frances rivera. a shocking report is sending tremors throughout the state of alabama and washington with just a little over 30 days before voters in alabama choose their next senator. after the washington post released an explosive expose, republican candidate roy moore accused of fondling an under aged girl. many of moore's fellow republicans, even some who publicly endorsed him are calling him to step aside if the claim against him is true that he had a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old when he was 32. and now moore is firing back. nbc's ann thompson has the story. >> i believe in the second amendment. >> reporter: roy moore, the combative gop senate candidate and conservative christian, the target of sexual misconduct allegations. the former judge accused of the inappropriate sexual conduct with a 14-year-old girl almost 40 years ago. and dating other teenagers 18 and younger when he was in his 30s. the age of consent in alabama was and is 16.
3:32 am
though moore says the allegations are completely false, his would-be senate colleagues offer little support. >> if that's true, i don't believe there would be anyplace for him in the u.s. senate. >> if these allegations are true, roy moore should step aside for all of the obvious reasons. >> reporter: the most serious claims come from lee corfman in a report from the washington post. when she was 14 she says moore then an assistant district attorney drove her to his house in the woods. she claims he kissed her on the first visit. the second time she says he took off her shirt and pants and removed his clothes. she says he touched her and guided her hand to touch him. i wanted it over with, i wanted out, she tells the post. corfma in, says she asked moore to take her home, and he did. a cautious response from the white house. >> we need to listen to both sides, but at the same time that hypothetical would be disqualifying for anyone in public office. >> reporter: with an 11-point lead in the senate race, moore's

3:37 am
yeah, the senate and house tax bills are a little different and that could cause some problems. one thing is sure, right now republicans know they need to pass tax reform and soon with a almost total victory for democrats last tuesday in the elections. that created that sense of urgency. now let's go through some of the differences in the house and senate tax bill. in the senate tax plan, a reform plan, they double the standard deduction. the senate plan also creates seven tax brackets, not the four in the house version. it also keeps the mortgage deduction for homes up to $1 million. the house version allows deduction only for the first $500,000 of a mortgage. finally, it fully eliminates deductions for state and local taxes, something new york and california lawmakers are already having a problem with. >> 30 years, americans are ready for tax reform again, get growing again like we know this code will do, to get new jobs

and opportunities, and significant tax relief for the middle class. >> reporter: now, the white house says that they would like to have a tax plan on the president's desk by thanksgiving. now, if the house passes their version and if the senate passes their version, it goes to committee to merge the two. thanksgiving would be a very tight deadline. dara, philip? >> edward, thank you so much for that. >> over 600,000 people have signed up for a plan on obamacare's federal exchange during the first four days of open enrollment. it's a strong start for president obama's signature law with the 600,000 sign ups showing a significant jump from the same period during last year's enrollment. that's despite president trump's repeated claims that obamacare is, quote, dead, finished, and imploding. experts caution, however, that the enrollment period is significantly shorter this year giving customers just 45 days to sign up. that's down from the three months that the public had to sign up during obama's presidency. >> and for the latest now on that arctic blast gripping of the nation we turn to meteorologist bonnie snyder.
