 in millville. you will need the big puffy jacket, throw the extra blanket on the bed and bring your pets in. it's a shock to their system too. clouds to the south, a few showers to the south. watching the cold front as it drifts in through the northern plains and into minnesota.

it's got very cold air behind it. that's the push of cold air that we will receive the end of the week. prior to that we will see northerly winds, maybe we get a weak front tomorrow bringing scattered showers in the afternoon to the lehigh valley, making it through philadelphia in early to mid evening. and off the atlantic coast by about midnight. behind that winds turn to the west and then the north. then here it comes. the cold air comes spilling in and stays with us until we start to maybe warm back into the 50s by sunday. this is your time line. clear air. that means all the warmth is headed out into the atmosphere. for tonight, 38 in philadelphia. 38 in south jersey. 34 in the pennsylvania suburbs. warmest spot will be right on the jersey shore. 47 there. tomorrow we are going to be looking at a mix of sun and clouds. we could see a sprinkle or shower late in the day. it's not a big washout. just a chance of a scattered shower. 56 in philadelphia. 53 in the lehigh valley. 54 for the jersey shore. 55 in delaware. ten-day on 10 finally gets us

his former teammate chase utley was heart broken when he got the news saying "doc" was a once-in-a-lifetime player. >> in spring training, he made me look like a little leaguer out there. he was a man among boys. it's important to reflect upon all the positive things that he not only did for major league baseball but for the phillies and his teammates. he really made his teammates better. >> from day one our players started to depend on him a whole lot. that's kind of who he was. roy halladay was a mentally tough guy. you didn't see that side of hem a whole lot, like in the clubhouse and things like that. in his own way, just who he was, he led by example. he was a tough guy. he wanted to be. >> roy should go into the phillies wall of fame in the next two years and cooperstown. last night the sixers beat the jazz. five straight wins in six
