neighborhood. right now at 11. walking into danger. tonight, the shooting of a state trooper has police looking if new ways to keep traffic stops from turning violent. good evening i'm jacqueline london. >> i'm jim rosenfield chl trooper kelly in critical condition tonight after being shot during a traffic stop yesterday. new at 11. we get a lack at how quickly the stops can go wrong. >> do me a favor. grab a seat in the car. >> reporter: a life or death situation. that michael taylor and louis doing through 40 times a week. they're walking us through traffic stops. these officers are on a tactical narcotic unit. >> what changes when i get out of the car? for you?

fortunately he was there to watch the others inside the car. >> you don't know what the intentions of the person are. are they fighting to get away or kill you. >> reporter: there's no such thing as a routine traffic stop. >> the dash cam video is revealing new details about the violent traffic stop. that left the trooper shot. state police haven't released the video but tell us it shows two troopers had to fight off the suspect for two minutes. right in the midof the rue 33. the troopers tried tazing the suspect. he was able to pull a gun from the car. and shoot trooper kelly. >> he carries a turn kit on his belt. and he was able to have the to pull it off his belt and apply that one of his wounds. more than likely saving his own life. >> trooper kelly is scheduled tor surgery tomorrow morning. now to breaking news. swat officers are searching a

kensington neighborhood for a man possibly armed with a gun. sky force 10 over the scene. police say the person there looking for a ran into a house in the area. we have seen officers going from house to house searching with flashlights. so far they have come up empty. a deadly shooting in allen town right across from city hall. police say a man was shot to death in the parking lot of the tower apartments on hamilton street around 7:00 tonight. the gunman hasn't been caught. >> more tributes pour in. authorities are stepping up the investigation into what caused his deadly plane crash. >> brandon hudson live outside the park where a memorial for the phillies ace continues to grow. >> we saw people almost brought to tears just looking at the memorial. he was a pilot for four years who flew often. authorities want to know why his

philadelphia. scattered showers possible tomorrow evening and rain late on sunday. and into monday. so be prepared for the first freeze. hard freeze of the season. across the area doppler radar. everything looks good. it's quiet. what we're watching for is a storm system that is generally off to the north and the west of us. and we are continuing to monitor that situation. because it's the one that's going to bring us the very cold air. and i will have your ten day on ten coming up. at the end of the newscast. and we'll discuss the best chance of a freeze in your neighborhood. like it or not winter is on the way. the type of weather that we get can change from year to year. so meteorologist glen hurricane schwartz put together the annual winter forecast. >> we have had crippling blizzards. dangerous ice storms. and life threatening cold in the yar. all in the past ten years.

records snowstorms. snowiest winters. feast or famine. with lot of big snows others like a very long spring. what are we going to get this winter? the average snow is 22 and a half inches. not this year. let's check out the first clue. half way across the world. into the tropical pacific. this area blue, below normal ocean temperature. they call it la nina. we average 18 inches of snow. i look at many factors before making my winter forecast. which takes weeks of research. some point to a cold and snow ji winter. others point the other way. let's keep score. the factors for the winter forecast. favors a milder winter. next, october temperatures. six day stretch of 80s last month led the way to the second warmest october on record. a warm october generally leads to warmer winter here. with less snow.
